NHL Draft reportedly to remain decentralized
Unless the vote sees a last minute change, this will be bad news if confirmed for the majority of NHL fans who preferred it centralized. The new for 2025 draft format proved to be massively unpopular for how long and tedious it was. The 1st Round took over 5 hours long due to all the extra interviews and celebrity speeches that were added in an attempt to spice up the show and provide entertainment.

There is the old adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it." The NHL draft for years was among the most popular events on the league's calendar. The iconic moment of players in the first round walking up to the stage and shaking hands with their chosen organization's team personnel was always a highlight. Who could forget that first picture taken of each player with their new team? This year it didn't mean the same with it being virtual for the owners and managers not on site.
The whole point of the change was to make the draft flow better and it did anything but. Hopefully the future de-centralized drafts will see improvement and attempt to mimic the same magic of the old drafts. It will be interesting to see how long this format lasts depending on its future progression.

Few players have been with the Vancouver Canucks longer than defenceman Tyler Myers. The 35-year-old signed with Vancouver in 2019 and is getting set for his seventh season with the organization. A leader on and off the ice, Myers is projected to play a key role once again during the 2025-26 season. Recently, Myers joined the Cam and Strick Podcast to discuss a variety of topics. During the conversation, the Canucks defender discussed Quinn Hughes' future, as well as who the best trash talker on the team is. To start, Myers was asked about next year and focusing on making the playoffs rather than dealing with the noise surrounding the team. Advertisement "It is nice to focus on that, said Myers. "I think, when you're talking about Vancouver, you're always going to hear about something. It's just the way the market is. When things aren't going well, it's tough, but when things are going well, it's it's an amazing place to play. My family and I, we're close to home. We love Vancouver. It's an unbelievable hockey city. there's going to be highs and lows. Coming into this year, excited to start. We're able to keep guys, you know, this last week, to keep a lot of the room intact with important guys. It's good, and now we can just focus on building for that." We were figuring things out, just like every other team does with different situations. But our locker room was great. I like coming into the rink every day. The guys are really close, and we weren't too worried about it." Looking ahead to the future, Myers was asked about his new head coach, Adam Foote. After Rick Tocchet left this off-season to join the Philadelphia Flyers, Foote was promoted to head coach after spending the last two and a half seasons as an assistant. Based on his answer, it is clear that Myers is excited about Foote becoming his next head coach. Speaking of great players, Myers was also asked about Quinn Hughes, who finished third in Norris Trophy voting this past season. The two have been teammates since Hughes' rookie season, when he finished as the runner up for the Calder Trophy. In his answer, Myers not only discussed Hughes' development since joining the league, but also gave Vancouver's captain a significant compliment. Advertisement "It was five years ago when I was like, wow, this guy is amazing. And it seems like every year since then, he's only gotten better. Just when I think he's at his ceiling, in his prime, he just keeps getting better. It's crazy. But the thing with Huggy, I think the thing that separates him is his edge work, and the way he separates himself from guys gives him so much time and space. Then his skill just takes over. He is maybe the best player I've seen in my career. You know, him and Makar are on another level. It's fun to watch. He's amazing." Over the last few months, there has been considerable speculation regarding Hughes and whether he will leave once his contract expires in two years. The story then exploded when President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford mentioned that trading the 2024 Norris Trophy winner might be a possibility in the future. According to Myers, he has also heard the rumours but believes the story has become a bit overblown. "He doesn't like all that speculation and stuff. He loves his brothers, loves his family, like everybody else, but he's not going around the room saying he wants to play with his brothers. I know it's a big, big story around the hockey world, but everyone makes it a lot more than it is." Lastly, Myers was asked who the best trash talker on the team is. His answer was Kiefer Sherwood, who set the NHL record for hits in a season. As Myers explains, Sherwood was a massive addition to the lineup last season thanks to his never-end motor and willingness to put his body on the line every night. "You know what, he just finishes everything. If he's around another guy, he's finishing him. It doesn't matter where he is. He's a warrior. He competes with the best of them. He broke the hit record this year, right? But, yeah, I mean, anytime he was around somebody, he was leaning into it, whether it was big or small. It was really good for us. He brought an element that I think our team needed. He did great for us." If the Canucks are going to be successful in 2025-26, they need Myers to have another strong season. He averaged just under 21 minutes a night in 2024-25 and was a fixture in Vancouver's top four all year. 2025 MLB All-Star Game to take place at Braves' home park after it was taken away over voting law controversy
The MLB All-Star Game will take place Tuesday night at Truist Park in Cumberland, Georgia, with the American League looking to continue its dominance over the National League. The American League has won 10 out of the last 11 games, not including the 2020 season in which the game was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The National League won the game in 2023, but the American League rectified their loss last season in Arlington, Texas. This year, the game heads to the home of the Atlanta Braves. It's the first time the All-Star Game will be played in their stadium since they played at Turner Field in 2000. The Braves were initially supposed to host the 2021 All-Star Game at Truist Park, but it was removed over an uproar about a voting law the state passed. The Election Integrity Act of 2021 placed new restrictions on voting by mail, added voter ID requirements and limited ballot drop boxes. Then-President Joe Biden criticized the law as "Jim Crow on steroids." On Monday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp praised MLB for returning the game to Atlanta and creating economic opportunities for businesses in the city. "We're excited about the game finally being here. It should have been here several years ago. They never should have pulled it to start with, but thankfully the game's coming back," Kemp said in an appearance on "Fox & Friends." "It's good for the Braves organization. It's good for all the vendors and small business people in and around the ballpark and in the city of Atlanta up in Cobb County and really for our whole state." The law is presently still in place as the baseball world descends on the city. As far as the game goes, reigning American League Cy Young pitcher Tarik Skubal, of the Detroit Tigers, is set to start against National League Rookie of the Year, Pittsburgh Pirates star Paul Skenes. New York Yankees' All-Star Max Fried handed Skubal the opportunity to start the game as he felt that Skubal had earned the honor. Rowe's late goal lifts Toronto to 1-0 NSL road win over Halifax
HALIFAX — Lauren Rowe's goal in the 79th minute snapped a scoreless tie and lifted the visiting AFC Toronto to a 1-0 Northern Super League victory over the Halifax Tides on Tuesday at Wanderers Grounds. Eight minutes earlier Toronto's Victoria Pickett drilled a shot off the goalpost as the first-place visitors applied pressure on the last-place hosts. Advertisement Toronto, which had 17 shot attempts compared to 11 for Halifax, finished with four on-target shots. They improved to eights wins, three losses and one draw for 25 points. The visitors became the first NSL team to five win straight matches. 'It (the goal) honestly didn't feel real at first — being away, I didn't hear much of a cheer, but when my teammates came over to celebrate, it hit me. It was such a special moment," said Rowe. The Tides, who also had four on-target shots, received two of the match's four yellow cards and slipped to three wins, seven losses and one draw for 10 points. 'We played against a very organized and motivated team in front of a great home crowd,' said Toronto head coach Marko Milanovic.
