If you somehow had it on your 2025 Bingo card that the director of the 10-time Oscar nominated "Wicked" would be helming a live-action "Hot Wheels" feature as one of his next projects, congratulations.
Deadline reports that "Wicked" and "Wicked: For Good" director Jon M. Chu has signed on to direct "Hot Wheels," an action film based on the die-cast toy cars from Mattel.

The writing team of Juel Taylor & Tony Rettenmaier will write the "Hot Wheels" script. The pair have worked on such projects as "Creed II," "Space Jam: A New Legacy," and "They Cloned Tyrone."

Hot Wheels cars by Mattel are offered for sale at a big box store on April 23, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois"Jon's ability to craft rich, elaborate worlds with a distinct point of view makes him the ideal storyteller to bring Hot Wheels to life," Mattel Studios' President and Chief Content Officer Robbie Brenner said in a statement to Deadline. "His films are visual spectacles—true eye candy—but what sets them apart is how he weaves unforgettable narratives within those stunning frames."
"Paired with Juel and Tony's compelling storytelling, this team is uniquely positioned to capture the heart, adrenaline, and spirit of Hot Wheels, a leading brand in car culture."
"Hot Wheels has always been about more than speed – it's about imagination, connection, and the thrill of play," said Chu. "Bringing that spirit to the big screen is an incredible opportunity. I'm excited to partner with Mattel Studios, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Bad Robot to create an adventure that honors Hot Wheels' legacy while driving it somewhere entirely new."
Chu is an interesting choice to direct "Hot Wheels" considering his already diverse filmography. Along with Broadway musical adaptations such as the "Wicked" films and "In the Heights" (along with the upcoming "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" remake), his directorial credits include "Crazy Rich Asians" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
Chu also has on his to-do list the video game adaptation "Split Fiction" starring Sydney Sweeney, and "Oh, the Places You'll Go" co-directed by Jill Culton.
The "Hot Wheels" movie was first announced in 2022. Considering the astronomical success of 2023's "Barbie" (another Mattel property), Mattel and Warner Bros. no doubt have high hopes for Chu's "Hot Wheels." The Margot Robbie-starrer brought in $1.4 billion at the global box office.

Ariana Grande Shares a ‘Perfect Witch' Tribute to Her Late Nonna

THE RUNDOWN On Saturday, Ariana Grande shared a carousel of pictures from her recent life, with several nods to her grandmother, Marjorie Grande, known by the family as 'Nonna.' The singer announced her Nonna's passing at the age of 99 in late June. In her new post, she shared photos with her grandmother when she was a young girl, a shot of her brother, Frankie Grande, wearing a shirt emblazoned with 'Nonna' in rhinestone lettering, a video of her mother, Joan Grande, receiving a kiss from Marjorie, and a quote from her grandmother of particular significance. Over a shot of the moon out in a bright sky, Ariana wrote the question, 'Are you a good witch or a bad witch?' Underneath, she shared her grandmother's response, in which she said, 'I'm a perfect witch.' Over the last several years, Ariana has been filming the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Wicked, in which she plays Glinda the Good Witch. The conversation she shared seems to imply she and her Nonna had obviously discussed the themes of the film together. The singer shared her mother's announcement of Marjorie's passing in her Instagram Stories, which read, 'We are devastated to share that the beloved matriarch of our family has passed away. Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed peacefully in her home and was surrounded by her family and loved ones for every moment of her last few weeks.' She later shared a black-and-white photo of Marjorie on her wedding day, writing in the caption, 'Forever.' Marjorie made an appearance on Ariana's most recent album, Eternal Sunshine, vocalizing on 'Ordinary Things.' 'And as I told her, never go to bed without kissin' goodnight / That's the worst thing to do,' Marjorie can be heard saying on the track. 'Don't ever, ever do that / And if you can't, and if you don't feel comfortable doing it / You're in the wrong place, get out.'

Dog Feels Baby Kick for First Time—His Face Said It All: 'Betrayed'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A dog has let his owner know exactly how he feels about his family's impending arrival. In a clip on TikTok, expectant mom Jazmine (@jazminedumoulin) is sitting with Koa the pit bull. Resting his head on her belly, Koa's face goes from calm curiosity to what Jazmine jokingly described as "betrayed" when he feels the baby kick for the first time. At 25 weeks pregnant, Jazmine shared the adorable reaction in the caption, noting that "he hasn't laid on my stomach since." But can dogs truly feel jealous or betrayed when they sense a baby on the way? Dr. Preston Turano, licensed veterinarian and spokesperson for ASPCA Pet Health Insurance, told Newsweek that dogs can get jealous of new babies, or anything that diverts attention for that matter. "Dogs don't comprehend that you're pregnant, but they do notice changes, whether with your body or around the house, changes in schedule or routines, and even new smells and noises," Turano said. In this case, Turano added that Koa was most likely surprised by the new noise or unexpected sensation of the kick. "[He's] now a little suspicious about what's going on while resting its head on her belly," he said. Jazmine's clip has been viewed more than 843,000 times and received hundreds of comments. Many of the users pointed out Koa's surprised reaction. "That face looked like, 'What did you eat?!'" one user wrote. "My dog too lmao [laughing my a** off]. She definitely thinks it's me and not the baby," another commented. For pet owners expecting a newborn, Turano said you should prepare pets early by blocking off the baby's room and crib; gradually introduce new baby items or moving furniture; and play recordings of a baby noises, including crying. "Take a blanket from the hospital and introduce it to your dog so they can get used to the new smell before the baby arrives," he added. Turano said: "You should contact your veterinary team prior to the arrival of the baby to discuss any recommended parasite screening and parasite preventatives. This is also a good time to discuss and create a plan with your veterinarian that sets your dog and your family up for success."
