Udupi Deputy Commissioner asks people to link their mobile numbers with Aadhaar
Chairing the district-level Aadhaar monitoring committee meeting at Rajatadri, district office complex in Manipal, Ms. Swaroopa said that of the 14,11,209 Aadhaar cardholders in the district, 13,42,275 cardholders have linked their mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar. The remaining cardholders should complete the linking process at the earliest, she said.
She also asked students aged 15 and above to update their Aadhaar by providing fresh biometrics and otherwise the Aadhaar would be disabled. As many as 41,115 adolescents were still required to update their Aadhaar in the district, she said, adding that failure to do so may hinder them from taking exams. She also stated that of the 45,832 children enrolled in the Poshan Tracker at Anganwadi centres, 11,947 were yet to get Aadhaar cards. She urged parents to get Aadhaar cards for such children by visiting the nearest post offices.
Ms. Swaroopa asked officials to be cautious about Aadhaar cards held by people from outside the state and the country. They may scan the QR code of Aadhaar cards to ascertain the genuineness. Strict action should be taken by the police against people furnishing forged documents to avail Aadhaar or holding fake Aadhaar cards.
Unique Identification Authority of India Deputy Director Gulshan Kumar Singh and Assistant Manager Mohammed Musab participated through video conferencing. Additional Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Naik, Deputy Director of Public Instructions Maruthi and others attended the meeting.

Confirming Saturday's arrest in Dharmavaram town of Sri Sathya Sai district, Superintendent of Police V. Ratna on Sunday (August 17) briefed the media here, attesting that 42-year-old Kotwal Noor Mohammad, residing in the town for 15 years, was actively connected to the Pakistan-backed social media groups, circulating jihadi propaganda. The SP, along with Deputy SP (Dharmavaram) U. Narasingappa, disclosed that Noor Mohammad was initially thought to be a passive member, but he turned out to be an active participant in discussions intended to glorify extremist ideology. She said that the police seized the accused's mobile phone and some literature linked to the jihadi campaign in Saturday's predawn raid. 'This Dharmavaram incident is a clear proof as to how social media platforms are being mishandled and misused to negatively impact youth and gullible minds at the local level by the terrorist groups,' the SP said. Although Noor Mohammad was held on Saturday (August 16), the real investigation 'has begun now,' Ms. Ratna said, adding that the seized mobile had been sent to forensic laboratories to unravel his 'digital footprint' to map his network. She did not rule out the possibility that the accused might have acted as a recruiter or sympathiser beyond the Sri Sathya Sai district. The SP said that the case was booked under the stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Immediately after the arrest, Noor Mohammad was produced before the Kadiri court in the district and was shifted to the Kadapa Central Prison on a 14-day remand. 'We are waiting for the forensic revelations which will expose the depth of his involvement in the cross-border terrorism activities,' the SP said.

Minister for Home, DGP perform ‘Bhoomi Pooja' for new Nakkapalli police station
Minister for Home V. Anitha, along with Director General of Police Harish Gupta, performed 'Bhoomi Pooja' for a new police station building in Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district on Sunday (August 17). They were accompanied by Visakhapatnam Range DIG Gopinath Jatti, Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha and other senior officials. The new building is being constructed with CSR funding from the Hetero Group. Speaking during the programme, the Minister highlighted the rapid industrial growth in the region, with major investments such as the ArcelorMittal Steel Plant and the Bulk Drug Park. She said Nakkapalli is poised to become a major industrial hub in the near future and it is necessary to have a well-equipped police station to ensure safety and law enforcement readiness. She emphasised that under the NDA government, the Police department has received support in terms of infrastructure, basic amenities and technology. She also announced that the department will be receiving new vehicles next month. Ms. Anitha reiterated that the NDA government had created 'Eagle' to combat the ganja trade, and the launch of the 'Shakti app' to support women in distress. She also stated that the Police department is increasingly adopting technology with extensive installation of CCTV cameras across the State. DGP Harish Kumar Gupta expressed gratitude to Hetero Group chairman Bandi Parthasarathi Reddy for supporting the construction of the new police station. He pinned hope that the new facility would be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. District SP Tuhin Sinha added that the existing, outdated police quarters at the site are being demolished to make way for a modern and model police station designed to meet the growing needs of the area in line with its industrial development. WB police recover Bula chowdhury's stolen Padma Shri, Medals within 48 hrs
Kolkata, Aug 17 (UNI) The West Bengal Police made a major breakthrough recovering Padma Shri award and other medals of famous former swimmer Bula Choudhury within 48 hours after her ancestral home at the Hooghly in West Bengal was burgled, official sources said today. The Padma Shri medal and its badge, six gold medals of SAF Games, Tenzing Norgay Award, several international awards and mementoes won by Bula Chowdhury during her swimming career were found missing from cabinet after her ancestral home in HindMotor in the Hooghly district was burgled in her absence on August 14/15. The Criminal Investigation Department of West Bengal Police took the case on Saturday and after intensive search operations in the locality last night detained one suspect and he acknowledged his involvement in robbing the house. Sources said the District Police would reveal everything about the theft and its recovery of the medals later today. Fifty-five-year-old Chowdhury, now living in south Kolkata, was informed by her brother regarding the burglary on Friday and she rushed to her Hooghly home and broke down after seeing all her medals were stolen. Even all the bathroom fittings and Laxmi-Bhandar were also robbed. The family then filed a complaint with the Uttarpara police station and a CID investigation was ordered. Chowdhury started her swimming career at age of nine and began long-distance swimming. In 1989, she crossed the English Channel and won the 81-km (50-mile) Murshidabad Long Distance Swim in 1996, and in 1999 she crossed the English Channel again. In 2005 she became the first woman to have swum across sea channels off five continents—including the Strait of Gibraltar, the Tyrrhenian Sea, Cook Strait, Toroneos Gulf (Gulf of Kassándra) in Greece, the Catalina Channel off the California coast, and from Three Anchor Bay to Robben Island near Cape Town, South Africa. In her first national competition, at age nine, she dominated her age group by winning six gold medals in six events.
