Classical music at Coachella? LA Philharmonic makes desert debut
The first major orchestra to grace the annual music and arts festival in the Southern California desert was joined by several vocalists, including jazz pop singer Laufey, who debuted her new song "Silver Lining", and Becky G with her pop song "Shower."
Country singer Maren Morris arrived on the stage in a shimmering gold dress, delivering her gospel number "My Church" alongside a majority Black choir.

Perhaps the most anticipated guest, German record producer and DJ Zedd, hopped on the piano and the choir, in yellow gowns, joined him for his popular 2012 song "Clarity."
LL Cool J arrived in a yellow hoodie and took audiences far from the classical ambiance into his popular rap song "Mama Said Knock You Out."
In a special moment on stage, LL Cool J presented Dudamel with a yellow hat that matched both the rapper and the choir.

The LA Philharmonic, considered one of the world's top orchestras, has been long admired for snaring Venezuelan sensation Dudamel more than 15 years ago.

I'm thrilled that both of us are coming out this month," director Matt Shakman of "Fantastic Four: First Steps" told Reuters at the London premiere. "I think we share a lot of similar optimism in our tone and our feeling in the worlds that we're building. And there's room for 'Superman,' there's room for 'Fantastic Four.' I'm thrilled. "Superman" director Gunn, who directed the Marvel movie "Guardians of the Galaxy", said in an interview in Los Angeles that he grew up reading both Marvel and DC comic books, appreciating their distinct tones. In theaters on July 11, "Superman" introduced David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. The movie grossed around $173 million globally and $264 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo. Warner Bros has heavily invested in "Superman," aiming to launch a new era at DC Studios under Gunn, named co-CEO, alongside producer Peter Safran. Upcoming projects include a Supergirl film slated for June 2026, a film based on the character Swamp Thing as well as TV shows for HBO Max. Disney said "Fantastic Four," which stars Pedro Pascal, opened with $24.4 million in ticket sales in the United States and Canada on Thursday night while Daniel Loria, senior vice president at Boxoffice predicts that "Fantastic Four: First Steps" will open domestically at $115 million to $135 million. Recovering Giorgio Armani says he will be back in September
The founder of Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani issued a message as he turned 91 on Friday to say that he will be back in September, after a health problem forced him to miss the Milan and Paris fashion shows in recent weeks. It was the first time Giorgio Armani has missed one of his catwalk events. His company said last month he was recovering at home, without elaborating on his health, while Italian newswires reported that he had been in hospital for some days. "In the last few weeks I strongly felt the embrace of those who were thinking of me," Armani said in an open letter published by several Italian newspapers, mentioning family, colleagues, employees, the press and people on social media. "Today, on my 91st birthday, I want to thank all of you for the closeness you have shown me. It wasn't easy for me not to hear your applause live. 'Superman' returns to screens with 'kindness, flying dogs and space battles'
Donning the famous red cape for the first time in the new "Superman" movie gave actor David Corenswet a big confidence boost. A relative newcomer, Corenswet follows in the footsteps of Christopher Reeve and more recently Henry Cavill, taking over the role of Clark Kent and Superman in the reboot movie, which was launched with a red carpet fan event in London on Wednesday. "Superman" offers the first look at director James Gunn's vision for the remake of the DC Universe (DCU) at Warner Bros . The "Guardians of the Galaxy" filmmaker, who also wrote the "Superman" screenplay, said he wanted to combine elements from the comic books and the mythos of Superman in cinema. "My 'Superman' is about, you know, in a world where there's so much meanness and so many petty things happening, Superman, who can often be seen as old-fashioned or too earnest, too kind, he is those things.
