Kapil Sharma's security to be reviewed after recent attacks on Kap's Cafe in Canada

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police will soon review the security of comedian Kapil Sharma, said an officer on Friday. Sharma's cafe in Canada was attacked by unidentified men on Thursday. He has also allegedly received threats via social media through audio clips from members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. On Thursday, unidentified men shot at Kap's Cafe on 85 Avenue, Scott Road, Surrey, leaving behind bullet holes and shattered glass. Opened by the comedian on July 4, the cafe has endured two attacks already. Earlier on July 10, another unidentified person fired a gun outside the cafe near the same spot. No injuries were reported in these incidents, said the officer.
In light of these two attacks, the Mumbai police said they would soon review security for Sharma. 'Senior officers of the Mumbai Police will take a call immediately about it. Plainclothes policemen are already deployed around Sharma wherever he shoots,' said a senior officer from the Mumbai Police.
On Thursday, a man named Goldy Dhillon, claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post.
'Jai Shree Ram. Sat Shree Akaal, Ram Ram to all brothers. The firing that happened today at Kapil Sharma's Kap's Café in Surrey has been claimed by Goldy Dhillon, affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang,' read the post.
He further threatened to target Sharma in Mumbai. 'We called him, but he did not answer the call, so we had to take action. If he still does not respond, then we will take the next action in Mumbai soon.'
On Friday, an audio clip by one Harry Boxer, who is believed to be working with Lawrence Bishnoi and settled abroad, went viral on social media. He said the motive behind the attack was that Sharma had invited actor Salman Khan to his studio.
'Whoever calls the actor or is with Salman Khan, we will target him,' warned Boxer, who has several cases against him.
In the July 10 firing, Harjit Singh Laddi, who is affiliated with the militant organisation Babbar Khalsa International and is wanted in the country, claimed responsibility via a social media post. He said the attack was in retaliation for Sharma's distasteful jokes that hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
Since the suspects claimed to have called the comedian, the Mumbai Police will also look into whether any threat calls and messages were sent to the actor's phone.
'We have taken the threat very seriously and will provide him with adequate security,' said another officer.
The crime branch team picked up five people from the Cotton Green area on Wednesday. They were identified as Sunny Kumar, 26, Ravi Angrez, 23, Rahul Singh, 27, Anuj Kumar, 28, and Aditya Kaushik, 23, all residents of Haryana, said the officer. The police officers are questioning them and have recovered three revolvers, one pistol, and 51 cartridges from them.
Following Thursday's attack, they got a second remand till August 12. 'Bishnoi gang operates from Haryana, so we are questioning the accused very carefully. They claim they had come to sell the weapons. We are checking all the details,' said the officer.
A team headed by Rahul Rakh of the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai Virar police had arrested seven men, allegedly including a Lawrence Bishnoi gang member. Two country-made pistols, eight live cartridges, ropes, and eight mobile phones were recovered from the vehicles they were using. 'We are questioning them too, and they are claiming they were about to carry out an armed robbery. On Thursday, we got to extend their police custody till 12,' said another officer.

Drone rumours trigger panic in UP village, 45-year-old Bhurey Singh serves as 'sky sentry'

LUCKNOW: In Puranpur, a rural tehsil in Pilibhit district, 45-year-old Bhurey Singh now stands on nightly vigil with a flashlight strapped to his bicycle and a thick wooden stick in hand. Hired two weeks ago by local residents, he serves as the village's "sky sentry". "They say thieves are using drones to plan robberies," Bhurey told PTI. "Whether it's true or not, we can't take any chances." His nightly patrol reflects a wave of fear spreading across more than 300 villages in at least a dozen districts of western Uttar Pradesh -- from the forest edges of Pilibhit to the urban sprawl of Ghaziabad. Since mid-July, cries of "Drone chor!" have echoed through village lanes at night, replacing the usual silence of the countryside. Shadows dart across rooftops, wooden lathis are clutched tightly, and families stay awake long past midnight in fear of unseen threats from above. Villagers speak in hushed tones of mysterious drones flying after dark, allegedly scouting rooftops and identifying weak entry points. In many communities, drones have become ghosts in the sky. Sometimes real. Often imagined. Always feared. As the panic grew, so did state attention. Last week, the matter was reviewed in a high-level law and order meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He issued a stern warning against those spreading rumours or flying drones without authorisation. "Those creating fear using drones -- or spreading misinformation -- will be charged under the Gangster Act," the chief minister directed. Provisions under the NSA may also be invoked if necessary, he said. To regulate drone usage, police have been instructed to maintain a dedicated drone register. DIG Kalanidhi Naithani of Meerut Range directed all police stations in his jurisdiction to list drone owners and take immediate action against individuals operating drones after dark. He cautioned citizens against using drones "just for fun", warning of strict legal consequences for violations. Despite these measures, fear persists on the ground.

An AI-led 'scrollworthy' 'Mahabharata' for Indian Gen Z

Marrying ancient stories of India with the contemporary technologies of the world, is what Vijay Subramaniam , group CEO of Collective Artists Network , aims to do with his creation ' Historyverse ' beginning with "Mahabharata" tailored for social media adaptation is set to be India's first AI-led micro-drama comprising over 600 episodes, each lasting three to four minutes. This format is designed to resonate with the shorter attention spans typical of Gen Z and young millennials."For me, the real kick about the Historyverse is how do you marry technology, progress, creativity and formats, that's the trifecta, I don't think AI is the winner here, the fact that you can churn out stories at scale, at speed about the history of the country, AI is the enabler," Subramaniam told PTI in an said he has designed "Mahabharata" series in a way to capture the attention of the young audience of India as the country one of the largest youth populations in the world."We've the youngest youth population in the world so my lens is what the kids will see. So, I've to maintain the divinity and devotion of what my grandmother would like but I'm not making her watch it, I'm making the kids watch it, I'm making the rank and file of India watch it," he said."For me, serving spirituality in a palette that young India can watch is my target without affecting the divinity and the holiness of the text," Subramaniam choice of social media platforms like Instagram for releasing the series, Subramaniam said, is a conscious decision as he wants to transition traditional content into a format that can be "scroll-worthy".Subramaniam believes that there is an attention deficiency across the country so it is his goal to teach his daughter of mythological gods and goddesses in a format that she likes."If I need to get her (his daughter) out of Captain America and Iron Man and make her watch this, it has to be in that scroll worthy format. So, you're marrying the format, which is micro, you're marrying technology and you're managing and you're marrying rich storytelling, that's the holy trinity. When these three come together I believe magic will happen," he to the creator, him and his team relied solely on AI to generate everything from visuals to voice overs to music, and added that there are no CGI characters or any reliance on body mapping to create the series' characters."This is completely generated on AI; these faces don't exist on the internet and they don't exist in real life. So, these are unique faces," he said adding that they have recently launched India's first AI travel creator, first AI rock band, among other developing AI-series comes with its challenges, the producer-creator said, adding that in narrating an epic series like "Mahabharata" it is all about evoking emotion."Story telling is about getting the emotion right, it has to make you feel something. It's actually not that different, people over-intellectualize AI. We grew up watching the WWF, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Undertaker weren't real, or Captain Planet, Scooby Doo wasn't real, but they all evoked. Why did you follow them? You followed an emotion, you followed the character's emotion," Subramaniam from mythological themes, he plans to expand their horizons further and explore narratives surrounding prominent figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and various kings throughout India's history."We will start with mythology as a theme, then get into kings, then get into history of India, modern history of India. We're developing something for Shivaji, we're developing something for kings, for temple, it will be across the board, it won't be just one (type of show). Because I want young India to view our country from a different palette," Subramaniam added.
