‘Ahilyabai inspires even after 300 years'
Lucknow: The tricentenary birth celebrations of Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar was celebrated jointly by Sanskar Bharti, Awadh Pranth and UP Sangeet Natak Akademi at UPSNA on Monday.
Ahilyabai was the queen of Indore within the Maratha empire. The programme began with a recital performance by the students of Saraswati Vidya Mandir.
Principal of Navyug Girls College, Manjula Upadhyay shed light on the life of Ahilyabai and said, "Ahilyabai was born in 1725. She was an epitome of courage, intellect, compassion and
women empowerment
. Her life is an inspiration for many and drives us to remember her even after three centuries of her death."
Vice chancellor of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Prof Mandavi Singh said, "Such cultural events which educate about great personalities should be promoted."
A dance performance was presented by the troupe of dancer Shruti Sharma.
Meanwhile, a dance drama on Lord Shri Ram was presented by the troupe of dancer Arjun Mishra. A visitor, Shreya Saran (15) said, "The programme was very informative and entertaining."
The programme ended with a chorus performance of the national song.

'Revival Stories' at Swadesh reimagines Paithani like never before
Once they decided Paithani was their next chapter, the first step was immersion. The team at Swadesh travelled to Paithan and Aurangabad, home to this legendary weave, and spent months working closely with master weavers and textile historians. The process involved studying heirloom sarees, some over 150 years old, stored in family trunks and private collections. They traced motifs, deciphered weaving techniques that had nearly vanished, and engaged in patient dialogue with artisans whose knowledge is often passed down orally over generations. One of the most extraordinary moments in this journey came through their collaboration with renowned textile revivalist, Ajay Bhoj. A custodian of generational wisdom, Ajay opened the doors to a rare and remarkable archive, an heirloom collection of sarees and dupattas dating back nearly 200 years, handcrafted by his forefathers for the queens of royal families. Among these treasures was a Paithani saree, its colours still vivid, its zari untouched by time. The craftsmanship was breathtaking with floral vines in full bloom, parrots with intricate plumage, and motifs rendered with a finesse rarely seen today. Ajay recounted how his great-grandfather had woven the piece for a Maratha queen, using techniques that are now almost lost to time.

Lucknow dastango duo at Prez house recounts lore of Ahilyabai, who refused Sati to serve masses
Lucknow: In a proud moment for Lucknow, two renowned Dastangoi storytellers from the city, Himanshu Bajpai and Pragya Sharma, got opportunity to narrate the life and glory of Ahilyabai Holkar, queen of Indore, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. In the two-day event (May 29-30) that marked 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, Himanshu and Pragya narrated 'Dastan-e-Ahilya', organised by Union ministry of culture and Sahitya Akademi. Inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu, the event was themed 'How much has literature changed'. The duo began with the incident of Raghoba's wife, Anandi Bai, sending her maid to discover secret of Ahilyabai's popularity. The maid tells her that Ahilyabai lives a an austere life, with neither jewellery, nor any ostentation, but is famous because of her great thinking and welfare of common people. She sentenced her son Male Rao to death because he had killed a calf by crushing it under his chariot. The storytellers recounted that Ahilyabai was not only devout but a warrior too. She defeated Chandrawat of Rampura thrice. The last section of the narration describes how when Ahilyabai died, a large number of people gathered in Maheshwar. Due to her contribution to the masses, Ahilyabai was termed a goddess while she was alive. Previously, in 2020, Himanshu had the opportunity to narrate the Kakori Conspiracy episode at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Among the listeners were Sahitya Akademi president Madhav Kaushik, secretary Srinivas Rao, poets Arun Kamal, Ashok Chakradhar, Lakshmi Shankar Bajpai and Rajshekhar Vyas.
