Parish's Summer Food Service Program begins June 2

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Human Services Department will begin the 2025 Summer Food Service Program on Monday, June 2, at multiple Calcasieu Parish locations.
Lunch will be served daily, Monday through Friday, until Friday, July 25. Sites will be closed on Thursday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday observance and Friday, July 4, for the Fourth of July holiday.
All children ages 18 and under will receive meals at no charge. No registration is required. Program acceptance and participation requirements are the same for all children – regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or disability. Meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis from 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at the following locations: DeQuincy Primary School, 304 McNeese St., DeQuincy.
First Baptist Church, 401 S. Huntington St., Sulphur.
JI Watson Elementary School, 215 N. Kinney Ave., Iowa.
Moss Bluff Middle School, 297 Park Road, Moss Bluff.
Sulphur Housing Authority, 312 Brooks St., Sulphur.
Sulphur High Ninth Grade Campus, 600 Willow Ave., Sulphur.
Vinton Elementary School, 1610 Hampton St., Vinton.
Ward 7 Recreation Community Center, 1615 Horridge St., Vinton.
W.T. Henning Elementary School, 774 Henning Drive, Sulphur.
Additionally, the following locations will also serve breakfast and lunch from 8-9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., respectively: Iowa High School, 401 W. Miller Ave., Iowa.
Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Center, 2009 Simmons St., Lake Charles
Westlake Multi-Purpose Complex, 1221 Sampson St., Westlake.
Westwood Elementary School, 1900 Sampson St., Westlake.
'The Summer Food Service Program plays a vital role in supporting children across our community when school is out,' said Felicia Davis, program c9ordinator. 'Last year, we served more than 22,842 breakfasts and 38,950 lunches — ensuring that thousands of children had access to nutritious meals during the summer months.'
All food must be eaten on site – no food can be taken out of the facility.

ANNISTON — Several school systems in Calhoun County are providing free meals to children 18 years and younger throughout the summer months, school officials announced. These programs aim to ensure that children have access to nutritious food while school is out. Below are the details for each school system's program. Calhoun County Schools During June, all elementary schools in the Calhoun County School District will provide free breakfast and lunch. Lending a hand during PTSD Awareness Month
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — With June being PTSD Awareness Month, and with Fourth of July right around the corner, we have to be aware of the people who might have underlying issues. The purpose is to raise awareness for people with invisible wounds and to provide them a platform to be heard. PTSD can happen to anyone – common symptoms can appear in the inability to handle crowds or becoming immobilized in high-stress situations. The Veterans One Stop is here to help ease these symptoms by doing exercises and activities to to help those suffering get back to a secure mental state. PTSD does not only apply to people who were in combat – it can affect anyone who has experienced a highly traumatic event. 'It's like family, and they'll tell you that it's like family,' Veterans One Stop Peer Support Cordinator Elmer Speights, Jr. said.' And when I speak to 'over here,' I speak to them. I say to all the families, all here, 'Let's get out.' We say a prayer. We give out some announcements, and we invite everyone to come by and eat.' When veterans feel at home and seen by the other people who went through the same experiences they did, it helps them relax and calm down – which can be one of the best methods of healing. With this being said, Veterans One Stop wants the public to pay extra attention to those around them this PTSD Awareness Month – to hopefully help those silently suffering with their mental health. Binghamton Move Out Project donates 33,000 pounds of items
VESTAL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Year-round residents in need are about to benefit from the unwanted goods left behind by departing Binghamton University students. The Binghamton Move Out Project collected over 33,000 pounds of items from BU students who graduated or went home for the summer. On Tuesday, nearly 50 local nonprofits were able to do some free shopping for things that might benefit their clients. Items included food, clothing, books, children's toys, and other contributions. Nick Martin, Associate Director of the Q Center on BU's campus, says the project relies upon more than 150 volunteers and the generosity of the students. 'I would hope, as a person that lives in the community, that this helps to show the community that students are ready to do a lot of great things for the community. They just need some extra support sometimes,' said Martin. The Move Out Project will hold another shopping day on Wednesday.
