Ms. Banejee added that she has received reports from other States such as Rajasthan about illegal 'pushbacks' of West Bengal citizens with all proper documents to Bangladesh.
'There are tortures and tortures on hapless poor Bengali workers from West Bengal in these States. I am shocked to see these terrible atrocities of double-engine governments on Bengalis in India,' she said on social media.
The Trinamool Congress chairperson asked what does the Union government want to prove? 'This is atrocious and terrible. We are not going to tolerate this. Stop this linguistic terror,' Ms. Banerjee added.
Earlier on July 21, during her party's Martyr's Day Rally, the Chief Minister had announced a 'Language Movement' to protest against the targeting of West Bengal migrants.
'If required, there will be another language movement against the BJP's terrorism on the Bengali language... From July 27, a movement will start in Bengal in protest against the attack on Bengalis, Bengali language and 'Bhasha santras' (linguistic terrorism),' Ms. Banerjee had said. The Chief Minister said that about 1,000 migrants from the State have been either detained or pushed back into Bangladesh.
There have been reports of migrants being detained in Odisha, Haryana and Delhi. Some migrants from the State have been pushed into Bangladesh. On Thursday (July 24, 2025), women from Harishchandrapur in Malda held protests against harassment of migrants from the State. The protesters included both Hindu and Muslim women who raised slogans against the alleged atrocities of migrants from the area working in Haryana.

BJP SCs Morcha criticises State govt. for diverting SCP, TSP funds for guarantee schemes
BJP Scheduled Castes Morcha has criticised the State government for diverting funds meant for Special Component Plan and Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan (SCP/TSP) to the guarantee schemes. State vice-president of BJP SCs Morcha Ambaraya Ashtagi, addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi on Thursday, said that the SCP and TSP plans were introduced for the empowerment of the oppressed sections by allocating exclusive funds in addition to the regular expenditure on various welfare schemes. The SCP-TSP schemes have been designed to empower Scheduled Castes socially, economically and educationally by providing opportunities for skill development, access to quality education and promoting social justice. But diverting these funds for the guarantee schemes has hindered the core objectives of the SCP, TSP schemes, Mr. Ashtagi said. In all, the State government has diverted ₹39,000 crore for the guarantee schemes. It has diverted ₹11,114 crore in 2023-24, ₹14,282 crore in 2024-25 and ₹11,896.84 crore in 2025-26. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah came to power in the name of AHINDA (a coalition of minorities, backward classes and Dalits) by promising to empower these communities. But he has failed to implement any concrete programmes to uplift Dalits and his decisions are depriving the rights of Scheduled Castes, Mr. Ashtagi said.

BJP delegation meets Union Minister over raising Almatti Dam height to 524 m
Taking exception to an objection raised by the Maharashtra government to Karnataka's move to raise the height of the Almatti dam to 524 m from 519 m under the second phase of Upper Krishna Project, a delegation of BJP MPs from the State, led by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, met the Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on Thursday. The delegation apprised the Union Minister of the factual situation and said that the move to raise the dam height is being unnecessarily opposed by the Maharashtra government. Terming the opposition condemnable, they told the Minister that as per the order of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal, increasing the height of the Almatti dam is Karnataka's right. Later, addressing media persons, party MP Basavaraj Bommai said that consequent to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis leading a delegation of MPs to the Union Water Resources Minister opposing the State's move to increasing the height of Almatti dam, a BJP delegation, led by Mr. Joshi, met Mr. C.R. Patil and also Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna to convey that Maharashtra's objections to raising the dam's height are unwarranted and motivated. Mr. Bommai said that the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal II has approved raising the height of the Almatti dam to 524 m. 'Prior to this, a joint survey by the Centre and three State governments was conducted, including a hydrological study, which concluded that raising the dam will not cause flooding. Even during the 2005 floods, the Central Water Commission stated that there will be no flooding in Sangli and Kolhapur due to the dam. Therefore, Maharashtra's objection is unwarranted. And, it seems to stem from ill intent,' he said. Mr. Bommai said that the tribunal's order is equivalent to a Supreme Court decree and the right of Karnataka to raise the height of the dam as per the tribunal's order has been clearly communicated to the Union Minister. The government will act in accordance with the court order as the issue of gazette notification is pending before the Supreme Court, he said. The former Chief Minister said that the Union Minister told the delegation that nothing will be done outside the purview of the law. Mr. Bommai said that he will also urge the State government to use its legal resources to ensure that the matter is heard by the Supreme Court at the earliest so as to get the gazette notification published. The BJP delegation comprised Govind Karjol, P.C. Gaddigoudar and Ramesh Jigajinagi.
