One Kerry medallist returns from the Munster Strokeplay in Cork
Rounds of +7 and +6 gave her a +13 total as Riverdale of Nenagh's Margaret Forde was the winner on +11 with Megan Ahern from the host club second on +12.
In the Mens' events, meanwhile, there were three Top 10 Kerry finishes in two events.
The Senior Mens saw Damien Fleming finish fifth overall after the 54 holes on 19 under par as despite being in a good position of fourth on 16 under after the first 36, he never caught fire in the playoff.
John Walsh from the hosts was the winner on 24 under as Castleisland's Aidan O'Connor had an impressive performance in reaching the play-off and finishing eighth overall on 13 under par. The other Top 10 finish was in Saturday's Intermediate Mens event where Tralee's Mark Lucey finished 10th overall.
Lucey was fourth overall after the first 36 holes on six under par, three off the lead, but his challenge fell away in the final 18 as he slipped back to one under overall. The event was won by Morty Ahern from the host club on 15 under par.
Tuesday, July 8 last, meanwhile, saw the conclusion of the Bob Casey Memorial Inter-Club Strokeplay Championships as for the first time in six years a team from Deerpark was victorious.
Their 'Green' team of James Fleming, Gearóid Cronin, Connie O'Sullivan Jnr, Brian McCarthy, Niall O'Loughlin, Seán O'Mahoney, James Foley, Nathan Cronin, Mark O'Shea and Paddy Murphy recovered from losing the opening night in Tralee to win the three remaining nights in Castleisland, Deerpark and Listowel to win from Tralee C as the win prevented a fourth successive Tralee success in the competition.
The competition also meant the confirmation of the Kerry Intermediate and Junior Mens sides for the Munster Inter-County Championships in Ardnacrusha on the weekend of August 31 and September 1 with the two sides made up of the following:
Intermediate Mens
1. Con O'Sullivan Jnr (Deerpark)
2. Mark Lucey (Tralee)
3. Michael Creagh (Tralee)
4. Eamonn Sheehy (Tralee)
5. Dan Broderick Jnr (Tralee)
6. James Fleming (Deerpark)
Sub. Danny O'Leary (Tralee)
Junior Mens
1. Mark O'Shea (Deerpark)
2. Brian McCarthy (Deerpark)
3. Sean O'Mahoney (Deerpark)
4. Nathan Cronin (Deerpark)
5. Reece Sugrue (Tralee)
6. Alan O'Connor (Tralee)
Sub. Adam Ricken (Castleisland)
This weekend, of course, is another big occasion for Damien Fleming as he represents Ireland once more on the Men's Team for the European Team Championships in Lucan in Dublin.
It comes after his appearance in the World Cup Final win over North Portugal last year as he will be playing in this event 20 years on from when his Deerpark club-mate Derry McCarthy captained Ireland to victory in this same event in Holland in 2005.
The County Board wishes Damien all the best this weekend along with the two Irish teams (Mens and Ladies) taking part.

End of an era as Thurles Racecourse announces it is to close with immediate effect
On Friday, owner Riona Molony announced the family's decision to retire from racing at the Tipperary track. An iconic venue steeped in history and tradition, Thurles Racecourse has long been a cornerstone of National Hunt racing in Ireland. The first recorded race-meeting at Thurles took place in 1732 and it has been in the hands of the Molony family since the early 1900s. Riona's late father Pierce took over form this father Doctor Paddy Molony in 1974, and together with their family they have worked hard at the business for the last 50 years. Over those years many Cheltenham Festival winners have also won and raced at the track, including two-time Champion Hurdle winner Honeysuckle, Champion Chase winner Newmill and Gold Cup hero Sizing John. Sadly it is also the place where jockey Michael O'Sullivan took a fall that cost him his life in February. Thurles was due to host 11 fixtures in the 2025-26 season, but will not hold any more meetings. It is the first racecourse in Ireland to close since Tralee shut is doors in 2008. Speaking about their decision, Ms Molony said: 'It has been an honour and a privilege for our family to have run Thurles Racecourse, and I am officially announcing our retirement today. "We are very proud of the immense contribution our family has made to racing and we are most grateful to our extended racecourse family, our dedicated staff, generous sponsors, loyal patrons and the wider racing community for all your support. "Horseracing is part of the fabric of our family, and we have been very fortunate to have made so many great friends within the industry over the years. My family and I look forward to going racing with you again, as spectators. 'Since my beloved husband Pierce passed away in 2015, with the help of our four daughters Patricia, Helen, Ann Marie and Kate and our wonderful staff, we've managed to keep the show on the road and I know he would be very proud of us for that. The girls all have their own families, careers and lives to live. Ever increasing industry demands and the cost of doing business has also been a major factor.' She added: 'We're going to enjoy this time together and relax now the decision is made and the news is out before we consider our options.'

Kerry pitch and putt teams come up short at Munster U-16 inter-county championship
The 'Gold' team of Aodhan O'Halloran, Fionn McMonagle, Thomas Keane and Tommy Daly fought hard to keep Kerry's winning run since 2017 going but their combined total of seven over par was only good enough for third place behind the winning Cork 'Red' side and Tipperary 'Blue' who finished in second. The Kerry 'Green' and 'White' teams acquitted themselves well on a tricky Crosshaven course in Cork as there was some consolation in Aodhan O'Halloran and Fionn McMonagle finishing second and third in the Boys 8-12 category respectively with scores of one and two over par. The 'White' team's players were Ruairí Turbinski, Joey Blake, Sean Stack and James Gould while the 'Green' team was represented by Fionn O'Callaghan, Thomas O'Sullivan, Diarmuid Lyons and Daniel Quinlan. Elsewhere, the National Men's Strokeplay Qualifiers took place last Friday in Tralee with the places for the finals in St Annes in Cork decided. Joining Tralee's Jason O'Regan, who is automatic this year as the 2024 Senior runner-up, are Damien Fleming of Deerpark, who shot 17 under par, Darren Goodall (Tralee) 14 under, Jason Cregan 13 under, Michael Conway with -8, Jamie Blake -7 and Chris Gibney of Listowel who got the last spot on countback with -6. The Intermediates were headed by Michael Creagh on -8 as his club-mate Tony Blake shot -7. Deerpark's Ger O'Connor was next on -5 followed by Tralee's Padraig Hobbart on -4 with Deerpark's Cillian Courtney and Listowel's Bobby McCarron both shooting -3. Reece Sugrue claimed the final spot on countback with -2. The Junior event also needed countback to decide the last two spots, meaning all three grades needed a trawl through the cards, Robbie Harnett of Deerpark and Gavin Dillane of Tralee (both +5) were successful in the countback as the two players ahead of them were Ajay Barrett of Listowel on +2 and Robbie O'Connor of Tralee on +3. This weekend the action takes place on the Bank Holiday Monday with the Paul O'Sullivan Memorial Scratch Cup in Tralee. Contact 087 6403417.

Louth athlete Lorcan Forde Dunne shines on European stage in scorching Skopje heat
The youngster represented Ireland at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia, where he had to cope with exceptionally hot conditions of 35 degrees. Nevertheless, he produced a superb performance when finishing eighth against some of Europe's top young athletes - a proud moment for Lorcan, his family and the club. Meanwhile, back home last week in Drogheda's Lourdes Stadium at the Louth U20 and Senior Championships, Ace AC's Adam Russell took on both the 200m and 400m events in the Senior Men's programme. His efforts were rewarded with a bronze medal in the 400m, a fantastic achievement at Louth senior level. Sean Daly also competed well in the Senior Men's 100m, continuing to show strong form. Jamie O'Reilly won the U20 1500m and placed third overall in the Senior race after a well timed and disciplined run. In the Women's 800m, Ace AC athletes dominated from start to finish after U18 athlete Sholah Lawrence won both the U20 title and the overall race, followed by U17 athlete Chloe Cooney in second and Ciara O'Connor - also only U18 - impressing in third, making it a clean sweep for the club. In the Men's 800m Adrian Black took bronze in the O45 category. Adrian has now medalled in this event three years in a row, testament to his consistency and dedication. Neil Culhane and Shea O'Donnell represented Ace AC in the 1500m at the National AAI Games last week and both athletes competed strongly, with Neil securing a podium finish in third place with a time of 3:59.68. Shea followed closely behind in fifth, crossing the line in 4:01.65 after a determined race. On Sunday in Tullamore, the National Senior Inter-County Championships brought success for a youthful Louth Senior Women's team, who secured a national bronze team medal. Ace AC athletes Daniela Adebola, Sholah Lawrence, Chloe Cooney and Eimear Cooney all played their part, competing across various events and representing the club with distinction.
