Ramsamy: Time to restore dignity; it's now or never for MCA to bid farewell to BN coalition
Contrary to the warning issued by the UMNO supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, MCA is already in a deep mess within BN let alone digging its own grave by leaving the coalition.
Although MCA has yet to make the final move, it is nevertheless clear that remaining in BN with UMNO's new-found ally DAP does not augur well for the grand old party of the Chinese.
If UMNO can embrace its bitter political enemy despite years of bitterness and animosity, then UMNO in the eyes of the MCA has become unreliable and not trustworthy.
Following the last general elections in 2022, UMNO was instrumental in not allocating ministerial positions for MCA and MIC.
The latest assurance of UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that MCA and MIC will be considered for ministerial positions seems to be less than honest.
Editor's Note: Zahid who is also the BN chairman had expressed confidence that MCA will remain in the coalition despite speculation of an internal push for the party to leave.
'There's no such thing (as MCA leaving BN). If it were happening, I'd hear it directly from MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong,' Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister said after launching the Port Dickson UMNO division delegates meeting over the weekend (June 15).
'Perhaps there are movements by certain quarters; I've been told about that but the decision of their central committee suggests otherwise.
In the Cabinet appointments, UMNO grabbed all the positions leaving MCA and MIC with nothing.
While there are reasons why the MIC is reluctant to leave the fold of the BN and more so the PH-led coalition, there is nothing for MCA to gain by prolonging its stay within the BN coalition.
By prolonging its stay in the BN, MCA is only digging its own grave. Leaving the BN means among other things restoration of dignity and the chance to climb out of the coffin.
MCA or the MIC cannot wait for the right circumstances to leave, decision must be made under the circumstances that present themselves.
It is now or never for MCA that is on the verge of drowning in the tears of sorrow and indignity. – June 17, 2025

PETALING JAYA : Former Umno leader Isham Jalil has expressed his desire to work with PAS to help elevate one of the party's leaders to become the next prime minister, citing their credibility in combating corruption and money politics. In a video posted on Facebook, Isham said Malaysia continues to face issues such as the awarding of government projects to tycoons in exchange for kickbacks, a practice he claims contributed to Umno and Barisan Nasional's defeat in the 2018 general election. He said such practices persist under the current unity government and could only be resolved through a specific law on political funding. 'This requires a prime minister who is willing to fight and comes from a party with a clean record. When you look at PAS, they appear to have the least corruption issues,' he said. Isham, a former Umno Supreme Council member, was sacked from the party in December 2023 following his criticism of the party, in particular, its cooperation with DAP as part of the unity government. The question of who should be PN's prime ministerial candidate in the next general election has long been a point of contention. In November last year, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin denied that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had been confirmed as PN's official candidate, insisting that PAS should lead the coalition. Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is among PAS leaders frequently mentioned as a potential candidate for the top post. However, several leaders from Bersatu and Gerakan have continued to back Muhyiddin as PN's choice for prime minister. On July 29, Hashim said PN would only decide on its prime ministerial candidate after successfully taking over the federal government.

Akmal plans Penang trip to ‘teach' apek how to hang the Jalur Gemilang properly
UMNO Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said he would visit a Penang hardware shop on Monday after its owner, Feng Jin Zhen, was filmed holding the Malaysian flag upside down. Although Feng claimed it was unintentional while measuring a pole, Akmal dismissed the explanation, calling the men involved 'traitors' and inviting supporters to join him at the shop to 'teach' them how to hang the flag properly, using the term ah pek for the two elderly Chinese men. 'I'm coming this Monday, and I want to invite all my friends from across Malaysia to come to this ah pek's shop at 12 noon. 'We'll go to his shop on the condition that we bring the Malaysian flag so we can teach these two ah pek how to properly put up the Malaysian flag. 'So, you two ah pek, wait for me to come and teach you how to put up the Malaysian flag,' Akmal said in a Facebook post. A 20-second video of a man holding the Malaysian flag upside down went viral after being posted on Facebook, later shared by Akmal, urging government action against them. The Merlimau assemblyman sarcastically questioned if the men were PWDs, referencing a past DAP claim that a similar flag incident involved a disabled person. Zahid: Strengthen agriculture sector through TVET
KUALA KUBU BARU: The country's agricultural industry needs to be strengthened through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to reduce dependence on food imports, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said the move was important to ensuring food security, including in the dairy sector, to meet the needs of the domestic market. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development minister, said the National TVET Council is prepared to channel assistance and collaborate with agricultural training institutions nationwide to implement the initiative, especially through high-tech courses to attract the interest of young people. "The existing modules are good, but in my view, integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) and modern teaching pedagogy into TVET is essential. Learning should comprise only 30 per cent classroom sessions, with the remaining 70 per cent conducted in the field to give students real-world exposure to agriculture," said Zahid, who is also National TVET Council chairman. He said this at a press conference after opening the groundbreaking ceremony of the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation's (PKPS) "Ehsan Dairy Farm" Dairy Cattle Complex in Kuala Kubu Baru today. Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and PKPS Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi. Zahid added that premium salaries should be offered to TVET graduates in the agricultural sector, rather than being tied to a minimum wage of RM1,700, to attract more young people to join the industry. He said TVET graduates holding the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level Three are eligible to receive a minimum salary of RM3,000, while those with SKM Level Five qualifications can earn up to RM5,000 a month. "SKM Level Five is equivalent to a diploma, and due to strong market demand and high employability, it can command a premium salary of around RM5,000. "This will certainly encourage young people to venture into this field," he said. On "Ehsan Dairy Farm", Zahid described it as a game changer for PKPS in its efforts to boost local dairy production, thereby helping to reduce the country's reliance on imports. "We import about 94.7 per cent of the country's dairy needs, which is worth RM4.6 million a year. "The prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), when tabling the 13th Malaysia Plan recently, highlighted that one of the significant burdens we face is the need to import food products, including dairy, from abroad. "This PKPS initiative is a proactive step towards significantly reducing our reliance on dairy imports," he said. The Ehsan Dairy Farm, expected to begin operations in early 2026, will be located on about 16.7 hectares at the Sungai Tengi PKPS Farm. It will house more than 1,200 high-quality Jersey-Holstein Friesian (F2) dairy cows from Australia, a country renowned for its expertise in industrial dairy farming.
