Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour hailed 'flawless' and 'show-stopping' by critics

Daily Mirror15 hours ago

While there may only be five UK dates left, fans can secure last-minute tickets by scouring resale platforms - and some may even bag a bargain
Beyoncé has taken London by storm with the launch of her Cowboy Carter tour earlier this week. Queen Bey kicked off the series of six electrifying performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - and the reviews are in.
Following her first show on Thursday (June 5), critics have showered the superstar with praise, with The Mirror awarding the Single Ladies singer a dazzling five stars, hailing her as being in 'top form.'
Our reviewer wrote: 'From flawless vocals and choreography and a seamless blend of bold stunts and spectacular visuals. In one section, the Texas native climbs on top of a gold-plated bucking mechanical bull as she gyrates and gets thrown from side to side without missing a note."
Meanwhile, Wales Online lauded the show for its 'intense dance routines, emotional moments, nine quick changes and a flying car,' adding: 'Beyonce's Cowboy Carter is likely the most complete performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season."
The Telegraph described the concert as a fusion of 'spectacle and seduction,' elaborating: "It was a show of spectacle and seduction, of bone-rattling volume and heart-beating musicality, of surprisingly hard-hitting politics and uplifting emotion."
viagogo and resale tickets
Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs.
Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
Writers at The Guardian were impressed by her rendition of Dolly Parton's Jolene, sang 'as if were a prelude to murder rather than a plea.'
However, not all feedback was glowing, reports MyLondon. The Independent suggested Beyoncé leaned too heavily on her stage production.
They said: "Ultimately it's left to a few show-stopping stadium gimmicks to make the evening: Bey flying over the crowd on a neon horseshoe on a thumping Jolene, or in a classic American car for 16 Carriages."
For those who prefer to make up their own minds rather than rely on reviews, there are still tickets up for grabs – if you know where to look, including on resale sites.

Hugh Grant's 'best film' is now available to watch for free on the BBC

A Hugh Grant classic from the 1990s is now available A beloved Hugh Grant rom-com has just become available on BBC iPlayer, offering viewers the chance to fall in love with the classic all over again for free, reports Surrey Live. Released in 1994, amid the golden era of British romantic comedies, the film was penned by renowned screenwriter Richard Curtis. ‌ Hugh Grant, who was a fresh-faced 32 year old teetering on the edge of quitting his acting career, found the script transformative and took on the leading role that would define his future. ‌ His performance turned him into a household name in Hollywood and opened the door to an eclectic mix of roles ranging from the American horror flick Heretic to the family favourite Paddington. One particularly impressed cinema-goer shared on Rotten Tomatoes: "This is absolutely the best film of Hugh Grant's career." One viewer reflected: "Simply a charming movie. It gives you a slice of life about love and relationships and makes you realise that it is never too late to go for the person you love amidst all missed opportunities in the past." An additional admirer remarked: "This film still holds up. Grant is at his absolute peak of charm before he reinvented smarm, Scott Thomas is divine, as and MacDowell's performance is surprisingly great on rewatch. And it includes one of the all time great gay moments in film history. No spoilers. ‌ "Richard Curtis is a godsend to modern romantic comedy fans because he is one of the few artists still able to get films produced within this genre and to write pretty funny screenplays too," praised another cinema-goer. Four Weddings and a Funeral was an absolute smash when it hit cinemas, starring Hugh Grant as the bashful Charles who falls head over heels for the lively American Carrie, played by Andie MacDowell. ‌ The film traced the tumultuous journey to love for Charles and Carrie, set against the backdrop of his friends' own romantic escapades. Boasting a stellar ensemble cast, Four Weddings and a Funeral featured the likes of Kristin Scott Thomas, Simon Callow, James Fleet, Rowan Atkinson, David Haig, and Anna Chancellor. It's rumoured that writer Richard Curtis drew inspiration for the screenplay from his personal encounters at weddings, including a proposition he declined, only to regret it later. ‌ The partnership between Grant and Curtis on Four Weddings and a Funeral marked the start of a fruitful collaboration, which continued with hits like Notting Hill in 1999, Bridget Jones's Diary in 2001, and Love Actually in 2003. Their collective efforts helped catapult British romantic comedies onto the world stage, setting a high bar that many subsequent films have struggled to reach. ‌ Just last year, Grant had the honour of presenting Curtis with an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards, a nod to the writer's impressive body of work. Before presenting the award, Grant quipped: "[My agent] sent me this very good script and it had a great part and it was called Four Weddings and a Funeral." I went to the audition and, frankly, I was rather good because the director Mike Newell liked me and wanted me and the producer liked me and wanted me and the money people wanted me. ""The only person who didn't want me and, in fact, took such an instant violent dislike to me, that he did everything in his power to stop me getting the part, was the writer, and it is this a***hole who we are going to honour tonight." His joke had the audience, including Curtis, in fits of laughter. Most recently, Grant reprised his iconic role as Daniel Cleaver for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, marking a return to romcoms.

Bruce Springsteen joined by Paul McCartney at Liverpool concert

The American musician was joined on stage by the 82-year-old Beatles star during the second of two shows at Anfield stadium on Saturday, with Sir Paul then providing vocals as the pair played the band's Can't Buy Me Love. Springsteen, 75, and his E Street Band are in the UK as part of his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which kicked off with three shows in Manchester last month. Footage shared on social media showed the surprised crowd cheering loudly as Sir Paul was introduced, before he then playfully pointed at Springsteen and the pair shared an embrace. Before he left the stage after their performance, Sir Paul addressed the crowd and reportedly said: 'Thank you, Scousers.' The two men have previously performed together on several occasions, most notably when Sir Paul delivered a headline set at Glastonbury in 2022. Announced as a surprise all the way from the east coast of America, Springsteen joined Sir Paul, who became the festival's oldest solo headliner, as they played hits Glory Days and I Wanna Be Your Man on the Pyramid Stage. In 2012, Sir Paul had joined Springsteen on stage at the end of the singer's headline slot at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London, but both stars found their microphones cut off before they could address the crowds after exceeding the curfew. Beginning his career in the 1960s, Springsteen has gone on to have 12 UK top 10 albums and four UK top 10 singles and is best known for songs such as Born In The USA, Dancing In The Dark and Born To Run. His Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which includes 16 dates across six European countries, will conclude in Milan, Italy, on July 3.
