Wednesday have released 'Elderberry Wine,' their first new song since 2023, along with a Spencer Kelly-directed music video. Stream it below.
A breezy, quasi-country track driven by Karly Hartzman's delicate vocals, 'Elderberry Wine' features a chorus backed by guitarist MJ Lenderman in which they sing: 'And the pink boiled eggs stay afloat in the brine/ 'Cause even the best champagne tastes like elderberry wine.'
In a statement, Hartzman revealed the song was inspired by a story involving the plant's equal benefits and consequences. ''Elderberry Wine' is about the potential for sweet things in life (love, family, success) to become poison if not prepared for and attended to correctly,' she explained. 'One time… my sister consumed them raw and it immediately induced vomiting. So 'Elderberry Wine' is ultimately a love song about creating just the right environment for fulfillment. There's a delicate balance that needs to be created, especially in love, for two lives to intersect without poisoning each other.'
The accompanying video was shot at The Bench, the second oldest bar in Greensboro, NC. Director Spencer Kelly explained that their aim was to capture the establishment's natural ambiance. 'On any given day, you'll find people there from all walks of life swapping stories beneath the music blasting overhead,' he said. 'We came in with some specific scripted scenes, but we wanted to capture the bar as authentically as possible — so everyone you see in the video is a regular, including Karly's dad, George. This video is a bit of a love letter to places like this, where the sense of community runs deep and the beers are always cold.'
Tonight (May 21st), the band will perform the track during their late night television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The episode will air at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
Wednesday also have two upcoming festival slots: Portland's Project Pabst and Las Vegas' Best Friends Forever (get tickets here).
The group's most recent album, Rat Saw God, was named by Consequence as the second best album of 2023. The following year, Wednesday contributed to a track on Cardinals at the Window, a benefit album that raised donations for those displaced by Hurricane Helene.

We Counted All of the Deaths in 'Wednesday' So You Don't Have To

Spoilers below. As supernatural mysteries unfold on Netflix's Wednesday, some characters have been dealt a deadly hand. The body count has steadily racked up throughout the series, either shocking viewers or validating suspicions about someone's demise. From monster attacks to fatal schemes, each death has made Nevermore Academy and the town of Jericho breeding grounds for depravity. In season 1, the main culprits were the ghost of Jericho's founder, Joseph Crackstone; his descendant Marilyn Thornhill (born Laurel Gates); and Tyler Galpin, a homicidal Hyde who tried to destroy Nevermore at Thornhill's behest. Season 2 introduces a new mysterious villain: an avian outcast who commands murderous crows to silence anyone uncovering their secret program, L.O.I.S., at Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. Short for 'Long-term Outcast Integration Study,' the project experiments on outcast patients to steal their abilities and give them to powerless 'normies.' With these adversaries, there's no shortage of danger in Wednesday Addams's world. As we await the second installment's final episodes—and the third season—here's a recap of every major character who has met their end on the show. Galpin, Jericho's former police chief, lands on the avian's hit list as he and his friend Carl Bradbury investigate the L.O.I.S. program. Concerned about Tyler, his shapeshifting Hyde son who was admitted to Willow Hill, Galpin asks Wednesday to help with the case. But Galpin and Bradbury's probing goes a bridge too far, prompting the avian's murder of crows to kill them and gouge out their eyes. The avian outcast isn't the only threat in season 2: After Pugsley Addams accidentally turns a deceased Nevermore scholar into a brain-eating zombie named Slurp, he tries to keep the monster hidden. He furtively brings Slurp on a camping trip where Nevermore students compete against a group of young Phoenix cadets to stake their claim on the campsite. Kruger, the Phoenix cadet master, is chagrined when his troupe is defeated and tries to get revenge by ambushing the Nevermore campers at night. Instead, he falls into Slurp's clutches in Pugsley's tent and becomes zombie food. Thornhill falls victim to a monster of her own making. In season 1, she was revealed as the puppet master who unleashed and controlled Tyler's murderous Hyde persona. Both were arrested, and Thornhill was sent to a correctional facility while Tyler was admitted to Willow Hill. In season 2, Willow Hill's chief psychiatrist, Dr. Rachael Fairburn, reluctantly transfers Thornhill to the psychiatric center to help with Tyler's rehabilitation. However, Tyler resents Thornhill for exploiting him and causing his capture. When Wednesday and Uncle Fester break into Willow Hill and inadvertently free Tyler from confinement, he transforms into a Hyde and vengefully skewers Thornhill with his claws. Dr. Fairburn suffered a gruesome fate near the end of season 2, episode 4. Slurp, who was sent to Willow Hill after killing Kruger, gobbled up the psychiatrist's brain as all the outcasts at the hospital escaped their cells and ran amok. Stonehurst, a former normie professor at Nevermore and the founder of L.O.I.S., became a Willow Hill patient following a psychotic break. He meets his doom when Slurp attacks him after devouring Dr. Fairburn. Before feeding on Stonehurst, Slurp speaks for the first time, grunting, 'Hello, old friend.' This suggests that the two have an undisclosed history, which could be revealed in part 2. Rowan was an outcast at Nevermore who had telekinetic abilities. Believing that Wednesday would destroy the academy—inaccurately depicted by his mother's 25-year-old prophetic drawing—he tries to murder his pigtailed schoolmate in the woods. But he's intercepted by a Hyde, later revealed as Tyler Galpin, who disembowels him. When Mayor Walker finds new information about Marilyn Thornhill and her family's nefarious history, he asks Donovan Galpin, the sheriff at the time, to meet up. But he's struck by a car before he can tell Galpin what he uncovered. Mayor Walker survives the hit-and-run, but he's killed at the hospital when an unidentified assailant, presumably Thornhill, unplugs his life support. Dr. Kinbott was a local psychotherapist in Jericho whose student patients included Wednesday, Tyler, and Xavier Thorpe. Wednesday starts to suspect Dr. Kinbott of orchestrating the Hyde attacks, but is proven wrong when the monster violently slaughters the therapist. Tyler, acting as the Hyde under Thornhill's orders, murdered Dr. Kinbott to prevent her from uncovering his secret identity and derailing Thornhill's scheme. Whether Principal Weems should be included on this list is debatable, but we'll get to that shortly. At the end of season 1, Nevermore's headmaster uses her shapeshifting powers to impersonate Tyler and get Marilyn to confess her crimes. After Principal Weems reveals herself, Marilyn quickly injects her with nightshade poison, causing her to collapse and foam at the mouth before appearing to take her last breath. But the shocking scene wasn't enough to convince fans that Principal Weems really died. As it turns out, she's not gone for good and will return as Wednesday's spirit guide in season 2, part 2. That means we'll get to see two powerhouses, Gwendoline Christie and Lady Gaga, grace our screens when Wednesday returns on September 3.

Piers Morgan said he thought a picture of Donald Trump wearing kneepads was a real image of the president preparing for his 'high stakes' summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that he deleted the photo when he realized it was fake. The British tabloid host went on to claim that the satirical pic of Trump merely came across his social media feed and he immediately reposted it alongside well-wishes to Trump. Needless to say, Morgan faced a flood of mockery for posting the mocked-up photo of the president, something he acknowledged after deleting the image. Hours before Trump actually touched down in Alaska for the summit with Putin, which is part of an attempt by the president to secure a ceasefire agreement in the bloody Ukraine-Russia war, Morgan – who has enjoyed a long (and fraught) friendship with Trump – posted an altered picture of the president exiting Air Force One. Apparently believing this was a live photo and that the president had just landed in Anchorage, the Piers Morgan Uncensored host delivered a message of hope ahead of Trump's meeting with Putin. 'As President [Donald Trump] lands in Alaska, I wish him the very best of luck in trying to secure an end to the horrendous war in Ukraine,' Morgan tweeted. 'It's refreshing to see a U.S. president who genuinely prefers peace to war.' With the picture showing a waving Trump donning bright red kneepads, it didn't take long for Morgan to get inundated with comments from other users on X asking him if he was aware that he had shared a meme that was mocking the president. 'Did you intentionally post a photo with Trump wearing knee pads or are [you] just an idiot? Evil or idiot? Which is it?' one poster pressed Morgan, prompting the presenter to chalk it up his tweet to ignorance. 'No.. I didn't see the kneepads on that pic, so just deleted and reposted with a different pic!' Morgan replied. In response to journalist Tara Palmeri wondering what had happened because the post was 'quickly deleted,' Morgan gave a more detailed explanation. 'I saw the pic on my feed and mistakenly believed it was a live one, and didn't spot the mocked up kneepads,' he replied to Palmeri. 'I couldn't understand why so many people were laughing and raging about it. Then I realized, deleted it and reposted with another pic. My words remained the same.' It is more than a bit ironic that Morgan fell for an obviously fake photo when it was just a week ago that he trolled NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo for getting duped by a blatantly obvious deepfake video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) purportedly delivering a House floor speech denouncing the Sydney Sweeney 'good jeans' ad. 'Oh dear @ChrisCuomo - perhaps spend less time b*tching about me and more time trying to spot obvious fakes,' Morgan tweeted at Cuomo alongside several laughing emojis. 'You got clip i didnt pay attn I wont block you for saying how easy that is, my yappy friend?' Cuomo responded at the time.

American Eagle Outfitters has made a bold, divisive bet on its 'sultry' Sydney Sweeney ads — but only after its commitment to the 'body positivity' movement started to falter, experts told The Post. A decade ago, the mall-based chain's 20-year-old lingerie brand Aerie famously took off as millennials shunned Victoria's Secret and its leggy, angel-winged supermodels in favor of Aerie's ads featuring ordinary women and diverse body types. But recently, American Eagle's flagging sales show that 'inclusive fashion' has its limits — especially after the election of President Trump, experts say. Meanwhile, however, left-wing critics seized upon the campaign's tagline 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans'. According to a survey this week by Axios and Generation Lab, 39% of young women and 42% of Democrats said the ads made them less likely to buy American Eagle jeans. Advertisement In the week of Aug. 3, foot traffic at American Eagle stores dropped 8.9% on top of a 3.9% decline the previous week — far steeper than drops at rival chains including Abercrombie and the Gap, according to Pass_by. 'When a brand sees momentum stall so sharply, it often reflects a reputational or cultural factor,' said James Ewen, vice president of marketing for Pass_by. 7 Aerie won market share from Victoria Secret's teen brand, Pink.
