‘Most spectacular things you're ever going to see': 2025 Saskatoon exhibition bigger than ever

CTV Newsa day ago
Saskatoon's Prairieland Park has been abuzz with activity thanks to the return of the Saskatoon exhibition.
This year marks a step up for the event. In addition to several new rides, the exhibition will run for eight days, as opposed to the six seen in previous years.
'We've got a much larger midway that's coming here. We're working with a provider that has decided to put us on their A circuit. So we've got a bunch of new rides,' Peter Jelinski, manager of signature events for Prairieland Park, said.
This upgrade puts Saskatoon in the same category as larger cities such as Calgary and Edmonton in terms of their role with the North American Midway. The NAM has different sets of rides and entertainment called circuits, which are matched to a venue depending on the size of the event.
'In the past, we were kind of a B-circuit city. They recognize Saskatoon as a city of growth opportunity, and so they've rerouted their entire tour so that we get their A-game, so that we can grow with them over the next few years,' Jelinski said.
This year also marks Saskatoon's very first drone show. Each night at 11, the sky above the event is brought to life. Jelinski says he'd recommend staying late to catch the show.
'I gotta say, it's one of the most spectacular things you're ever going to see,' Jelinski said.

JP Saxe cancels tour after low ticket sales

Social Sharing After pleading with fans to buy tickets, Toronto singer-songwriter JP Saxe says he's cancelled his series of concerts over sluggish sales and the high cost of life on the road. Saxe took to social media last week, saying that if he didn't sell about 20,000 tickets to his upcoming Make Yourself at Home tour within 48 hours, it would likely be cancelled. In a followup video, he says 2,000 more tickets were sold, but it wasn't enough to save the tour. Saxe says he's grateful for the extra sales, that tickets will be fully refunded and he's looking to make sure similar cancellations never happen again. The Grammy-nominated musician, best known for his 2019 single If the World Was Ending with Julia Michaels, was set to play more than 25 dates across North America, including Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver. WATCH | The official video for If the World Was Ending: The cancellation comes as live music faces mass pressure, compounded by a shaky economy, years of inflation and concert ticket prices that — in many cases — have skyrocketed by hundreds of dollars this year. "Those 2,000 tickets were a reminder ... of how wonderful it can be to ask for help and watch a community come together, and this really was the nicest the internet has ever been to me," he said in a video posted to social media platform TikTok.
