Amajita win their first U20 AFCON title [video]
South Africa's U20 national team, Amajita, made football history on Sunday night by securing their first-ever CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations title, defeating Morocco 1-0 in a tense and tactical final at the Cairo International Stadium
This long-awaited triumph came 28 years after South Africa's last appearance in the final, which also featured Morocco – and ended in defeat. This time, however, the script was flipped as coach Raymond Mdaka's side claimed glory in dramatic fashion.
With their victory, Amajita sent a powerful message to the continent: South Africa's youth football has arrived. From defensive discipline to explosive attacking moments, this generation has shown it can compete – and win – on Africa's biggest stage.
The focus now shifts to the FIFA U20 World Cup, where South Africa will aim to carry their continental momentum to the global arena.

Bafana Bafana's preliminary squad for FIFA World Cup qualifiers!
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his preliminary squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Broos' charges will take on Lesotho and Nigeria on 5 and 9 September respectively in their attempt to qualify for the 2026 global showpiece. There are familiar faces in the preliminary squad, including that of Sipho Mbule, Mohau Nkota who recently moved to Saudi Arabia. Orlando Pirates youngsters Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng have also cracked the nod. Interestingly, Kaizer Chiefs have also been represented by Bradley Cross and Mduduzi Shabalala. As expected, Mamelodi Sundowns dominate this preliminary Bafana Bafana squad with the majority of their top stars making the cut. There are concerns, though, with two of Sundowns players in Khuliso Mudau and Themba Zwane who have also been included. Mudau is yet to kick a ball for Sundowns this season while Zwane suffered an injury against Pirates last week. Zwane is expected to be out for at least two months, according to his Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso. Now, Broos is expected to trim the squad down to 23 closer to the dates of these two crucial fixtures. Bafana Bafana top the Group C standings with 13 points from six matches followed by Rwanda who are on eight points. Luke Baartman made to wait for Kaizer Chiefs debut by Spurs
Newly-signed Kaizer Chiefs attacker Luke Baartman will have to wait a little longer for his official debut. Baartman was unveiled by Amakhosi on Tuesday night following the ruling by the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC) The PSL DRC on Monday ruled that Baartman was a free agent as Cape Town Spurs are now an amateur side. However, Spurs argued that Baartman still had an exisiting contract with them despite their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League. Now, according to iDiski Times , Spurs have taken the matter on appeal to the South African Football Association (SAFA). The Urban Warriors feel aggrieved by the ruling, and strongly believe that SAFA will interprete the rules differently. Nonetheless, this Baartman-Spurs saga is likely to have the same ending as that of Asanele Velebayi who was also declared a free agent by SAFA before joining Chiefs. Now, Chiefs will NOT be able to play Baartman until SAFA rules on the matter brought forward by Spurs. Luke Baartman will wear jersey No.11 at Kaizer Chiefs. SHOCKER! Lucas Ribeiro Costa wants out at Sundowns!
Lucas Ribeiro Costa is reportedly no longer interested in playing for Mamelodi Sundowns! Costa has spent the past two seasons with Sundowns, and his future has been the subject of huge speculation. Now, according to a report by iDiski Times , the Brazilian attacker has requested for the termination of his contract with Sundowns. However, Sundowns have apparently turned down Ribeiro Costa's request, forcing the player to approach FIFA. This reportedly stems from an attempt by Sundowns to block Ribeiro Costa's move Qatar SC by making high transfer fee demands. Now, all Ribeiro Costa wants is to walk out of his contract which runs until 2028 so that he can be able to move to Qatar SC. And it is for this reason he has taken the matter to the FIFA Tribunal and could also approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Lucas Ribeiro Costa of Mamelodi Sundowns. Photo: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix 'Insiders told this publication that the Qatari side had sent Sundowns 'a particularly generous transfer offer' for the Brazilian attacking midfielder, who wanted to join the Qatari club,' reads part of the report. 'But sources claim Sundowns attempted to 'drive up the price endlessly and in an unreasonable manner, without any regard for the player's personal interests', which made the deal impossible.'
