72-foot clay idol highlight of this year's Vinayaka Chavithi

Vijayawada: A 72-foot clay Ganesh idol will be the star attraction of this year's Vinayaka Chavithi celebrations. The idol is being set up at the RTC grounds in Vidyadharapuram area of Vijayawada by Doondi Ganesh Seva Samithi, which has conducted similar festivities at the same venue in previous years.
This year's Lord Ganesh idol has been carved as 'Sri Karyasiddhi Maha Ganapathi'.
The idol, said to be the tallest in Vijayawada, has been crafted entirely with eco-friendly clay. A team of 90 skilled artisans from Odisha has been working tirelessly day and night to complete the idol before the festival. "Creating such a huge idol from clay is tough and complicated. We first shape the iron frame, then each layer of clay must be fixed properly.
When rains come, it damages the surface, and we have to repair the same portion again and again," explained Devender, one of the workers involved in the project.
The recent heavy rainfall in Vijayawada caused setbacks, damaging parts of the idol and forcing artisans to redo several sections. Despite the difficulties, work has been progressing at a steady pace. Organisers said the emphasis this year is not only on size but also on spreading awareness about eco-friendly celebrations.
"We deliberately chose clay instead of Plaster of Paris because we want to inspire others.
If we can show that a massive idol of this scale can be made with clay, smaller organisers will also follow the same path," said Rakesh, one of the organisers overseeing the arrangements.
The idol is expected to draw thousands of devotees once it is unveiled. Alongside prayers and darshan, cultural programmes and community services are also planned at the venue, making the celebration a major highlight of the festival in the city.

Cell-ebrity singers debut, locked up lyrics set free: Inmates find new hope through music initiative in Ludhiana central jail.

Ludhiana: Creative freedom is born behind bars and redemption rides a rhythmic trail. Two men serving 25-year sentences for rape in the Central Jail of this Punjab city have released a song on YouTube as part of a rehabilitation initiative that aims to give inmates a second chance through music. On Friday, as India marked Independence Day, Yogesh, 32, and Charanjit Singh, 39, saw their first song, Baapu (Father), launched online under a project titled 'Voice Behind Bars'. Written by Yogesh and sung by Charanjit, the track was recorded inside jail with support from Chandigarh-based NGO Welba Foundation. The Punjabi song reflects on a son's memories of his father, recalling birthdays, childhood moments and the emotional bond they shared. The foundation has also given the men copyrights to their work, with proceeds earmarked for their families. The initiative seeks to provide inmates with a sustainable source of income while offering an outlet for their emotions. Yogesh, a former photographer, said he had always written lyrics but never had a platform. "When the NGO asked about our passions, I was overjoyed. I chose to write about my father and the friendship I cherished with him," he said. Charanjit, who once sang at religious events, added: "This is my first song on YouTube. Yogesh and I hope to pursue music once we complete our sentences." Welba Foundation director Parikshit Bansal said the project was designed to help convicts reintegrate into society. "The word 'Welba' comes from 'Welcome Back'. Music allows inmates to release emotions and build a positive vision of life. Our aim is to deter them from returning to crime," he said. Bansal noted that earlier songs released on Republic Day had relied on external composition, but the new release features music created by inmates themselves. They are provided with instruments and training inside the jail to develop skills in composition, sound engineering and editing. The superintendent of Ludhiana Central Jail, Kulwant Singh Sidhu, said the initiative was gaining traction. "Inmates are channelling their energy in a positive way. We are encouraging more prisoners with even a little interest in music to join," he said. MSID:: 123334817 413 | Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Hrithik Roshan's adorable 1970s picture with Amitabh Bachchan will melt your heart—Throwback

Long before he became Bollywood's Greek God, Hrithik Roshan was just a wide-eyed boy, utterly mesmerized by the towering presence of Amitabh Bachchan . A while ago, Hrithik took to social media to share a priceless throwback picture with the megastar—one that dates back to the late 1970s, before he had even dreamt of entering the film industry. Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of Mr. Natwarlal The picture captures little Hrithik standing on the sets of Mr. Natwarlal (1979), mouth wide open, staring in disbelief at Amitabh Bachchan. It was during the recording of the evergreen children's song 'Mere Paas Aao Mere Doston Ek Kissa Suno', composed by Hrithik's uncle, the legendary music director Rajesh Roshan. Hrithik recalled how he was supposed to sing a line in the track. 'Mehboob studio, Bombay, 1979: My chacha, Mr. Rajesh Roshan, took me along for the song recording for 'Mr. Natwarlal' after I agreed to sing a line in the song 'Mere pass aao',' Hrithik wrote. 'I backed out last minute, for reasons very clearly visible on my face in the picture above.' That reason, of course, was none other than Amitabh Bachchan himself. Hrithik confessed that he was so awestruck by the superstar that stage fright got the better of him. Fans reaction: Fans flooded the comments section with nostalgia and admiration. One user pointed out, 'Hrithik Roshan did a wonderful job as the Angry Young Man in 'Agneepath ' . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Eine zielgerichtete Strategie für Ihre finanzielle Zukunft eToro Click Here Undo His 'Vikram Vedha' is also in that zone.' Another commented, 'I wonder if this is from the recording of the song 'Mere Paas Aao Mere Doston Ek Kissa Suno'. 'Mr. Natwarlal' was a fun film.' Over the years, fate ensured that Hrithik and Amitabh would share not just frames but also unforgettable cinematic moments. From the emotional family drama ' Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's moving ' Guzaarish' , their collaboration has given audiences powerful on-screen memories. But this throwback moment remains special—it's a glimpse of a future superstar as a young boy, caught between wonder and nervousness in front of the man who would one day become his co-star.
