CAIRO – 26 May 2025: Egypt's Ambassador to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, delivered formal invitations from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), scheduled for July 3.
Ambassador Moussa met with President Aoun on Monday, May 26, stressing the significance Egypt places on this historic cultural event. He highlighted the Grand Egyptian Museum as one of the largest cultural institutions in the world, showcasing a vast collection of unique artifacts that reflect the richness and depth of Egyptian civilization.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the strong and longstanding ties between Egypt and Lebanon, underscored by President Aoun's recent visit to Cairo and his meeting with President Sisi. They also discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and addressed recent developments in Lebanon and the wider region. Ambassador Moussa reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for Lebanon.
Later, the Egyptian ambassador also met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Their discussions focused on preparations for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee, set to convene later this year. They emphasized the importance of maximizing the outcomes of the committee's work to further enhance cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Ambassador Moussa also delivered President Sisi's official invitation to Prime Minister Salam to attend the GEM opening ceremony.

OPEN// Cabinet sets feed-in tariff for power generated from sewage sludge, biogas
CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – The Cabinet approved on Wednesday, during a meeting under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, a feed-in tariff of $0.044 per kilowatt-hour for electricity generated from sewage sludge or biogas extracted from sanitary landfills, as part of efforts to support renewable energy and waste-to-energy projects. Under the approved framework, project companies will be granted usufruct rights to state land for up to 25 years and are responsible for all permits, grid connection costs, and environmental studies. Power generated will be sold to electricity distribution companies through power purchase agreements, with payments in Egyptian pounds based on the central bank's USD exchange rate at the time of invoicing. The total installed capacity from such projects is capped at 80 MW over three years. The tariff may be reviewed after reaching this limit or at the end of the three-year period, whichever comes first. A joint committee headed by the Waste Management Regulatory Authority will oversee project evaluations and define technical and financial conditions for contracts, with representation from key ministries and agencies. FM: Israel's Continued Military Operations Will Lead to More Bloodshed
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said continued Israeli military operations will lead to more bloodshed and further worsen the catastrophic humanitarian crisis the Palestinian people are going through. During a phone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Wednesday 4, June 2025, the foreign minister asserted Egypt's keenness on pressing ahead with advancing ties between the two countries and elevating them to broader horizons. Abdelatty congratulated his Australian counterpart on her second term in office following the recent federal parliamentary elections in Australia. The foreign minister also underlined the positive momentum of the visit of the Governor-General of Australia to Egypt in April 2025. This year marks the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries, Abdelatty said. He also said he is looking forward to holding the next round of political consultations between Egypt and Australia, and beefing up investments and trade exchange between the two countries. Meantime, the foreign minister highlighted massive incentives offered by the Egyptian market, along with Egypt's great interest in luring investments in a number of priority sectors, topped by the field of green hydrogen. Abdelatty also reviewed the latest developments in the region, including the war in Gaza, underlining Egypt's mediation efforts in cooperation with the US and Qatar on this score. The only path to achieving sustainable peace is sticking to the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state, based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital, he concluded.
