ALEA releases new details in Lewis Smith Lake boat crash
CULLMAN, Ala. (WHNT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has released new information on people injured in a two-boat crash on Lewis Smith Lake Wednesday morning.
ALEA said that Flint A. Davis, 22, of Leesburg, Ga, was the operator of the Nitro Bass Boat involved in the crash. The agency said Davis was injured in the crash and taken to Cullman Regional Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the operator of the Center Console involved, Gary W. Holcomb, 51, of Cullman, and a passenger, Luke H. Morgan, 30, of Albertville, were also injured in the crash. Both Morgan and Holcomb were taken to the UAB Hospital for treatment.
On Wednesday, ALEA identified two of the victims as 44-year-old John K. Clark, of Cullman, and 62-year-old Jeffrey C. Little, of Brandon, Mississippi. Both were thrown overboard from the Center Console and drowned. Their bodies were recovered near the Miller Flats area of Smith Lake.
ALEA said the two-boat crash also killed 58-year-old Joey Broom when he was hit by a Nitro Bass Boat. Broom was pronounced dead on the scene.
ALEA said Davis was the only one onboard the Nitro Bass Boat during the crash, while Holcomb, Morgan, Broom, Clark and Little were all on the Center Console.
Major League Fishing confirmed Wednesday that Davis, who was participating in the Tackle Warehouse Invitational on the lake at the time, had been involved in the accident.
The MLF tournament director told News 19 that the rest of the competition has been cancelled.

Boxer Nahir Albright told reporters that Davis headbutted him and left a large bump over his right eye. He said the incident took place when Davis and his younger brother, Keon, confronted Albright after Albright beat the oldest of the Davis brothers, Kelvin, by majority decision at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The weekend already had soured for Davis, who on Friday weighed in 4.3 pounds more than the maximum for his WBO lightweight world title defense scheduled for Saturday. That led to the cancellation of the bout against Edwin De Los Santos and the WBO title was stripped from him. Then came the alleged incident described by Albright. 'I was in my locker room and celebrated my victory with my team,'' he told reporters in a videotaped interview. '…Keyshawn and his little brother (Keon) came in and they started looking at me and was like, they saying something about his older brother. They was mad and he grabbed me, pushed me back. 'I'm grabbing his head. He moved his head towards my head.'' Then came the headbutt, according to Albright. 'So yeah, that's what happened,'' he said, the incident was not sparked by any exchange of words. '…Their locker room is right next door to mine, so I guess they heard us happy and all that kind of stuff, and they came in and started trouble.'' Of the confrontation, Albright told ESPN, 'Now we've got to settle that'' and said he wants to fight Keyshawn Davis in the ring. Davis beat Albright by unanimous decision in 2023 but the result was turned to a no contest after Davis tested positive for marijuana – a banned substance in Texas, where the fight was held. But late Saturday, the talk centered on controversy outside of the ring. For Davis, instead of being featured in the main event in his hometown of Norfolk, it all went awry. Davis, 26, showed up Saturday at the Scope Arena with his son of less than a year and cheered on his two brothers. Keon, 23, won his fight via a second-round TKO. But Kelvin, 28, got pummeled by Albright, who won the 10-round bout by majority decision. During the altercation, Albright said, his coaches eventually interceded. 'My coaches grabbed (Keyshawn Davis) and then I think security came in and grabbed him,'' Albright said. Later, Albright said, Davis charged after Albright's older brother. 'It just got crazy,'' he added. But Albright said he thinks Kelvin Davis, the brother he beat in the ring Saturday night, was trying to break things up. 'It's a little unfortunate, but nothing could take away the feeling of being a champion tonight,'' he said, referring to the vacant Silver US WBC Jr. Welterweight title he won. 'I ain't going to let nothing ruin my night.'' ESPN reported that the Davis brothers did not comment.

Man accused of shooting, killing family member in altercation, police say
LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Sheriff's Office said a man is accused of shooting and killing a family member Friday. LCSO said around 7 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting incident in the 17000 block of Kelley Drive in Athens. Upon arrival, LCSO said deputies found the body of Todd Robert Jennett, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Also at the scene was Michael Stephen Esposito, 63, of Athens, Alabama. After securing the scene, investigators began a thorough investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that Jennett and Esposito, his stepfather, had been involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. During the dispute, Esposito reportedly produced a firearm and shot Jennett multiple times. Michael Esposito was taken into custody at the scene without incident and was transported to the Limestone County Jail. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is encouraging people to be aware of a phishing scheme targeting Alabamians with text messages falsely claiming to be from the 'Alabama Department of Vehicles (DMV).' These messages are threatening to suspend the recipients' driving privileges and suspend vehicle registrations unless they click on a malicious link or provide personal information. Typically, these messages demand payment for non-existent traffic tickets. State officials have emphasized that there is no such entity as the 'Alabama DMV,' and driver licensing services in Alabama are handled by ALEA's Driver License Division. Vehicle registration is handled by the Alabama Department of Revenue, and license plates are issued through local county probate offices. 'Organized group' linked to 10 separate shootings in Tuscaloosa County 'Scammers are trying to create a false sense of urgency by threatening you and your drivingprivileges,' ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said in a statement. 'We urge all Alabamians to be cautious and remember that our Agency will never contact you this way.' According to ALEA, any unsolicited text message claiming to be ALEA or its Driver License Division should be considered suspicious and deleted.
