Kraken Recall Top Prospect From The Firebirds

This is the 20-year-old's first call-up to the NHL, and he earned it by recording 26 goals and 41 points in 55 games, leading the team in both categories. Outside of leading the team, Nyman is tied for third in the AHL in goals and first among rookies in goals.
Following the trade deadline, GM Ron Francis spoke about Nyman's impressive season, hinting that a call-up would be coming soon.

"Jani Nyman's got 26 goals, he's No.1 in the American Hockey League for rookie goal scoring and I think he's fourth for rookie scoring in points as well," said Francis. "I think he's fourth overall in goal scoring in the AHL, and that's really good for a young kid. That's exciting, and at some point here we'll give him a look too before the end of the season."
Listed at 6'4, 220 lbs, Nyman's rookie season has been better than the Kraken organization would have imagined. He took home Rookie of the Month honours in February and was named as Cale Fleury's replacement for the All-Star game.
The second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft had an impressive camp, setting the tone for the season to follow. He played in just one preseason game but showed quite a few signs of a player with confidence.
Francis compared Nyman's shot to Mikko Rantanen's, showing that the organization believes he can be a star in the NHL.

The Kraken are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Montreal Canadiens, and it could be when Nyman makes his NHL debut.

"Now the comparison is kind of distorted because Shawn Kemp was tremendous on the court, but his production went down because of his inability to understand how to handle himself off the court." Then, in 2002, he was suspended for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. Even when he called quits on his playing days in 2005, Shawn was arrested in Washington after police discovered marijuana and cocaine in his possession. Therefore, as Eddie rightly mentioned, Kemp willingly took away the spotlight from his on-court achievements and also tarnished his public image. For years, head coach Billy Donovan has been compelled to play undersized guards and wings at power forward and center. In the past, 6-foot-4 shooting guard Javonte Green and 6-foot-5 swingman Derrick Jones Jr. have notched major time at the four and five, respectively. Last season, the biggest issue was Patrick Williams, whom the Bulls have routinely tried to cast as the club's starting power forward. It's clear that he's more of a small forward, and lacks the aggression on either end of the hardwood to play major minutes at the four. He would represent a major upgrade over Williams and Okoro (one of whom, ideally, the Bulls could include in another deal), as a defense-first forward who can command an offense within the painted area. The 2022 Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 2023-24, Barnes has yet to develop much of a stroke beyond the arc. Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here's a look at Manny Harris, a guard who briefly played for the Lakers. Harris had a solid three seasons at the University of Michigan, where he averaged 17.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2009 as a sophomore. However, he went unselected in the 2010 NBA Draft. After spending his first two pro seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Harris played with BC Azovmash in Ukraine during the 2012-13 season. He signed with the Orlando Magic just prior to the 2013-14 campaign, and he then moved on to the Lakers' G League (then known as the NBA Development League) squad in December. In January 2014, he signed his first of two 10-day contracts with the big-league Lakers. He appeared in nine games for them and averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20 minutes a game. Harris went on to make the D-League All-Star Game that season. Afterward, he played four games for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2016-17 season, and other than that, he has had stints with numerous foreign pro basketball teams. For the past couple of years, he has been with Al Riyadi Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League.
