DOSH announces stable gas supply for Putra Heights homes
According to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), a temporary gas pipeline measuring approximately 210 metres in length has been installed to replace the pipe damaged in the incident.
"Soil improvement and stabilisation were carried out at the site using a bridge foundation support structure measuring approximately eight metres by 100 metres to provide stronger support for the pipeline," DOSH said in a statement today.
In addition, to ensure maximum safety, several stringent tests were conducted, including non-destructive testing (NDT) on welded joints and a 24-hour pressure test.
It added that test results confirmed by DOSH and an independent third party showed no leakage or pressure drop.
Phase Two of the project will involve replacing three gas pipelines, each approximately 200 metres long, at the affected sites. These pipes will be laid on concrete slab structures to ensure long-term safety and durability.
"The engineering design for this phase is currently being finalised, with operations expected to commence in the third quarter of next year," it said.
In addition, several geotechnical studies, including soil mapping, rock layer analysis, and ground movement monitoring, have been conducted to ensure the overall stability of the installation site.
As an additional safety measure, Petronas has been instructed to provide real-time monitoring access to the pipe isolation valve system, enabling rapid closure in the event of an emergency.
The department also assured that all work will be closely monitored and conducted impartially to safeguard the safety of workers, residents, and nearby businesses.
"DOSH understands the urgent need for residents and businesses to have a safe and stable gas supply restored as soon as possible. We are committed to monitoring every stage of this project to ensure it is carried out responsibly and to restore consumer confidence in the safety of the gas pipeline system in the area," it added.
The April 1 fire incident caused 81 homes to be completely destroyed, with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent; 81 homes partially damaged; 57 homes affected but not burned; and 218 homes left unaffected. - BERNAMA

The PFI model, he noted, has historically drawn criticism for potentially masking a government's true debt obligations in official records. "The government should be safeguarding Petronas, not transforming the company into a 'political ATM' to finance elitist projects that do not offer equitable commercial returns," Afnan added. Calling for an immediate halt to the Putrajaya government quarters project, Afnan demanded that a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis be presented in Parliament. "If the government insists on proceeding, it will become evident that the true purpose behind Kota Madani is not national advancement, but rather the pursuit of political ambition and the legacy of a particular individual," he concluded. On June 26, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the Kota Madani project, conceived as a smart city initiative designed to be people-centric and environmentally sustainable. Reports indicate the project will operate on a build, lease, maintain and transfer model, meaning the government will not directly bear maintenance costs but will pay through a long-term lease arrangement. TTDI residents raise concern over newly-installed EV chargers taking away public parking space
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — The Taman Tun Dr Ismail Residents Association has voiced concern over the recent installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers in the neighbourhood, saying it takes away already limited public parking spaces. Speaking to Malay Mail, association spokesperson Khairudin Rahim said residents are against the placement of these chargers along Lorong Rahim Kajai 13 and Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad. According to Khairudin, these areas are already overwhelmed by parking shortages and cannot afford to have EV chargers taking away more spaces. 'We are not against EV chargers and welcome the initiative. However, why did the city council allow the installation at the expense of taking away some of the public parking spaces?' said Khairudin. He also pointed out that such initiatives might not be practical for an area like TTDI as most houses with EV cars already have their own chargers at home. 'Some of the private buildings in the area, including the Petronas petrol station, already have EV charger stations to accommodate EV car owners,' he added. The dissatisfaction centres around the fact that the strategic location of these EV chargers further reduces available spots for the general public.
