12 city stretches to be no-hoarding, no-advertisement zones: KMC

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided not to allow hoardings and advertisements within 50 m of 12 key intersections in the city. It reiterated the no-advertisement zones in the city, which include the central business district, the Maidan, Park Street, Camac Street, East Kolkata Wetlands, Rabindra Sarobar, and Subhas Sarobar.
Hoardings will not be allowed in green zones, which include Biswa Bangla Sarani between Kolkata airport and Science City, and the route from the airport to Nabanna via Chinar Park, VIP Road, Major Arterial Road through New Town, Maa flyover, and AJC Bose Road flyover.
The notification also laid out conditions for the display of temporary banners during Durga Puja and other festivals while restricting the size of flex banners used for temporary display.

The 12 crossings from where hoardings will be removed are Gariahat, Ballygunge Phari, Park Circus Seven Point, Moulali, Rajabazar, Ultadanga, Shyambazar Five Point, Hazra, Exide, Golpark, Taratala, and Rashbehari. Hoardings currently exist within 50 m at most of these intersections.
Installation and display of hoardings have been prohibited within 25 m of buildings of archaeological, architectural, aesthetic, historical, or heritage importance.
No advertisement will be allowed within 15 m of statues, minarets, or pillars of heritage importance. In places of religious significance, hoardings will not be allowed within 10 m. "No signboard or advertising hoardings shall obstruct natural light or ventilation of buildings," the notification read.
Hoardings will be allowed from seven days prior to Mahalaya and up to seven days after Bijoya Dashami. For Kali Puja, hoardings will be allowed three days prior to the festival and till three days after the festival.
No bamboo scaffoldings will be allowed at median verges and road dividers. The height of bamboo scaffolding/structure installed to mount advertisements will have to be restricted to 22 ft.
"No such advertisement shall obstruct the visibility of existing street hoardings, bus shelters, LED monopoles, and other advertisements permitted by KMC," the notice said, adding, name of the puja committee concerned needs to be mentioned in a conspicuous manner.

Patna: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved two key proposals ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for Oct-Nov – a scheme to facilitate festive-season travel for migrant workers and the establishment of digital libraries in all 243 assembly constituencies. According to the cabinet note, around 6,000 migrant workers and other residents travel daily from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan to Bihar during the festive months —specifically from Durga Puja to Chhath, and again during Holi. To address this seasonal rush, the govt will operate private buses under the public-private partnership (PPP) model along inter-state routes for the next five years. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) will sign agreements with private bus operators to run services during this period. "Under the scheme, the transport corporation will pay incentive money to the private bus operators at the rate of Rs 150 per seat during the peak period and Rs 300 per seat during the lean period, as per the agreement terms. For the current financial year (2025-26), Rs 7.27 crore has been earmarked. The cabinet also gave administrative approval for Rs 94 crore as the establishment cost for chief minister's Digital Library Scheme, under which a library will be set up in every assembly constituency to support job-seeking youth and students. Each digital library, spread across 300 square feet, will offer access to syllabus content, advanced learning materials and preparation resources for competitive exams such as JEE, NEET and CLAT. Users will also be able to access employment-related information from district employment offices and job portals. The libraries will be equipped with high-speed internet and 10 computers each. The Patna district digital library will serve as the state-level model with 60 computers, while regional models will have 50 computers. Government has fulfilled election promise of offering pattas: Bharath
Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath on Tuesday said the State government had fulfilled the promise made before the elections by offering 'pattas' to the people living in Gudem Kottala locality in Kurnool. Mr. Bharath said that giving pattas to the people of the locality was a promise made by IT Minister Nara Lokesh during his visit to Kurnool as part of his 'Yuvagalam Padayatra' before the 2024 general elections. The pattas were given to the beneficiaries as per the GOMs 30 issued in January by the NDA government. Mr. Lokesh issued pattas to the eligible beneficiaries in his Mangalagiri Assembly constituency and Kurnool, which Mr. Bharath represents. Kurnool is the second place where the pattas were issued as per the GO. A total of 150 beneficiaries were given pattas in an acre land in Ashok Nagar locality of the city. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bharath said that the beneficiaries were given pattas by the Revenue Department and soon the same will be registered on their name. Mr. Bharath said Collector P. Ranjith Basha and Joint Collector B. Navya played a key role in helping the beneficiaries get the pattas and added that the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) will lay roads, dig canals and provide power supply to the locality. The Minister said that the people of the State faced severe hardships during the five year regime of the previous government and the NDA government is fulfilling all the 'Super Six promises' it made before the elections. He asserted that the TIDCO houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by the end of this year. Mr. Bharath also participated in various development programmes in KMC limits. He performed bhumi puja for the renovation of the Gadiyaram hospital, beautification of Pocket Park, and inaugurated the petrol filling station that would be jointly operated by the Indian Oil Corporation and the KMC at Joharapuram. He said that the corporation should not completely rely on taxes for taking up development works, but should search for alternate sources. For generating revenue through alternate sources, the KMC had started the petrol filling station and urged the people to extend their support by using it. He said that the area in front of Anand Theatre earlier used to be a hub for anti-social activities and has now been remodelled as Pocket Park. Meanwhile, Mr. Bharath participated in various welfare programmes sponsored by several individuals.

Adani meets CM at Nabanna, discusses ‘future projects'
1 2 Kolkata: Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani called on Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna on Monday, and the two had a meeting that went on for over 40 minutes. Sources indicated that they discussed future projects in the state. This was the first meeting between Banerjee and Adani after the state govt decided to float a new tender for Tajpur port, for which a letter of intent had been signed by Bengal govt and Adani three years ago.
