Actor Vinayakan's social media post draws criticism
Mr. Vinayakan had criticised filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan the other day for his statement made at the recently held film conclave organised by the State government. He had also dragged singer Yesudas into the controversy using an expletive-laden social media post.
Muhammad Shiyas, Ernakulam District Congress Committee (DCC) president, on Friday (August 8, 2025) termed him a public nuisance and sought government intervention to rein in the actor.
The government shall either provide him with the required medical treatment or initiate legal action for the social menace caused by him. The protection given to the actor, who is known for his unruly and uncivilised behaviour, often under the influence of intoxicants, would send a wrong signal to society, he said.
Mr. Shiyas said people will be forced to handle the actor on the streets if he fails to mend his ways.
Playback singer G. Venugopal joined the issue on the day with a social media post criticising the actor for his below-the-belt criticism of Mr. Yesudas.
Terming Mr. Yesudas as a revolutionary in the field of music, Mr. Venugopal said the legendary singer, who belonged to the Latin Catholic community, created history in the world of music, where Brahmanism once ruled the roost. The singer who devoted his life to music and engaged himself in reinventing and refining the music was showered with abuse under the cover of political correctness. One should treat Mr. Yesudas as a singer and not as a social reformer, referring to some of the controversial statements of the singer, Mr. Venugopal said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vinayakan took to social media once again on Friday with an abusive post on a woman media person.
The actor's social media post following the death of veteran communist leader V.S. Achuthanandan and Congress leader Oommen Chandy had invited criticism.

Let Election Commission itself submit an affidavit, says Ashok Gehlot
Questioning the neutrality of the Election Commission, veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Friday (August 8, 2025) asked the poll body to itself submit an affidavit stating that there were no irregularities in the elections. The Election Commission had demanded an affidavit under oath from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi about his allegation of electoral fraud. Mr. Gehlot said at a press conference in Jaipur that the Election Commission had made an 'absurd demand' despite knowing the fact that Mr. Gandhi was working under an oath to uphold the Constitution which inherently included strengthening the constitutional institutions. 'Instead of making such a ridiculous demand, the EC should have initiated a fair investigation,' he said. The former Rajasthan Chief Minister accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of damaging all democratic institutions, while affirming that the Election Commission, once respected globally for its credibility, was being looked at with suspicion. 'Democracy cannot survive in the country when the EC colludes with the ruling party,' Mr. Gehlot said. Mr. Gehlot said the statements of the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha about electoral fraud in Maharashtra and Karnataka were 'absolutely correct' and in the interest of the nation. Mr. Gandhi's presentation had proved that a dangerous game was being played in the country, he said, adding that threats were being issued to the Congress leader instead of addressing the issue. While the Election Commission was depicting a 'clear bias' against the Opposition leaders after changes in its appointment procedure, the BJP's manipulation of election results through 'rigging and money power' and its acts to undermine institutions for political advantage had posed a major threat to the nation's democracy, Mr. Gehlot said.

To counter Congress' accusations, BJP cites fake voters in Siddaramaiah's Varuna constituency
Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP hit back at Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi Friday, insisting irregularities in electoral rolls were rampant even in assembly segments won by senior Congress functionaries including Varuna, the constituency represented by chief minister Siddaramaiah. Aravind Limbavali, former Mahadevapura MLA, at a press conference, said: "We must thank Rahul Gandhi for raising this issue, as it has given us an opportunity to highlight irregularities involving Congress functionaries in adding fake voters to rolls. It includes Varuna constituency from where Siddaramaiah won in 2023." He shared some documents which he claimed was evidence but could not be independently verified. He went on to say: "They (Congress) are doing this (claiming vote fraud) to prevent the special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar. Our demand is that SIR should not only continue in Bihar but should also be extended to Karnataka. The rule should not be different for Bihar and Karnataka." He also claimed irregularities in other constituencies which Congress won such as Chamarajpet (BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan), Sandur (E Annapoorna), Gandhinagar (Dinesh Gundu Rao), and BTM Layout (Ramalinga Reddy). "Interestingly, no such instances were found in Kanakapura represented by deputy CM DK Shivakumar," he said in response to a question. Limbavali, whose wife Manjula now represents Mahadevapura, dismissed Rahul's claims as baseless, saying: "These are claims by an immature politician. Former CM SM Krishna had once described Rahul's nature as mindful immaturity. The LoP in Lok Sabha has just exhibited his nature while alleging vote theft in Mahadevapura." He also contested Rahul's claim that BJP had led only in Mahadevapura in Bangalore Central Lok Sabha seat. "In fact, we secured leads in four segments — Rajajinagar (39,429), Gandhinagar (23,324), CV Raman Nagar (20,114), and Mahadevapura (1,16,046)," Limbavali said. "The number of voters in Mahadevapura has increased from 2,75,328 in 2008 to 3,51,535. This is rapid growth, but it is natural growth, considering the predominant migrant population. " In Delhi, Union minister Pralhad Joshi accused Rahul of levelling allegations without "logic or basis". "When we lost elections in Maharashtra and they won, then everything was fine there... In 2023, they won in Karnataka, and in 2024, we won, so they are saying electoral rolls are incorrect... Is there any logic?" he asked.
