
Lorry driver charged with sexually abusing stepdaughter
The 29-year-old entered a not guilty plea after the charge was read out before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.
He is accused of committing the offence against his 11-year stepchild at a house in Kedai Buloh, Jalan Kuala Besar, at around 8am on June 6.
The charge falls under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and is punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
Earlier, Kamarul objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offence.
The court subsequently set July 28 for case mention to allow the accused time to appoint a lawyer.

Mosque caretaker claims trial to raping daughter

(File pic) PETALING JAYA : A mosque caretaker claimed trial in the Kota Bharu sessions court today for raping his daughter five years ago. The accused, 51, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before judge Zulkifli Abllah, Buletin TV3 reported. He is accused of raping his daughter, who was then 13, at a house in Kuala Krai at about 10pm on Aug 25, 2020. The charge was framed under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between 10 and 30 years, as well as whipping, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Taufikrullah Rusli. The court fixed Sept 21 for mention of the case. No bail was granted.

Ex-madrasah principal jailed 112 years for sexually assaulting 6 boys
MUAR: A former madrasah principal was sentenced to 112 years in jail and 32 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here today to sexually assaulting six male students in 2022. The jail sentences for 16 charges of sexual assault will run concurrently, so Abdul Hadi Harun, 37, will serve seven years in prison. Judge Sayani Mohd Nor handed down the sentence after considering arguments from the prosecution and defence. Abdul Hadi was accused of committing the offences against students aged 12 and 13 at a madrasah toilet and a house in Batu Pahat between May and June 29, 2022. Abdul Hadi, a widower, was charged under sections 14(a), 14(b) and 14(d) and Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Section 14 provides for up to 20 years in jail and caning, while Section 16 provides for an additional sentence, up to five years in jail and not less than two strokes of the cane. According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is part of the madrasah's management, made a report on June 30, 2022 about a student being molested by the accused, who was then the principal. Police investigations found six victims. Abdul Hadi was arrested at 9.45pm on the same day. Investigation also found that the accused threatened some victims to stay silent. Deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi prosecuted, while the accused was represented by Mohd Razak Shariff. The court sentenced Abdul Hadi to five years in jail for each charge under Section 14 and two years in jail and two strokes of the cane for charges under Section 16.
