Sivakarthikeyan Wants To Do Maaveeran Sequel, But There's One Thing Holding Him Back

Sivakarthikeyan says he's scared of sequels but wants to do Maaveeran 2 for its unique script. Sivakarthikeyan recently attended the NASSCOM People Summit 2025, where he spoke about his cinematic journey and the idea of returning to past successes. While chatting about potential sequels, the actor made an honest confession — he's usually hesitant about sequels, but there's one film he'd love to revisit. 'I am scared of sequels quite actually," Sivakarthikeyan said during the event. 'It should be a very good script that doesn't spoil the first part's success. I am always scared of it." But despite his reservations, there's one exception. 'But, I want to try a sequel to Maaveeran. The movie had a very unique script, and that is why I want to give it a try," he added, sparking excitement among fans of the action-thriller. Maaveeran, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Madonne Ashwin, follows the story of Sathya — a timid comic book artist who draws a brave fictional warrior for a local Tamil newspaper. Averse to conflict in real life, Sathya's world turns upside down after a life-altering fall from a terrace. He begins hearing a mysterious voice narrating his life like one of his comics, prompting him to confront the corruption and injustice around him. The film saw Sivakarthikeyan in the lead alongside a stellar cast including Aditi Shankar, Saritha, Mysskin, Monisha Blessy, Yogi Babu, and Sunil. It was both a critical and commercial success, praised for its blend of fantasy, social satire, and political commentary. Interestingly, the film recently released in theatres across Japan with Japanese subtitles, furthering its international reach. Sivakarthikeyan was last seen in the biographical action drama Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The film, co-starring Sai Pallavi, became a box office hit and was lauded for its gripping storytelling. Looking ahead, the actor is set to headline Madharasi, an action thriller directed by AR Murugadoss, which is scheduled to hit theatres on September 5, 2025. The film's first single 'Salambala," composed by Anirudh Ravichander and sung by Sai Abhyankkar, has already built significant buzz. Madharasi also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, and Biju Menon. In addition, Sivakarthikeyan is currently shooting for Parasakthi, helmed by Soorarai Pottru director Sudha Kongara. view comments First Published: August 04, 2025, 18:59 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
