Dodgers bring in former Yankees reliever for bullpen depth
Former New York Yankees reliever Lou Trivino is getting another shot. After being released by the San Francisco Giants this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed the right-hander to a minor league deal on Saturday, according to MLB Trade Rumors' Anthony Franco.
Trivino's journey has been anything but smooth since the Yankees acquired him at the 2022 trade deadline. He was part of the deal that sent J.P. Sears and other prospects to Oakland.

Acquired alongside Frankie Montas from Oakland, Trivino quickly became a reliable bullpen arm in the Bronx, posting a stellar 1.66 ERA over 25 appearances and delivering four scoreless outings in the postseason.

Trivino suffered a ulnar collateral ligament tear in the 2023 spring training and he missed both the 2023 season and 2024. The Yankees declined his $5 million option for 2025, making him a free agent.
Trivino signed a minor league deal with the Giants in February and made their Opening Day roster after an impressive spring. However, his regular-season performance was inconsistent, with a 5.84 ERA over 12⅓ innings, leading to his designation for assignment.
Now with the Dodgers, Trivino can try to reclaim his pre-injury form.
For Yankees fans, it's a reminder of that horrible 2022 trade.
Montas made nine appearances and eight starts for the Yankees over two seasons. Coincidentally, he is currently on the injured list for New York's other team, the Mets. Trivino never pitched for them after the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, Sears has become a staple in an up-and-coming A's rotation and faced the Yankees on Saturday.

How the Yankees created even more separation in their rivalry with the Red Sox
'Baseball, I mean, you know,' Aaron Boone said after Wednesday's yawn-filled 4-0 loss to the Guardians in The Bronx. 'I thought we got pitched pretty tough. You know, we just didn't have a great night. I mean, it happens in the 162, so get another opportunity and go win a series tomorrow.' Sure enough, the Yankees reversed the result Thursday night with a 4-0 win as the best-scoring offense in the American League rapped out 10 hits. Blips will happen. But the Yankees took the rubber game against Cleveland and now have won 12 of their past 16 games heading into a weekend series against the Red Sox, who do have some things to worry about. The Yankees (38-23) are 9.5 games ahead of the Red Sox (30-34) in the AL East. Boston, mired in fourth place in the AL East, also trail the Blue Jays and Rays by four games.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts quipped before the game that the 35-year-old veteran first baseman had begun to understand the value of an off day as he's dealt with discomfort in his ankle this season. But with the go-ahead run on second base in the eighth inning, Roberts summoned Freeman off the bench. Was it time for another magical, Freddie Freeman moment at Chavez Ravine? Not so fast. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called for an intentional walk, and up walked Michael Conforto. The 46,364 fans at Dodger Stadium already booed the struggling outfielder after his third-inning strikeout. Hitting .165 entering the game, he was one of the unlikeliest to lead the Dodgers to a comeback victory. But all Conforto needed was one hit, one chance. And he delivered. Against Mets setup man Reed Garrett, Conforto ripped a go-ahead RBI single into left field, helping the Dodgers complete a three-run comeback to defeat the Mets 6-5 and salvage a series split against a potential NL playoff opponent. 'It's been a grind up to this point,' Conforto said. 'All I want to do is go up there and help us win. A lot of those situations I've come up short, so to come through today was everything.'
