BJP leader Shone George files plea seeking to attach Veena's assets in CMRL pay-off case
Speaking to reporters in Kochi, Shone said he would approach the Kerala High Court seeking a probe by central agencies, including the CBI and ED, based on SFIO's findings in the case.
Shone alleged that the SFIO's investigation revealed misappropriation of Rs 282 crore in CMRL, of which Rs 2.8 crore was paid to Veena and her company, Exalogic Solutions.
'There must now be a disgorgement process so that the misappropriated money can be recovered. The Companies Act allows for this. The assets of the accused, including Veena, should be attached. I have submitted a petition to the SFIO to that effect,' he said.
According to Shone, the quid pro quo behind CMRL's payments to Veena must be investigated.
'I firmly believe the payments were made in connection with sand mining at Thottappally,' he added.

Bad news for Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra, power couple charged with fraud worth...
Bad news for Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra, power couple charged with fraud worth... In yet another trouble for the power couple, Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, have been charged with defrauding a Mumbai-based businessman of Rs 60 crore. One businessman Deepak Kothari has alleged that he had given them Rs 60.48 crore for business expansion around 2015-2023, but he alleged that they spent it on personal expenses. The case is linked to loan-cum-investment deal for the celebrity couple's now-defunct Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. What is the case? Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, said in his complaint that one agent, Rajesh Arya introduced him to the couple, who were then directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping and online retail platform. At that time, the power couple held 87.6% of the company's shares. Kothari claimed the Bollywood couple initially sought a loan of Rs 75 crore at 12% interest. He was later persuaded to route the funds as an 'investment' to avoid higher taxation, while being assured of monthly returns and repayment of principal. How was the money transferred? Following the assurances, Kothari claimed he transferred Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, followed by another Rs 28.53 crore under a supplementary agreement in September 2015. The total amount was allegedly credited to Best Deal TV's HDFC Bank accounts. Kothari eventually filed a complaint after he alleged that repeated attempts to recover his money through the mediator, Rajesh Arya, failed. The investigation into the case has been handed over to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) as the amount involved exceeded Rs 10 crore.

Power contractors threaten stir over ‘illegal' connections in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Licensed Electrical Contractors Association (KSLECA) urged the state government to immediately restore electricity connections to buildings that had applied before April 4, when a Supreme Court order restricting power supply to properties without approved plans or Occupancy Certificates (OC) came into effect. The association also warned that if their demands are not met, over 20,000 contractors, consumers, farmers, and organizations will stage a massive protest at Freedom Park on August 20 Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, C Ramesh, state president, KSLECA, said, 'We demand that while implementing the Supreme Court's December 17, 2024 order, it has to to exempt ongoing and completed building projects from mandatory Occupancy/Completion Certificates if temporary electricity connection is obtained before April 9, 2025.' According to Ramesh, the earlier KERC order of January 13, 2023, allowed electricity connections based on address proof and an approved plan, and was valid until March 13, 2025. He alleged that lakhs of applicants who had paid fees and prepared infrastructure before April 4 are being denied power. Other demands from the association include allowing First-Class contractors to handle operations and maintenance of 66/11 kV and 110/11 kV substations, speeding up connections for loads above 2 MW, ensuring ESCOM-funded compensations for contract labour accidents, and exempting certain agricultural electricity connections from a Rs 15,000 penalty under the Revised Accelerated Electricity Scheme notified on April 15. The association highlighted that despite assurances from the Energy Minister and senior officials after a protest on March 18, there has been no progress on several agreed points. They warned of a massive statewide protest if the issues remain unresolved, involving contractors, consumers, pro-Karnataka activists, farmers, and writers.

From cleaning, repairing of roads to Guru Tegh Bahadur sites: Bains pledges Rs 20L from discretionary funds, one month's salary as part of religious sentence
Complying with the direction of the Akal Takht, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has pledged Rs 20 lakh from his discretionary funds and one month's salary for the cleaning and repair of approach roads to sites associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur. In compliance with the order received from the Five Singh Sahibaan at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and with the grace of Guru Sahib Ji, after completing the assigned service, I went to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, offered Ardaas, and submitted a report regarding the completed service, Bains said. For the cleaning and improvement of the roads leading to Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, Gurdwara Kotha Sahib Patshahi Nauvin, and Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib, I pledge to contribute Rs 20 lakh from my discretionary funds and, as a personal offering, one month's salary, he said. Bains also said he would make every possible effort, personally and through the government for beautification works around other sites linked to Guru Tegh Bahadur. As a humble Sikh, I request forgiveness for mistakes committed knowingly or unknowingly in the past, and seek blessings to serve religion, the community, the nation, Punjab and society to the greatest extent in the future, he said. The Sikh clergy summoned Bains for organising entertainment performances, involving dance and music, at a programme held in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on July 24 to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth of the ten Sikh Gurus. The Punjab Language Department organised the event, held at Tagore Hall in Srinagar. At the meeting held at the Akal Takht secretariat, Bains apologised for the Srinagar event, which was seen as a deep affront to Sikh sentiments. The Sikh clergy asked him to immediately visit Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the birthplace of Guru Tegh Bahadur, in Amritsar, to inspect and ensure repairs and cleanliness on the approach roads and nearby streets. This is the first time that the Akal Takht mandated infrastructure development as part of a religious sentence.
