, Belichick tried to help the two superstars form a strong connection. It wasn't about playbooks or locker room speeches. It was, surprisingly, about milk.
'Tom had Antonio come and stay at his house, wanted to embrace him, bring him onto the team,' Belichick recalled. 'Antonio ordered this special milk for Brady, cost $5,000. To make a long story short, it got mixed up and ended up in the mail room for too long, and the milk went bad.'
The situation, bizarre as it sounds, quickly became a litmus test for Belichick's leadership style. Rather than shrugging it off, he made the decision to replace the milk—all $5,000 worth of it—to avoid any emotional disconnect between Brady and Brown.
'We go out and get $5,000 worth of this special milk, and give it to Brady from Antonio,' Belichick explained. 'Sometimes, you've just got to do the right thing, and I didn't want to ruin the relationship between Brown and Brady on this spoiled milk.'
While Brown's time in New England was short-lived—just 13 days, cut short by misconduct allegations—the gesture clearly left a mark. Brady was believed to be disappointed by the team's swift decision to part ways with the wide receiver. The quarterback's attempt to bring Brown into his circle, even letting him stay at his home, was a move meant to create trust and camaraderie—something Belichick fully supported.
