
19-year-old charged with manslaughter after Sask. man died in Brittania
On April 3, around 5 p.m., Maidstone RCMP responded to the report of an injured man in a home in the community, police found the victim suffering from serious injuries, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a release Friday.
Police say the victim then was taken to hospital where he later died. His family has been notified.
On May 26, Trey Berland from Onion Lake Cree Nation was charged with one count of manslaughter.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 23 in Lloydminster provincial court.
According to RCMP, the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is also investigating the incident, as Maidstone RCMP had received a request to conduct a wellness check on the victim earlier that day.

An inquest into the death of David Gourley in Sudbury in 2018 will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. (File) An inquest into the death of David Gourley in Sudbury in 2018 will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. That announcement came this week in a news release from the office of Dr. Harry Voogjarv, regional supervising coroner of the North Region 'Dr. James Kovacs will be the presiding officer and Peter Napier will be the inquest counsel,' the release said. Gourley, 57, died on July 17, 2018, at the Health Sciences North Hospital in Sudbury, following an interaction with officers from the Ontario Provincial Police on July 12 of the same year. 'The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Gourley's death,' the release said. 'The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths. The inquest is expected to last four days and hear from approximately four witnesses.' The inquest will be conducted by video conference.
