‘I didn't expect us to win so quickly' – Mohamed Salah on the impact of Arne Slot at Liverpool
In an interview with France Football, Mohamed Salah (32) was asked about the impact of Jürgen Klopp leaving Liverpool as head coach and how well Arne Slot has done since replacing the German in the hot seat at Anfield.
Klopp announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. Ordinarily, when such a historic and successful figure leaves a football club, their successor struggles to cope with the expectation and demands that are set in following them. However, this is not the case for Arne Slot. The Dutch manager has done brilliantly since he arrived from Feyenoord and has won the Premier League title in his first season with the Premier League club.

Salah has also seen the impact of Slot since he arrived at Anfield. The Egypt international is enjoying his best season for Liverpool statistically, with 46 goal contributions in 35 matches – setting a new record for goal contributions in a 38-game season.
Highlighting the impact of Liverpool's new head coach, Salah said, 'I didn't expect us to win so quickly. Who could have predicted that the transition would be successful so quickly? No one, I think. In preseason, Arne came to see me and asked me to be an example for the other players. I told him not to worry because I'm always at my best, not to set an example, but because that's who I am. He told me what he expected of me in the game, with a lot of responsibilities in running, which I liked.'
The Egyptian international also compared the differences between the former Feyenoord coach and Klopp, 'Arne is very direct, he re-established the competition, whereas with Jürgen, we were perhaps a little too much in our comfort zone towards the end. Arne and his staff are more open to discussion, to sharing feelings, I think that was important in my performances. And, above all, it led us to success.'

Boos rang out as England left the field after a 3-1 loss to Senegal in a friendly on Tuesday which marked the first defeat of Thomas Tuchel's tenure as coach. Senegal recovered from conceding Harry Kane's early goal to become the first team from Africa to record a victory over England. "We're not going to panic. Jude Bellingham thought he'd leveled the game for England with a goal at a corner in the 84th, but it was ruled out for an earlier handball by Levi Colwill. Senegal made it 3-1 when Cheikh Sabaly finished off a counter in stoppage time. Depay ties a Dutch record Memphis Depay tied the scoring record for the Netherlands men's national team with two goals in the eight-goal win over Malta. Depay scored in the ninth and 16th minutes for his 49th and 50th goals, equaling a record set by team great Robin van Persie. Depay hit 50 goals in his 102nd game for the Netherlands, while van Persie's 50th came in his 101st game in 2015. ‘No need to panic', insists Tuchel after England slump to Senegal defeat
Thomas Tuchel insisted England should not panic over their World Cup prospects despite being humbled by Senegal one year and one day before the tournament starts. Tuchel suffered the first defeat of his reign at the City Ground and England their first loss to African opposition in 22 matches as Senegal ran out deserving 3-1 winners. Jude Bellingham had a goal controversially disallowed at 2-1 but, after the laboured win against Andorra in World Cup qualifying on Saturday, there was no disguising the paucity of England's latest performance under their German coach. England were booed off for the second game in succession. 'We lost a test match so there is no need to panic,' said Tuchel. 'We have three qualification games, we have nine points, we have not conceded and we will be competitive in September and we will go for two more victories, 100%. We know more now, we are smarter. It is tough at the moment. I am the first one to dislike and hate losses but we don't go next week, we go in one year and I think by nature it will get more competitive in the nomination process and in the demands for players to be nominated and to be with us in September, October, November because we are in a World Cup season.' Tuchel defended his decision to leave Ivan Toney on the bench until the 88th minute, explaining the striker was at his best inside the box and England were not close enough to it when he brought on Morgan Rogers instead. But he conceded the defeat, plus two poor performances, would leave a bad feeling throughout the summer. Liverpool and Leverkusen in final stages of Florian Wirtz transfer negotiations
Negotiations between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen over a deal taking Florian Wirtz to Anfield are in the final stages, with the clubs speaking daily as they try to reach an agreement. Liverpool made an improved second offer for the 22–year-old Germany playmaker last week worth around €134million (£113m), with about €118.7m (£100m) guaranteed. Advertisement This proposal was not rejected as such and talks continue in order to settle on a package that is acceptable to both sides, but Liverpool have no intention to bid as high as the reported €150m (£126.4m) asking price for the attacking midfielder. The discussions — led by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Leverkusen managing director of sport Simon Rolfes — are now mainly focused on the structure and specifically payment terms, plus the nature of any add-ons. A medical has also yet to be arranged. The first part of this summer's transfer window, created for the Club World Cup, has now closed and will not reopen until June 16, giving time for both clubs to agree the finer details of this agreement. The magnitude of the transfer, allied to Leverkusen not specifically needing a trade and Liverpool wanting to work within their parameters, explains why the parties are going into such detail over the situation and it is taking understandable time and patience to find a resolution. There is a level of respect within the dialogue that should produce an amicable outcome for what would be Liverpool's record signing and Leverkusen's biggest sale. There is, meanwhile, a possible departure from Merseyside in the form of Darwin Nunez. Al Hilal contacted Liverpool about the Uruguay striker on Monday and the Saudi Pro League team were made aware about the conditions of a move. Liverpool rejected a proposal worth €70m from Al Nassr in January and that sets a minimum bar if an exit is to materialise. Nunez is thought to favour staying in Europe — Spain and Italy being a priority. Atletico Madrid are among those considering the forward.
