When Hong Kong actor Albert Law Ho-kai made his last public appearance on a talk show in 2021, he revealed that cervical spine issues had left him unable to sit upright.
In a more recent interview with HK01, Law, 75, shared that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease more than 10 years ago, and his health has steadily declined over the years.
'My condition is deteriorating. I have Parkinson's disease, and it has worsened over the past year or two. My mobility is far from ideal,' he said.
Law added that he's currently unable to walk on his own and requires a wheelchair to get around. His daily needs are attended to by his wife and caretakers.
Despite being wheelchair-bound, the former TVB actor maintains a sense of humour, joking that he enjoys 'speeding' near his home.
Still, he admitted that he does feel a little discouraged at times.
'These days, I don't even bother seeing a doctor when I'm sick … Just sitting here feels meaningless,' he shared.
Even so, Law continues to find pockets of joy in his hobbies such as singing and recording music, adding; 'I recently started learning to play the guitar too.'
Since joining TVB in 1975, Law has starred in series such as Kung Fu (1975), You Only Live Twice (1982), You're Hired (2009) and Come Home Love (2012-2015), among others.
In 2017, Law left the Hong Kong broadcaster and gradually retreated from the spotlight, making only occasional appearances in dramas.

#SHOWBIZ: Actor Peter Lai, 75, searching for soul mate, estranged from son

HONG KONG: Veteran lyricist and actor Peter Lai, 75, recently opened up about his personal life in an interview with 8Days. The publication reported that Peter has a son from his previous marriage, which ended in 1992. He described his son as someone who "mooches off the elderly," revealing he had been helping him clear credit card debt amounting to hundreds of thousands of Hong Kong dollars for about two years. Peter only managed to settle all his son's debts last month. He complained that his son ignores him and treats him "like a stranger." Peter confessed he is now looking for a soulmate for companionship, openly stating his intention to marry. "Lee Lung Kei can do it, why can't I?" he remarked, referring to veteran actor Lee Lung Kei, 73, whose 36-year-old Chinese fiancée made headlines last year after being arrested for overstaying in Hong Kong. When asked if he was concerned about his son's future after he passed away, Peter calmly replied: "Let him fend for himself. When I'm gone, he can live under the bridge; he's not going to die, he can apply for public housing! He'll survive." Peter is renowned for co-writing the lyrics to many popular Cantopop songs in the 1970s and 80s alongside Sam Hui. These tracks include Leslie Cheung's 'Monica' and Sam's 'Susie of Tsim Sha Tsui'. In the 1990s, Peter went on to star in numerous TVB dramas until his contract with the broadcaster concluded in 2012.

HK lyricist Peter Lai, 75, wants a soulmate, says son treats him like a stranger

Hong Kong lyricist Peter Lai is on the lookout for a soulmate, with marriage in mind. Photo: China Press Hong Kong lyricist and actor Peter Lai recently opened up about his personal life, including his relationship with his son from a previous marriage that ended in 1992. In an interview with HK01, Lai, 75, described his son as someone who 'mooches off the elderly'. He revealed that he had spent over HK$100,000 (RM53,716) to fund the younger man's four-year Traditional Chinese Medicine studies in Nanjing – only for the latter to fail to graduate. 'He was just messing around. I'd bet 99% that's what happened, so he didn't graduate. It was a waste of time and money… But whatever, that's all in the past now,' he said. Despite the disappointment, Lai continued to help his son pay off his credit card debts over the past two years. He cleared the full amount last month. Lai then expressed frustration over his now 37-year-old son's lifestyle, saying the latter spends his days playing video games and rarely speaks to him. 'He doesn't even bother talking to me. We might as well be strangers,' he lamented. Given the circumstances, it's no surprise that Lai would feel lonely at times. He shared that he's now looking for a 'soulmate' and is openly putting himself out there, with marriage in mind. 'If Lee Lung Kei can do it, why can't I?' he said. For context, Lee, 73, is a former TVB actor who made headlines in recent years for his relationship with his 37-year-old fiancee Chris Wong. When asked if he's concerned about his son's future after he's gone, Lai bluntly said his son can fend for himself. 'If I'm gone, he can sleep under a bridge. He's not going to die. He can just apply for public housing or something.' Lai is regarded as part of the pioneer generation of Cantopop lyricists in Hong Kong. He has written songs for some of the city's biggest stars – including Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Alan Tam and more.
