To commemorate its 25th anniversary, size? joined forces with adidas and BILLY's Tokyo for a three-way project called the 'Sapporo Collection.'
The line-up reinterprets the iconic adidas Munchen silhouette, with each partner contributing their own creative direction.
Each shoe is designed independently, reflecting the individual vision of its creator, even though they are presented as a collaborative effort. In homage to the UK's signature liquor, which has been widely accepted by Japanese culture, BILLY'S Tokyo takes its cues from whisky barrels.
The pair's rich brown upper, textured leathers and suede accents, which draw inspiration from brick buildings, evoke the cosiness and rugged elegance of aged whisky. On the side, a Japanese engraving of 'Sapporo' lends an artisanal and cultural touch. The blend of smooth and rough textures reflects the flavour of whisky, which is strong, but elegant.
On the other hand, size? employs a more symbolic strategy, alluding to the 2002 World Cup game at Sapporo Dome, where England defeated Argentina thanks to a historic goal from David Beckham.
The teal and red colourway of the shoe, as well as the gold Japanese engraving of 'Sapporo,' are inspired by this instance of cultural fusion.

PUMA x OPEN YY's H-Street sneaker
In their second joint collection, PUMA and Seoul-based fashion brand OPEN YY have given the classic H-Street trainer a new lease of life, while also providing a selection of stylish clothing.
This collaboration skilfully combines OPEN YY's unique, feminine-edged streetwear style with PUMA's athletic heritage.
The redesigned PUMA H-Street sneaker, a track and field classic from 2003 with origins in the late 1990s Harambee spike, is the focal point of the partnership.
With high-end nubuck overlays, open mesh underlays for breathability, and a detachable dual-branded tongue for multiple styling options, OPEN YY enhances the silhouette. Three crisp colourways – white, blue, and beige – will be offered.
In addition to the shoes, the collection includes a variety of 'elevated apparel' that aims to conflate fashion and performance. Running vests, fitted shorts, and simple sleeveless tops are examples of clothing that combines practical style with a feminine touch.
The campaign highlights movement, light, and self-direction, demonstrating how the collection effortlessly integrates with everyday life. PUMA ambassador Rosé attended the campaign's initial launch event in Seoul.

Selangor coach tells players 'to run, not walk'
KUALA LUMPUR: It was a football match that left Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi telling his players not to walk, but run. There was little action and no goals to see as Selangor and Asia Warriors, led by Japanese legend Keisuke Honda, settled for a zero-zero draw in a friendly at the MBPJ Stadium on Sunday. "The result was not good enough. I'm not happy. I'm completely not happy," said Japanese Kinoshi who was visibly frustrated at Selangor's lack of tempo and intensity. "We must improve our attack and show determination. Don't walk, run more, penetrate more," he added. Though there wasn't a single goal to see, for Kinoshi the match is less about the scoreline and more about building a cohesive team for the new M-League season. Kinoshi tested nearly every Selangor player available, from the newly signed Zach Clough to regulars like Alvin Fortes. The Red Giants dominated territory, but lacked sharpness in the final third agianst the Asia Warriors, a team filled with retired internationals. Honda, 39, who had played for AC Milan, said: "It was a difficult game for us, but Selangor have younger and better quality players. "Still, we defended well, didn't give them space or time, and kept the score at 0-0. That was the plan."

Baseball-Japan's Suzuki paved way for generation of players

Mandatory Credit: Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images (Reuters) -Ichiro Suzuki, a remarkable hitter with dazzling speed and arm strength, not only broke stereotypes during a career played across two continents but also blazed a trail for a generation of Japanese-born players in Major League Baseball. Suzuki, who proved his abilities despite starting his MLB journey at a relatively advanced age, became the first Japanese-born player inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Cooperstown, New York, on Sunday. Arriving from the Orix BlueWave of the Pacific League in Nippon Professional Baseball as a 27-year-old major league rookie with the Seattle Mariners, Ichiro wasted no time showing that his talent and determination translated on MLB diamonds. The slender Ichiro, with an unorthodox high leg kick to time his swing in the batter's box, turned routine ground balls into short infield singles with his speed down the line and made baserunners cautious with his strong arm in right field. Suzuki announced himself with an electric 2001 season in which he hit .350 to win the batting title with a rookie record 242 hits while swiping a league-leading 56 bases in sweeping Rookie of the Year and American League MVP honors. The batting title/stolen base double had last been achieved in 1949 by fabled trailblazer Jackie Robinson, the man who broke the color barrier as MLB's first African American player. Suzuki, who had won seven batting titles in a row and three straight Pacific League MVP awards in Japan, was just getting warmed up in the majors and quickly became a household name in Seattle. Following a strict daily practice routine and stretching regimen, Suzuki was a model of high level consistency during a 19-year MLB career that also included stops with the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins. He went on to post a record 10 consecutive seasons of at least 200 hits, reaching his zenith in 2004 when he stroked 262 hits to break an 84-year-old major league record set by George Sisler as he claimed another batting title with a .372 average. By the time he retired, Suzuki was a 10-times MLB All-Star who held the record for the most hits by a professional baseball player, including his time in Japan, with 4,367. Including his 1,278 hits for Orix in Japan, the claim has been made that with his major league hits total, Ichiro has surpassed the late Pete Rose, who is MLB's career hits leader with 4,256. "He's a guy who comes around once in a lifetime," Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, who was a teammate of Suzuki's when the Japanese outfielder played with the Yankees from 2012 to 2014, once said. "No one's ever seen anybody like him. And to be quite honest, we probably won't see anybody like him again." Suzuki, who during his career smashed the perception that only Japanese pitchers were good enough to excel in MLB, not only inspired a generation of players but also prompted clubs to more aggressively scout and sign hitters from Japan. His rise to stardom while playing in MLB opened the door for fellow Japanese hitters like Hideki Matsuyama while current Los Angeles Dodgers two-way standout Shohei Ohtani has also referenced him as an inspiration. "Growing up, Ichiro was for me the way that I think some kids, some people, look at me today," Ohtani told GQ magazine in 2023. "Like I'm a different species. Larger than life. #SHOWBIZ: Godzilla fans fete the monster as it turns 70
Godzilla has morphed over the years, but one constant is the devotion of its fans, who celebrated the Japanese monster's 70th anniversary at the pop culture convention Comic-Con. The Japanese studio Toho, which created Godzilla, maintains a calendar of events to celebrate the beast often called the king of monsters, and Comic-Con is on the agenda. Godzilla was born on Nov 3, 1954, with the launch of the first movie about it, directed by Ishiro Honda. "I am a very big fan of Godzilla," said Angela Hill, a teacher who traveled from Arizona to take part in Comic-Con, which this year featured events and displays celebrating Godzilla. One of the world's largest celebrations of pop culture, Comic-Con brings together 130,000 people, many of whom come dressed as wizards, princesses or characters from movies, games or TV series. As the story of Godzilla goes, a prehistoric amphibious beast is awakened and mutated by nuclear bomb testing in the Pacific. It emerges from the sea and attacks Japan in a rage, symbolizing the deadly power of nukes. "I think because he came from such a historic event — like, a lot of other monsters are just interesting creatures, but they don't hold the grief of a nation," Hill said, referring to the US nuclear bomb attacks against Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II. At the pop culture watering hole in San Diego, people lined up to shoot pictures and video with an image of Godzilla, which was also the theme of a panel discussion on Friday that featured Shinji Higuchi, who co-directed a reboot in 2016 called "Shin Godzilla." The movie franchise includes nearly 40 films and has spawned hundreds of animated productions about the monster, as well as TV series and graphic work. ROOTING FOR HIM On Saturday, the writers Ed Godziszewski and Steve Ryfle signed autographs of their book "Godzilla: The First 70 Years," which sold out at Comic-Con. "It's a rich history," Ryfle told AFP. "This is the longest-running feature film franchise in cinematic history that's focused on a single, continuous character. It's been around longer than James Bond." He said the key to its longevity is that Godzilla has evolved over time but stayed faithful to its origins. "Godzilla has been serious, it's been scary, it's been heroic, it's been funny. But at the same time, this is a movie character that's rooted in something that's very real," Ryfle said. "And that's the trauma that Japan experienced, both during World War II, and also the trauma of the aftermath of World War II, the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," he added. He said Honda, who directed the first Godzilla movie, was a veteran who used the film to send a message against war and, in particular, against nuclear weapons. Michelle Pena, a Godzilla fan who waited in line to get the autograph of the two writers, said part of the monster's charm is how it has changed over the years. "Good, bad, hero, anti-hero, you know. And I like that," she said. "He's not, like, lovable," she added. "He's a big dinosaur-looking thing, you know. He's scary. But, like, you really, really find yourself rooting for him."
