Kruttika Desai steps into a new avatar as Bua Maa on upcoming drama ‘Meri Bhavya Life'

Time of India28-04-2025

After leaving a mark on audiences with '
Uttaran
', seasoned actor
Kruttika Desai
makes her much-awaited comeback to with its upcoming show '
Meri Bhavya Life
' that dares to challenge deep-rooted stereotypes around body image and societal expectations. At the heart of the story is
Bhavya
(played by
Prisha Dhatwalia
)—a plump woman with a razor-sharp mind and a rock solid self-worth. An accomplished architect, Bhavya is left humiliated at the mandap by a man who only saw her as a ticket to power and status. As she rebuilds her life with talent and tenacity, fate ties her to her polar opposite - Rishank (
Karan Vohra
), the poster boy for protein shakes, gym workouts and self-obsession, refusing to see beyond the surface.
Essaying the part of Rishank's daadi bua, Kruttika has been roped in the world of these opposites. Abandoned by her husband years ago, she rewrote her pain as sacrifice and used it to gain
emotional control
over her family. She hides behind silence and tradition, but every word is a move, every tear a trick—graceful on the outside, she's the storm that keeps the fire of chaos burning. Her ultimate endgame is total control of the household. But with Bhavya stepping into the picture, is
Bua Maa
's empire on the verge of collapse?
Kruttika Desai playing the role of Damayanti Thakur also known as Bua Maa in' 'Meri Bhavya Life' shares, 'Having been in the industry for so many years, I've played my share of strong, complex women.
So, stepping into the role of Bua Maa felt familiar in some ways - The emotional depth, the silent control, the ability to influence without saying much, it's a space I've worked in before, and as an actor, it comes naturally to me now.
But what sets Damayanti apart is the sharpness in her stillness. We've all seen the kaleshi bua on television—the dramatic, loud, interfering relative. But Bua Maa isn't loud, she's calculated, restrained, and far more dangerous because of it. She's not just creating chaos; she's surviving through it, feeding off it to stay relevant. That nuance made her different from anything I've done before. It didn't require overthinking—just a quiet, lived-in performance rooted in instinct and experience. And portraying her became even more special because it marks my return to the channel, that feels like home."

Opening up about her connection with the cast, Prisha shared, 'I bond with everyone very naturally, to be honest—touch wood. Whether it's my onscreen family or Rishank, who is my co-actor Karan Vohra, I gel with him very naturally.' Although there's an age gap between them, Prisha shared that the bond she has with Karan is truly special. 'I don't even know where it comes from, especially considering we're not from the same age group, but still, there's something very special in the connection. I see a good friend and strong support system in him,' she added. Karan, according to Prisha, has become something of a mentor and guide. 'There are times when I sit with him during our breaks, and we talk about so many things. He shares a lot about the industry, how things work, and how to handle different situations on set. He's just amazing.' While Karan may be a pillar of support, Prisha's warmth extends to the rest of the cast too. 'I also bond really well with my on-screen mother, father, sister, and, of course, Hiten Sir. These are the people I mostly spend time with on set, and I always feel very charged up and positive when I'm around them.' Still, she admits that her deepest connection is with Karan due to the amount of screen time they share. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'So honestly, I can't name just one person. But since Karan is my co-actor and someone I spend a lot of screen time with, I feel I can really rely on him. He fits in perfectly, and we share a great comfort level. So please don't give me a diplomatic tag (haha), but it's true that I genuinely have a very good relationship with most of my co-actors. They are all such good energy-givers, and I love them all equally,' she laughed. For Prisha, these relationships are more than just off-screen camaraderie—they deeply influence her performance. 'My bond with everyone on set has grown stronger over time, especially because of the kind of response they gave to my performance and the valuable inputs they shared. It really helped me tap into my character better,' she reflected. One of the most impactful experiences for her has been performing with senior actor Iqbal Khan, who plays her father in the show. 'Whenever I do my scenes with Iqbal Sir, it feels so real. He's such a natural actor that it honestly feels like I'm talking to my real father. That kind of energy and passion from a co-actor makes all the difference.' As a debutante, Prisha approaches her work with humility and curiosity. 'Since this is my debut show, I'm here mainly to absorb and learn as much as I can. I'm like that little kid who would sit next to a senior actor just to listen to them talk and learn from their experience. Be it Kruttika Ma'am, Hiten Tejwani Sir, or Disha Ma'am — I enjoy learning from them all.' Summing up her experience so far, she said, 'I have a lot of respect for each and every person working around me, both as artists and individuals. I keep learning from them every day, and I always try to incorporate those learnings into my work.' With her grounded mindset and emotional intelligence, Prisha Dhatwalia is not just embracing fame—she's building a career rooted in connection, gratitude, and passion.

Sheetal Maulik: Jewellery reflects your personality; that's why I started designing my own

In the current unpredictable entertainment industry, everyone wants to explore alternate sources of income. Television actress Sheetal Maulik, currently seen in Meri Bhavya Life, decided to turn her creative instincts into a side business of designing and making jewellery. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sheetal began this journey during the COVID-19 lockdown, thanks to a nudge from her mother-in-law. Sheetal recalls, 'My daughter was very young at that time, and I wasn't working much then. There weren't many shows that were being shot. So my mother-in-law suggested I keep myself busy and start something of my own. That's when I thought of this idea, and she even connected me with people in Calcutta who helped me with materials and designs. She really encouraged me to do this.' The actress further adds, 'Being a woman, I've always loved jewellery. But I could never find exactly what I wanted to wear, so I thought — why not design it myself?' she says. 'I learned how to make jewellery from the internet. With a little creativity and some guidance, I figured it out. Once I started wearing them, my friends began asking for pieces too.' A passion turned into a business for the actress. She shares, 'Orders started coming in, and I earned a good amount. Though acting takes most of my time now, I still get a lot of orders. It's not just craft, it's an emotion. It reflects your personality. When you wear something you made, it feels special.'
