Malaysians evacuated safely from Iran, expected to arrive tonight
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians evacuated from Iran are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) tonight via Malaysia Airlines flight MH781.
According to the Wisma Putra, the evacuees departed aboard Turkmenistan Airlines flight T5-647 today and are currently en route to Malaysia via Bangkok, Thailand.
They are expected to arrive here at 10.50pm.
The evacuation was facilitated by the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran and coordinated with the Malaysian Embassies in Ashgabat and Bangkok.
On June 19, the ministry said the evacuation would involve overland travel northeast of Tehran towards the Turkmenistan border. The group would then have to proceed from the border to Turkmenistan's capital of Ashgabat.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan ordered the temporary closure of the Malaysian embassy in Iran, directing embassy staff in the country to return home immediately.
Mohamad confirmed that many other foreign missions have done the same following the latest developments in the Middle East involving Israel.
The United States announced its entry into the Iran-Israel War earlier today, stating that it has carried out attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the underground uranium enrichment facility at Fordow.
Entering its second week, Israel began the conflict through 'preemptive' airstrikes on several strategic sites in Iran, including nuclear facilities, missile bases and military command centres, followed with retaliation by the Gulf state.

Malaysia warns rising Islamophobia
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed deep concern over the rise of Islamophobia, warning that normalisation of anti-Muslim sentiment is increasingly used to justify attacks against Muslims worldwide. Speaking at the 51st Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Turkiye, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said incidents of discrimination and attacks against Muslims have reached unprecedented levels. 'Normalised Islamophobia has become the main justification of Israel's crimes against Palestine and Iran, as well as of the persecution of Muslims in some countries,' he said while delivering Malaysia's national statement at the meeting on Saturday. He urged for a strong partnership between the UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia and the Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary-General, in focusing on promoting understanding across faiths, and fighting against bigotry. Mohamad also called on the international community to take stronger action against Israel's systemic atrocities on Palestine and its recent illegal aggression against Iran which resulted in the deaths of innocent Iranian civilians. He warned that the international community's inaction only lends substance to Israel's belief that it is immune from consequence. 'The UN Security Council's paralysis over Israel's atrocities is utterly embarrassing. There can be no peace without justice. 'The very notion of justice demands that we confront the ridiculous and impossible conditions being placed on Palestinian statehood,' he said. He said Malaysia remains steadfast in its solidarity with the Palestinian people, while urging the global community to exert all efforts to realise an independent State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital. 'We stand at a critical juncture. The OIC's relevance depends on the strength of our institutions, including the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC),' he added. He said the theme of the meeting 'The OIC in a Transforming World', has called for member states to advance peace, socio-economic development, and collectively tackle the multiple crises facing our world. On the IPHRC, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to the promotion of human rights, with an emphasis on economic, social, and cultural rights. Malaysia has been elected as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for the 2025–2028 term on the sidelines of the CFM meeting. 'These form the bedrock of sustainable development. By focusing on these areas, we can enable a resilient and enduring socio-economic growth. 'Malaysia stands ready to forge an enduring partnership that brings lasting benefit, and a more promising future for our Ummah,' he said. He also expressed confidence that Malaysia's representative to the IPHRC, Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr. Aishah Bidin, with her vast experience and valuable expertise - including in the realm of sustainable development - will make a meaningful contribution towards achieving this goal. Aishah will serve on the commission for the said term beginning this August, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry. The two-day CFM meeting was attended by over 40 foreign ministers from OIC's 57 member states, and representatives from 30 international organisations, underscoring the importance of the meeting in addressing urgent regional geopolitical situations.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump delivered brief remarks from the White House late Saturday after the US military carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Here is what Trump said in full: "A short time ago the US military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime: Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. "Everybody heard those names for years as they built this horribly destructive enterprise. "Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror. "Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. "Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. "Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier. "For 40 years, Iran has been saying, 'Death to America, Death to Israel.' "They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs, with roadside bombs. That was their specialty, we lost over 1,000 people. "And hundreds of thousands throughout the Middle East and around the world have died as a direct result of their hate, in particular, so many were killed by their general Qasem Soleimani. [FACTBOX] US B-2 bombers, bunker-busters and alternatives
WASHINGTON: The US Air Force's B-2 Spirit stealth bombers were involved in strikes on Iran's nuclear sites on Saturday. Three Iranian nuclear sites were struck in a "very successful attack," President Donald Trump said on Saturday, adding that the crown jewel of Tehran's nuclear programme, Fordow, is gone. The B-2 is one of America's most advanced strategic weapons platforms, capable of entering sophisticated air defenses and delivering precision strikes against hardened targets such as Iran's buried network of nuclear research facilities. B-2 SPIRIT SPECIFICATIONS: The US B-2 costs about US$2.1 billion each, making it the most expensive military aircraft ever built. Made by Northrop Grumman, the bomber, with its cutting-edge stealth technology, began its production run in the late 1980s but was curbed by the fall of the Soviet Union. Only 21 were made after the Pentagon's planned acquisition programme was truncated. The bomber's range of over 6,000 nautical miles (11,112km) without refueling enables global strike capabilities from continental US bases. With aerial refueling, the B-2 can reach virtually any target worldwide, as demonstrated in missions from Missouri to Afghanistan and Libya and now Iran. Its payload capacity of more than 40,000 pounds (18,144kg) allows the aircraft to carry a diverse array of conventional and nuclear weapons. The bomber's internal weapons bays are specifically designed to maintain stealth characteristics while accommodating large ordnance loads which could include two GBU-57A/B MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator), a 30,000-pound precision-guided "bunker buster" bomb. Reports said six bunker buster bombs were used on Iran's Fordow research site. The B-2's two-pilot crew configuration reduces personnel requirements while maintaining operational effectiveness through advanced automation systems. The B-2's stealth technology incorporates radar-absorbing materials and angular design features that minimise detection by enemy air defense systems. Its radar cross-section is reportedly comparable to that of a small bird, making it nearly invisible to conventional radar. MASSIVE ORDNANCE PENETRATOR (MOP): The 30,000-pound MOP represents the largest conventional bomb in the US arsenal, specifically engineered to defeat hardened underground bunkers. Its massive size requires the B-2 to carry only one or two MOPs per mission, but provides unmatched bunker-penetration capability. The weapon's 20.5-foot (6.25-m) length and GPS-guided precision targeting system enable accurate strikes against specific underground facilities. Its penetration capability of over 200 feet through hardened concrete makes it effective against the world's most protected underground installations. CONVENTIONAL PAYLOADS: Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) provide the B-2 with precision conventional strike capability against fixed targets. These GPS-guided weapons can be deployed in large numbers, with the bomber capable of simultaneously engaging multiple targets with high accuracy. Joint Standoff Weapons (JSOW) extend the aircraft's engagement range while maintaining stealth characteristics during approach. These glide bombs allow the B-2 to strike targets from outside heavily defended airspace perimeters. Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) offer long-range precision strike capability with their own stealth features. The extended-range JASSM-ER variant provides strike options against targets over 500 miles (805km) away. The B-2 Spirit serves as a key component of America's nuclear triad, capable of delivering strategic nuclear weapons with stealth and precision. The aircraft can carry up to 16 B83 nuclear bombs.
