Magda Szubanski broke down on Sunday night as she gave an emotional acceptance speech via video call during her 2025 Logies Hall of Fame induction.
The comedian, 64, was unable to attend the event in person because she is immunocompromised as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 cancer.
But that didn't stop the Kath and Kim star from bringing the audience to tears with laughter and sadness as she graciously accepted the honour.
'I am so sorry I cannot be there. I do have a good excuse this time, normally I don't come because I can't be bothered getting out of my pyjamas,' she said.
'This time there really is a reason. I want to say first of all, let's get this out of the way, I have not been awarded this honour because I have the cancer.'

'I am getting this because of 40 years of hard work. Lobbying, bribing, threatening, whatever it took. Finally it has all paid off,' she joked.
Magda then struggled to contain her emotions as she thanked her friends, fans, and supporters.
'The love and support that I have felt, like a tsunami, from the Australian public, it has been overwhelming and I have to tell you, it really helps,' she began.
'I did not think I was going to cry,' she then added as she teared up.
'When I go online and look at those messages, every time, my heart lifts. And I feel that much stronger to deal with the cancer.
'So thank you for the love that you are pouring my way, I really feel it.'
A wave of A-list stars stepped out to help induct Magda into the Hall of Fame on Sunday night.
Today Extra co-host David Campbell introduced the segment, with Magda being the godmother to his daughter Betty, seven.
Stars who shared their tributes included big names like Hamish Blake, Dannii Minogue, Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, and Poh Ling Yeow.
The Irwins, Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, and Kathy Lette were also among many others who shared kind words for the Australian star.
Marg Downey accepted the award on her behalf.
Magda is the fifth woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since it was introduced in 1984.
She has joined the likes of Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and Rebecca Gibney.
Two months ago, Magda revealed she had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
She appeared on camera with a shaved head to reveal the shocking news after beginning her treatment for cancer.
'Hello, my lovelies. So, the head is shaved in anticipation of it all falling out in a couple of weeks because I have just been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive, very serious lymphoma,' she said.
Magda also revealed she has started treatment in Melbourne called the Nordic protocol, which treats mantle cell lymphoma by shrinking the tumours with a combination of drugs administered in five phases.
It's known as the Nordic regimen based on its clinical trial sites in Denmark and Norway.
The actress explained she will be 'lying very low' due to her weak immune system.

Boxer who stopped Princess Anne's kidnapper wishes he hit killer harder

A boxer whose punches stopped Princess Anne's kidnapper said his only regret was not hitting him harder after the 'mollycoddled' killer was set free. Ian Ball, 77, tried to kidnap Queen Elizabeth's only daughter for a £3million Royal ransom in March 1974 when he also shot dead four men on The Mall. But undeterred by Ball's threats, Ronnie 'The Geezer' Russell, now 77,drove past Anne's Royal limousine and stopped. He could see Ball with a gun in each hand so punched him three times before police finally arrested him. Ball has now been released from Broadmoor Hospital despite being unrepentant for his crimes. Ball claims that the kidnap was a hoax, despite admitting to the murder of two policemen and the kidnap plot at the Old Bailey in May 1974. He's even appealing his conviction, publishing a book and flying to Barbados and Japan on holiday. Ronnie gave his reaction to the news of the killer's release, told Daily Mail: 'I can't believe Ball's been released, it's ridiculous. 'I should have hit him a bit harder. Am I worried he might come and find me? Let's go further – give him my address, and I'll go one better this time. 'He's saying now 'None of it ever happened, there was supposed to be no gunpowder in the bullets'? It's absolutely impossible, because it did happen. 'He didn't come out with all that when he was sentenced at the Old Bailey – I was there, watching him plead guilty. He should be recalled to Broadmoor. 'When Ball was put away 'at Her Majesty's pleasure' we were all sure he'd never be out. I can't see any reason why he's been released, why a publishing company agreed to print his autobiography – or how come he's had benefits to save the money to go to Barbados. 'I'm going to Barbados later this year, but that's because I worked for it. I had to sell my medal. He's been mollycoddled, and it's been too easy for him.' Ronnie recalled the moment he saved the princess and said: 'I was lifting Princess Anne out of the car by her forearms, saying 'Now we're going to walk away, and he's going to have to go through me to get to you' I was a big lad. 'But Ball came round the car, and her husband Captain Mark Phillips pulled her back in. When I turned, he was stood there with his gun pointed at me (he'd broken a car window with the other one, and it was on the floor), shouting 'Come on Anne, you've got to come'. More Trending 'That's when I decided it was going to be me, or him. I had to hit him first, and harder. 'I was quite prepared to sacrifice myself for a member of the Royal Family.' Ronnie was invited to Buckingham Palace in 1974 for his efforts helping Princess Anne and received the George Medal. Other people including royal bodyguard James Beaton, shot three times, was awarded the George Cross, journalist Brian McConnell and Anne's chauffeur Alex Callender, both shot in the chest, the Queen's Gallantry medal – while PC Michael Hills, shot in the stomach, got the George Medal. Teddi Mellencamp breaks down in tears asking if cancer diagnosis was 'payback' for her affair

Former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp finally broke her silence regarding the alleged affair with her horse trainer, Simon Schroeder. While appearing on Tuesday's episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, the reality star, 44, opened up about the controversy that made headlines in late 2024. 'I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen,' Mellencamp explained. 'But what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes.' As her eyes welled with tears, the mother-of-three reflected on how deeply the situation continues to affect her, without confirming or denying whether the cheating scandal occurred. 'To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback,' she said, referencing her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer after her melanoma spread to her brain and lungs. 'Nothing goes without payment,' she added. 'However long it was … it was all over the press, it was everywhere. You're trying to minimize everybody's pain. You end up maximizing it. Because now not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids.' Court records confirm that Schroeder's ex-wife, Karli Schroeder, filed for divorce on December 30, 2024, just months after rumors of an affair began circulating. The documents, obtained by People, cited irreconcilable differences and revealed that the couple had remarried on April 14, 2024, after annulling a prior marriage in February. They officially separated on September 22, 2024. The allegations involving Simon emerged while Mellencamp was also going through a difficult period in her personal life. She had filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Edwin Arroyave, on November 1, 2024, also citing irreconcilable differences. Then, in February 2025, Mellencamp publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis, pausing the divorce proceedings. Despite everything, Mellencamp and Arroyave have remained close and have a amicable co-parenting relationship. The former couple share three children: Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5. 'I always knew he'd do the right thing by me,' she said during the podcast. 'If he wanted to, he could still be filing and finishing this divorce off right now. But… it was like, 'Yeah, of course. No, we'll wait. We'll wait until she's better, and then we'll figure it out.' When asked directly about her role in the scandal, Mellencamp didn't shy away from the wreckage left behind. 'So many people are hurt in the wreckage,' she said. 'But I can say this from knowing — the wreckage doesn't happen on its own. It never had happened to me,' she said. She acknowledged she was in a dark place mentally and physically during that period. 'I think I was so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment,' she admitted. 'I was so sick.' Mellencamp revealed she had been experiencing 'severe and debilitating headaches' for months before doctors discovered tumors. 'I was looking for comfort anywhere I can get it. I felt so much pain. I felt so sick. I didn't go to the doctors. I just felt some certain kind of way,' she said. 'The pain was so much that I had gotten to the point of like, almost hating waking up in the morning, which I had never been that kind of person.' Still, she emphasized that illness doesn't excuse her choices. 'I wasn't myself, but I'm not going to blame my alleged actions on the fact that I was sick,' Mellencamp said. 'But I do think a bunch of things happened in my life all around the same time, and I had zero control of any of them. Like I just was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.'

Major country star forced to cancel shows after cancer diagnosis leads to health challenges

Country band The Mavericks have canceled several upcoming performances after lead singer Raul Malo continues treatment for stage 4 cancer. The group recently pulled out of their scheduled appearance aboard the 2026 Outlaw Country Cruise, with Raul, 59, preparing to undergo hernia surgery linked to previous cancer-related operations. 'Hey everyone, due to Raul's upcoming treatment schedule, The Mavericks will unfortunately no longer be a part of the Sandy Beaches Cruise 2026,' the band wrote in a recent Instagram post. 'Next January, Raul will undergo hernia surgery to repair complications from a previous operation. 'The recovery time following this procedure will require us to take the first couple months of 2026 off for him to rest and recuperate, and hopefully be the final hurdle in his cancer treatment.' It continued: 'This decision was not made lightly, and we apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause. 'Your continued support means the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for your understanding during this time. 'Thank you for your patience and kindness. We hope to sail with you all again soon.' And fans of the country star rushed in to offer their support by offering 'healing vibes' and prayers. 'Definitely a wise decision, and health is paramount. I wish you all the best, recovery, and good health,' someone wrote. Another said: 'Sending healing vibes to him. Glad I was able to see you guys earlier this month.' 'The right decision. Sending prayers of medical wisdom, comfort, and healing,' one user shared. 'We love you, Raul. All prayers and healing for your recovery. Always with you. And love to you all,' someone else wrote. 'Praying for a complete recovery for Raul,' a comment read. The cancellations are the latest in a series of schedule changes since Raul revealed his cancer diagnosis in June 2024. He initially revealed that doctors had discovered two cancerous spots in his gastrointestinal system. The singer later underwent liver surgery in December 2024 and was briefly hospitalized again in February 2025 due to complications from that procedure, prompting further cancellations at the time, per Despite the diagnosis, Raul has continued to perform when possible throughout 2024 and 2025. In April, he confirmed that the illness had progressed to stage 4, but reassured fans he was staying optimistic. The Mavericks, best known for their genre-blending hits like Dance the Night Away, have not yet announced whether other tour dates will be affected.
