Doue helps deliver drama as nine-man PSG beat Bayern to reach semi-final
The French treble winners had Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez sent off in the final stages but managed to oust the German giants in Atlanta.
Bundesliga champions Bayern, who lost Jamal Musiala just before half-time with a horror ankle injury, shared an intense and even battle with the Parisians.
Bayern had won their last four matches straight against PSG, including a 1-0 Champions League victory last November, before Luis Enrique's side hit their peak.
Players and nearly 67,000 spectators observed a minute of silence in honour of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car crash on Thursday.
It was an emotional moment, especially for a PSG side with five Portuguese players in the squad, including starters Vitinha, Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes.
Luis Enrique began with leading Ballon d'Or candidate Dembele on the bench, as he continues his comeback from a quadriceps injury, but Bayern playmaker Musiala was fit to start after a calf issue.
It was FIFA's expanded tournament's biggest heavyweight clash thus far and Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said on the eve of the game he would pay to watch a match he described as a 'perfect storm', because of the teams' similar high-pressing, attacking styles.
The air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz Stadium also produced the perfect conditions for a pulsating game, lit up by supremely talented dribblers on both sides, as well as two elite goalkeepers in Gianluigi Donnarumma and Manuel Neuer.
Both sides exchanged early blows as Desire Doue fired narrowly wide and Donnarumma saved Michael Olise's low effort.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hit the side netting after a razor-sharp PSG counter before Donnarumma produced a fine save at full stretch to tip away another Olise effort.
Georgia international Kvaratskhelia forced Neuer into an excellent stop from close range after the effervescent Bradley Barcola floated a ball out to him on the left and the winger surged inside at pace.
Donnarumma was called into action as Aleksandar Pavlovic's low cross for Musiala eluded the German and nearly found the bottom corner, but for a swift reaction from the Italian.

The goalkeeper could do nothing about Dayot Upamecano's header from Olise's free-kick in first-half stoppage time but the French defender had strayed offside and it was disallowed.
England captain Harry Kane also came close for Bayern with a header that flew narrowly off target after fine work by Kingsley Coman.
- Musiala horror injury -
Unfortunately Musiala suffered a gruesome ankle injury before half-time as he fell following a collision with Donnarumma, with the goalkeeper appearing distraught in the aftermath.
Bayern's 39-year-old stopper Neuer produced a sensational save to deny Barcola early in the second half, as the French winger ran through on goal and tried to bend the ball into the far corner.
With 20 minutes remaining, Luis Enrique sent on Dembele to try and make the difference and avoid extra-time, which neither side needed at the end of a gruelling season.
Dembele came inches from doing just that when Neuer gave the ball away outside his area and the Frenchman lunged to try and roll into the empty net, but it trickled just wide of the post.
Eventually 20-year-old Doue found the breakthrough as Kane gave the ball away and PSG attacked in numbers.
Doue, who burst into the limelight in PSG's run to Champions League glory, worked some space on the edge of the box and flashed a low strike home at the near post.
Bayern were given hope as they hunted for an equaliser when PSG defender Pacho was sent off for a high tackle on Leon Goretzka after 83 minutes.
Kane headed home from an offside position before PSG substitute Hernandez was dismissed for an elbow.
Dembele hit the crossbar on the break as Luis Enrique's side clung on before sealing their victory through the French forward, who tucked home after Achraf Hakimi's run through and paid tribute to Jota by copying his video-gaming celebration.
PSG will face Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals on Wednesday at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Billy Loughnane takes first Group One win on Rebel's Romance
Irish jockey Billy Loughnane registered his first Group One victory when guiding globetrotting superstar Rebel's Romance to the Westminster 135th Grosser Preis von Berlin at Hoppegarten. A firm favourite of trainer Charlie Appleby, the seven-year-old began his Group One haul in this very race back in 2022 and three years on he was back in the German capital to strike for the eighth time at the highest level. Keen to keep things simple, Rebel's Romance was up with the pace throughout the early stages, keeping close tabs on Andre Fabre's Junko and when straightening for home he showed his class to bravely hold off the French challenger. It was in fact a fourth Group One success on German soil for the well-travelled dual Breeders' Cup Turf hero who could return to Del Mar for another crack at the season-ending showpiece, with Coral making him the 5-1 co second-favourite for a third Stateside victory. Appleby said: "It's great for Billy, but more importantly great for the horse who keeps sparkling on all continents. "To have him carry on at the top level is fantastic for Sheikh Mohammed and I see this as a pre-cursor for the Canadian International at Woodbine and then the Breeders' Cup." Loughnane (19) has ridden eight winners from 12 rides for Appleby this season and it is fitting his first success at the top table comes in Germany, having notched his first Group-race triumph at Cologne in April last year. It caps a memorable weekend for his teenage pilot who also won the Sweet Solera Stakes in the royal blue of Appleby and Godolphin aboard Dance To The Music at Newmarket on Saturday. He told Sky Sports Racing: "Words can't describe something like that and it is something Billy has dreamt about all his life, it was amazing. "I had an even-money favourite in the first but I was more on my phone watching Billy and we can't thank Mr Appleby and George Boughey and people like that enough. His agent Tony Hind has done a super job and they've all really catapulted Billy to the next level but as a dad, I'm proud as punch. "When it was talked about he might be riding Rebel's Romance he rang me straight away and was like a child in a sweet shop and he said 'I'm on this horse of Mr Appleby's and it's going to be great'. I told him just to relax as a lot can happen between races. "I've spoken to him on the phone and he's absolutely elated. I was the first one on the phone and he's bouncing and for a young fellow, he's a super young man. What he's done in a short space of time, I've helped him get started, and now that's it off he goes. "It's awesome for our house and as a family, his mum is here racing today and we're all absolutely cock-a-hoop for him."

Rodgers: Idah will thrive with competition up front
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claims Adam Idah will be better if he can get some competition up front. The champions eased to a 2-0 win at Aberdeen thanks to goals in either half from midfielders Benjamin Nygren and Reo Hatate, but Idah struggled to make an impact in the centre-forward position. The 24-year-old was expected to kick on after Kyogo Furuhashi left in January, but Daizen Maeda took on the mantle of Celtic's main goalscorer after moving inside from a wide position, although the Corkman still finished on 20 goals. Given Celtic have since lost Jota to a long-term injury and sold Nicolas Kuhn, Maeda has been needed out wide, while Idah has been handed a chance to seize the number-nine role. "There's no doubt that we need to reinforce the top line," Rodgers said. "There's no doubt. "I'm really pleased with where we are structurally in defensive numbers. We've got a squad from our back line to midfield that can cope domestically and cope in the European competition. So I'm really pleased with that aspect. "But I think we need competition at the top end of the field. "For Adam, he's a big, honest boy. He was at his best here when was really challenging with Kyogo for the position and that's something that is important for us to get. But in the meantime, he will work hard and he'll always be that reference for us." Asked if Idah needs a goal, Rodgers said: "Listen, you're a striker at Celtic, you have to be strong mentally, you've got to score goals, of course. But I've a lot of faith in him. "He really needs that real competition beside him. And I think that's when you then get the most out of him. "He didn't quite score, but he worked very hard and he's given his all and it will get better as the season goes on." Celtic's three goals this season have all come from midfielders, with Luke McCowan's late winner against St Mirren followed by Nygren getting off the mark for the club. The 24-year-old netted 15 goals for Nordsjaelland in the Danish top flight last season as well as scoring twice in his first four internationals for Sweden. Rodgers said: "He's a player that can play as an eight, a 10, he can also play off the side. But his intuition is to get in the box and score goals and that's why we've brought him in." Rodgers added: "Any time you come to Pittdorie, it's always tough games. To come and play with that authority and personality in the game, that was pleasing."
