Before he was Bollywood royalty, Shah Rukh Khan was just a theatre kid from Delhi. Actor Amar Talwar has now shared rare, unseen monochrome photos of SRK from 1990.
Long before he became the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan was just another passionate young man with dreams in his eyes and theatre in his heart. And now, a rare glimpse into that chapter of his life has surfaced online, thanks to actor Amar Talwar — his former co-star and fellow theatre companion.
Talwar, best known for his roles in Shanti and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, recently took to Facebook to share never-before-seen monochrome photographs of Shah Rukh Khan from the early 1990s, just before the latter took the leap into Bollywood. The heartfelt post has since gone viral, delighting SRK fans with a dose of nostalgia and humility.

'Going through my old pics, came across these I'd clicked of Shah Rukh Khan with my son, Manoj – 'Tally' to the world – sometime around 1990, before Shah Rukh's departure for Bollywood," wrote Talwar in the caption. He recalled their days performing together in Barry John's iconic Theatre Action Group (TAG), featuring in plays like Rough Crossing and Who's Life Is It Anyway.
He even shared an anecdote about a third production, Lend Me A Tenor, where Barry John had initially envisioned SRK for a role. 'But by then Shah Rukh had left for Mumbai, Bollywood… and the rest is history — I guess," Talwar added with a sense of wistful pride.
The three black-and-white photos exude a raw charm — one captures a young SRK flashing his iconic smile straight at the camera, another shows him handling a Pentax Spotmatic camera with ease, and the third is a tender moment where he holds Talwar's son in his arms. These images, stripped of stardom and spectacle, offer a rare window into the grounded and affable young man behind the megastar persona.
Fans across social media platforms have been quick to celebrate the photographs, with many commenting on how SRK's charisma was evident even back then. The post has sparked a flurry of shared memories and theatre anecdotes from those who knew Khan during his early Delhi days.
For the uninitiated, Amar Talwar played Rani Mukerji's father in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and has been a familiar face in both films and television. His unexpected photo drop has not only given fans a treasure trove of memories but also reminded them of Shah Rukh Khan's grounded beginnings in the world of theatre and art.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, and starring his daughter Suhana Khan. The action-packed thriller is slated for a mid-2026 release and marks yet another milestone in SRK's ever-evolving journey — from a Delhi theatre enthusiast to a global icon.

‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood' Preview: Aryan Khan's debut series is about the stylised and chaotic world of the Hindi film industry

Netflix released the preview of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Aryan Khan's highly anticipated directorial debut that launches on September 18. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd, the series is created by Aryan Khan, and co-created by Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, all of whom have also written the series. The preview of Netflix's The Ba***ds of Bollywood reveals a stylised yet chaotic world, laced with self-aware humour, and a tongue-in-cheek tone. 'It's the ultimate underdog story that asks: how far will you go for your dream, what are you willing to lose, and can you survive a few Bollywood baddies along the way (pun totally intended!),' said the makers in a release. During the launch, Shah Rukh Khan introduced the cast of the show in his inimitable style and playful humour, including Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, and Vijayant Kohli with Rajat Bedi and Gautami Kapoor—all of whom shared insights into their characters and experience shooting this cheeky, no-filter series. In a moment that had the crowd buzzing, Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan took the stage to introduce the world of The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Aryan spoke about creating a story inspired by real emotions and human ambition, saying, 'With The Ba***ds of Bollywood, I wanted to build a world that feels alive, a mix of glitz and grit, where ambition shines, egos clash, and nothing is ever as it seems. In Netflix, we found a partner who shared our creative vision—helping us tell the story exactly how it needed to be told, raw, stylised, and something the world has never experienced before.' Bohot hard. Aur bohot heart bhi ❤️‍🔥🎬 Watch The Ba***ds of Bollywood, out 18 September, only on Netflix.# — Netflix India (@NetflixIndia) August 20, 2025 After Bard of Blood, Darlings, Bhakshak, Betaal, and Class of '83, this marks the sixth collaboration between Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment, and easily their boldest, most unfiltered one yet. Shah Rukh Khan said, 'It's a proud moment to see Aryan carve out his vision with such clarity and edge.
