'This Is What Happens…': Nishikant Dubey's Swipe At Priyanka Gandhi's 'History' Lessons On Gaza
'This is what happens when you haven't studied history," Dubey wrote in a post on X.
On Saturday, Priyanka termed as 'shameful" and 'disappointing" the central government's decision to abstain from the UN motion to protect civilians and uphold humanitarian obligations in Gaza.
Dubey, however, countered her arguments by claiming that India gave recognition to Israel under previous Congress regimes.
In her post on X, Priyanka contended that the Centre was refusing to take a stand when 60,000 people, mostly women and children, had been killed and the entire population of Gaza were being 'confined and starved to death".
She alleged that not only was India being silent on the Gaza issue, it was 'cheering on" the Israeli government as it attacked Iran and assassinated its leadership.
'It is shameful and disappointing that our government has chosen to abstain on the UN motion for the protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations in Gaza… This is a tragic reversal of our anti-colonial legacy. In fact, not only are we standing silent as Mr Netanyahu annihilates an entire nation, we are cheering on as his government attacks Iran and assassinates its leadership in flagrant violation of its sovereignty and complete contravention of all international norms," she wrote.
Dubey, however, pointed out that it was under Jawaharlal Nehru's leadership that India gave 'undeclared recognition" to Israel by opening the country's first mission office in Mumbai in 1950. He alleged that former prime minister Indira Gandhi had used Israeli weapons and took Mossad – Israel's spy agency – in the 1971 war against Pakistan. He added that it was the Congress government that opened the first declared Israeli embassy in Delhi in 1992, while the Palestine embassy 'finally opened" in 1996.
On the matter of UN resolutions, too, he asked: 'Do you know that from 1948 to 2014, India either voted in favor of Israel or abstained 56 times in the Security Council."
The Wayanad MP further questioned how India can 'abandon" the principles of the Constitution, and the values of the freedom struggle 'that led the way for an international arena based on peace and humanity".
'There is no justification for this. True global leadership demands the courage to defend justice, India has shown this courage unfailingly in the past. In a world that is increasingly divisive, we must reclaim our voice for humanity and stand fearlessly for truth and non-violence," she added.
INDIA-PALESTINE RELATIONS
India was one of the first countries to recognise the Palestine State in 1988, and its support for the Palestinian cause has been an integral part of foreign policy. In fact, in 1974, it was also the first non‐Arab state to recognise the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the 'sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people".
According to the website of the Representative office of India in Ramallah, Palestine, India has 'consistently supported, co-sponsored, and voted in favour of UN General Assembly Resolutions securing the right to self-determination of Palestinians (2020), urging Israel's compliance with legal obligations viz. ICJ's Construction of the Wall Opinion (2004), and its status as a non-member State at the UN (2012)".

'In 2011, India also voted in favour of Palestine becoming a full member of UNESCO. The NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine was established under India's Presidency during the VII NAM Summit in New Delhi in 1983. As a member of the Security Council, India continued to voice its support for a negotiated solution resulting in a sovereign, independent, viable and united State of Palestine, within secure and recognized borders, at peace beside Israel as endorsed in the relevant UNSC and UNGA Resolutions," the website stated.

Bengaluru, Jun 15 (UNI) Asserting a relentless political campaign against the Congress, Union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday vowed not to rest until the grand old party is removed from power in Karnataka. "I will not rest until Congress is completely sent home," Kumaraswamy declared while addressing party workers at the JD(S) membership drive launch event at the party headquarters here. Sharpening his attack on the state government, Kumaraswamy questioned the Congress administration's priorities. Referring to the Rs 92 crore sanctioned for Cauvery Aarti, he said, "Why is such a huge amount needed? Is it only to perform aarti for the faces of Congress leaders?" He mocked the Congress party's claim of transforming Bengaluru into Singapore, pointing to civic failures during recent rains. "We've seen their model, just look at the condition in Sai Layout when it rained. Is this the Singapore they promised?' he asked. Accusing the government of failing to generate employment, Kumaraswamy also took a swipe at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, saying he behaves like a CM "only on the steps of Vidhana Soudha," citing the recent Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, in which 11 people lost their lives, as an example of administrative negligence. The JD(S) leader expressed confidence that a JD(S)-BJP coalition government would come to power in the future. "Let there be no doubt about our alliance. There is no confusion between BJP and JD(S). Seat-sharing is my responsibility. Strengthen your constituencies. All decisions will be taken at the Centre," he said. He dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's claims that JD(S) is finished and underlined the turnout at the party event as proof of continued grassroots support. "Such misinformation campaigns will not work. Today's gathering is the answer." Kumaraswamy said he accepted the role of Union Minister out of compulsion, acknowledging that party organisation had slowed down. However, he praised JD(S) Youth Wing President Nikhil Kumaraswamy for taking the lead to revive the party. "Earlier, he hesitated to visit constituencies. Now, he is actively reaching out to party workers." Rejecting criticism that JD(S) is a family-run party, Kumaraswamy took a jibe at the Congress leadership. SC Commission seeks explanation from Lalu for insulting Dr Ambedkar
Patna, June 15 (UNI) The Bihar State Scheduled Caste (SC) Commission sought explanation from RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav for allegedly insulting pioneer of the Indian Constitution, Dr Baba Saheb Bheem Rao Ambedkar. The Commission has sent a letter to Yadav asking him to explain for disrespecting Ambedkar within 15 days. The Commission has also warned Yadav for registering a case against him under SC-ST Act. The letter stated that the disrespect exhibited by Yadav on the occasion of latter's birthday went viral on social media. The insult of Baba Saheb has hurt the sentiments of the entire country not just one section. Notably, a video related to Lalu Yadav's birthday went viral in social media showing a RJD worker presenting Yadav a picture of Dr Ambedkar. In the video it is seen that the picture of Dr Ambedkar is kept near the feet of Yadav, who however does not even touch Baba Saheb's picture. Meanwhile, JDU spokesperson Niraj Kumar accused Yadav of nurturing feudal mentality, saying that dalits and oppressed sections of the society were always targeted under Yadav's rule. Reacting to the insult of Dr Ambedkar by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to dare oppose Yadav for it. India must stand with international law and UN charter: Ukraine Minister
Ukraine is ready for direct summit-level talks with Russia, said a senior Minister here, adding that the role of India and other countries should be to facilitate talks, rather than seek to mediate at this point. In an interview to The Hinduahead of the G-7 summit outreach sessions in Kananaskis, Canada, on June 17, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are both special invitees, Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya said that he couldn't confirm if the two leaders would hold bilateral talks, but hoped that India would choose to support 'international law and the UN charter', when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. 'India is the largest democracy on the world's political map... And if India wants to continue to build up its image as a democratic state, then India has only one choice, of being on the side of the international law and UN Charter,' Mr. Kyslytsya said when asked about Ukraine's expectations from India. Asked about an Indian role in mediating the conflict given its ties with both countries, Mr. Kyslytsya said that in the present scenario, Ukraine would welcome any country that facilitates talks like the Istanbul process where two rounds of Russia-Ukraine talks have been held. 'India has a history of centuries and traditions in the area of peaceful resolutions. So it's for India to say if it is ready and willing to play a role,' he said, expressing gratitude for the humanitarian assistance provided by India to Ukraine thus far. He also said that India-Ukraine trade could be built in a number of areas from food to high-tech advanced weaponry, especially drone technology that has been enhanced since the Russian invasion in 2022. No change in stance Despite requests from Ukraine during Mr. Modi's visit to Kyiv in August last year, and another Modi-Zelenskyy meeting in September, New Delhi has not thus far changed its position on the Russia-Ukraine war, or calls to stop importing Russian oil under Western sanctions. In February, India abstained from another resolution at the UN General Assembly calling for a ceasefire, and its imports of Russian oil reached record highs of 1.8 million barrels last month. Asked this week about India's position, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in an interview in Brussels to news portal Euractiv that India has strong ties with both Russia and Ukraine, but that 'every country, naturally, considers its own experience, history and interests'. Pointing to Western inaction over Pakistan's occupation of Kashmir since 1947, Mr. Jaishankar said that 'if [Western] countries – who were evasive or reticent then – now say 'let's have a great conversation about international principles', I think I'm justified in asking them to reflect on their own past,' he said, when pressed about why India does not criticise Russia for being an 'aggressor' in Ukraine. 'Ceasefire first' The Ukrainian Minister said Mr. Zelenskyy will declare clearly at the G-7 summit outreach that Ukraine is prepared for summit-level talks between Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelenskyy, although it is unlikely Russia would accept that immediately. 'The Russians have a different logic, that Ukraine must surrender first, and then after we surrender, they will commit to a summit meeting and a ceasefire. Our logic is the reverse. We say, let's have the ceasefire that will contribute to a conducive environment for the meeting of the presidents,' he said. Speaking about 'Operation Spider Web' in which Ukraine attacked several Russian military bases and destroyed Russian strategic fighter jets using 117 drones smuggled into Russia on June 1, Mr. Kyslytsya said Ukraine's military operation had 'debunked' all the 'doomsday scenarios' that its forces were failing in the war by carrying out the complex attack. However, he accepted that the drone attack was not 'enough to change the tide and to change the situation in the battlefield. 'We are clearly dealing with the war of attrition [by Russia], and neither of the two sides, either in terms of resources or capacities, is able to achieve a major breakthrough,' Mr. Kyslytsya told The Hindu on the sidelines of a conference on conflict resolution in Oslo last week.
