Lucknow: Dramatised versions of stories by women writers were staged on seventh day of a drama festival at UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Sunday. Stage plays based on the stories 'Netagiri' by Sandhya Sinha, 'Waapsi' by Kamal Kapoor and 'Dosh' by Ruchi Srivastava were directed by Sangam Bahuguna and Vikas Srivastava.

'Netagiri' revolves around the pain of Mahri a maid servant of Saroj, tortured by her husband. Saroj urges her to take stand for herself and not fear her husband.
The other play, 'Waapsi', sheds light on the struggle of someone who loves a person from another religion and because of norms of the society and family pressure the couple could not marry. The story revolves around Indu and Sahil who fall in love but have to sacrifice their love because of societal norms.
They meet again after 22 years and realise they are still in love with each other.
'Dosh' throws light on the joy of six years old Vandana who is given the responsibility of taking care of her newly wedded aunt (chachi). Being a girl child, she is happy to get little attention in an orthodox household. One day, when she goes playing with her cousin brothers and realisation shakes her as a child.

The engagement took place on Sunday in Lucknow, with the wedding planned for November 18 at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi. 'This day has been in our hearts for so long – almost three years – and the wait was worth every second. Engaged – with full hearts and a forever to go," Saroj posted on her 'X' account. Alongside the families of Rinku and Priya, several prominent political figures attended the ceremony, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Ram Gopal Yadav, and Shivpal Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also conveyed his best wishes to the couple. Several of Singh's teammates were absent, however, as the Indian Test squad had already departed for England for the Test series commencing on June 20. Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar was present and offered his congratulations. Singh, from Aligarh, has played two ODIs and 33 T20Is for India in recent years and is a key member of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the title in the 2024 season. Saroj, 26, is a first-time MP representing Jaunpur's Machhlishahr constituency. A practising advocate, Saroj is known for her legal expertise and youthful dynamism. She is among India's youngest MPs. Originally from Karkhiyaon village in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, she has followed in her father's political footsteps. Her father, Tufani Saroj, is a three-time MP and current MLA for Uttar Pradesh's Kerakat. Saroj began her political career in 2024 when she was elected as the MP for Machhlishahr, defeating BJP veteran BP Saroj by over 35,000 votes. The late choreographer had once recalled this incident in an interview when they were shooting for a 1990 film 'Sheshnaag'. It seemed like the actress didn't want to shoot with Saroj Khan and when she confronted her about this, Rekha broke into tears. Saroj opened up on this incident during a chat on Lehren Podcast, "The producer gave very less time for us to record the song. We were just getting three days to rehearse the song. My group and I were working day and night to compose the dance of the song. We asked the producer to send Rekha ji for rehearsals because it was a very difficult dance. But she didn't come. She was either sick or shooting for something else." Khan added, "She came on the day of the shooting. She was sitting in his car with no costume just her makeup was done. She further revealed, 'I told her, 'Rekha ji, I think you have something allergic against me. You don't come for rehearsals and on shooting day you say you are sick. You can ask the producer to change the dance master. Tell the producer you don't want to work with me because there is something wrong here'." This made Rekha emotional and she started crying. Saroj revealed, 'When I looked at her, she had tears in her eyes and I told her, 'I don't think I said something wrong but I feel you should shoot today.' Lucknow: The tricentenary birth celebrations of Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar was celebrated jointly by Sanskar Bharti, Awadh Pranth and UP Sangeet Natak Akademi at UPSNA on Monday. Ahilyabai was the queen of Indore within the Maratha empire. The programme began with a recital performance by the students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir. Principal of Navyug Girls College, Manjula Upadhyay shed light on the life of Ahilyabai and said, "Ahilyabai was born in 1725. She was an epitome of courage, intellect, compassion and women empowerment . Her life is an inspiration for many and drives us to remember her even after three centuries of her death." Vice chancellor of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Prof Mandavi Singh said, "Such cultural events which educate about great personalities should be promoted." A dance performance was presented by the troupe of dancer Shruti Sharma. Meanwhile, a dance drama on Lord Shri Ram was presented by the troupe of dancer Arjun Mishra. A visitor, Shreya Saran (15) said, "The programme was very informative and entertaining." The programme ended with a chorus performance of the national song.
