Iran's President Was Injured In Israel's Nasrallah-Style Assassination Plot: Report
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was lightly injured in an Israeli airstrike on June 16, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Fars News Agency reported on Sunday. Pezeshkian sustained a leg injury when an Israeli missile landed on a building in the western part of Tehran, where a meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council was taking place.
Apart from President Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Judiciary chief Mohseni Ejei, and other senior officials were also attending the meeting, the report said.
According to the report, the Israeli operation was modelled after the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. Six missiles targeted the building's entry and exit points to block escape routes and disrupt airflow.
The Iranian officials were present on the lower levels of the building. After the explosions, power to the floor was cut. However, an emergency hatch was prepared in advance, and the officials managed to escape through it after the attack, the Fars report said.
Along with Pezeshkian, some other officials also sustained minor injuries while exiting. The Iranian authorities are now reportedly looking into the possibility of an infiltrator, given the accuracy of the information used in the attack.
Iranian President Pezeshkian had earlier accused Israel of trying to assassinate him. "They did try, yes...They acted accordingly, but they failed," he told Tucker Carlson in an interview.
According to an Iran International report, Israel attacked an area near Shahrak-e Gharb in western Tehran on June 16.
Over the course of the 12-day war, Israeli forces killed several top Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists. Among them were-- IRCG commander Hossein Salami, Iranian Armed Forces Chief Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC air force commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh and other senior IRGC air force officials.
Earlier reports said that Israel planned to assassinate Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the 12-day war, but the right moment never came.

The Andhra Pradesh government has dropped all further action against retired IPS officer and former intelligence chief A B Venkateswara Rao after the High Court quashed an FIR and a chargesheet filed against him. Rao, an Additional Director General of Police officer, had been booked under charges including criminal conspiracy and cheating and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government. He was also in the limelight when allegations emerged that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government between 2014 and 2019 had used the Pegasus spying software. Rao has maintained that he was being targeted by the YSRCP as he was deemed close to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. A few days before the Assembly elections were held on April 11, 2019, the Election Commission of India had transferred Rao and asked him to report to its headquarters. The YSR Congress Party leaders had complained to the EC that some police officers were working in favour of the TDP government. Rao had challenged his suspension in the High Court, the Supreme Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which quashed his suspension and directed the YSRCP government to reinstate him. He was reinstated on May 31, 2024, and he retired the same day. The YSRCP government had also filed a chargesheet against him in a local court in Vijayawada on May 18, 2024, in an alleged corruption case. However, both the FIR and the chargesheet were quashed by the High Court, said a government order issued on Tuesday. Chief secretary K Vijayanand, in the order, said the TDP-led NDA government has reviewed the matter and come to the conclusion that it was not a fit case to file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court. 'The government has therefore decided to drop further action against Rao,' said Vijayanand in the order. During Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure, his government had also alleged that Rao was involved in irregularities in the purchase of surveillance equipment from an Israeli firm and in the award of a contract to a firm owned by his son. In March 2022, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed a resolution to probe whether the previous TDP regime had purchased Israeli spyware, Pegasus. The resolution came as the ruling YSRCP told the House that it had taken note of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments that while her government had rejected an offer to buy Pegasus 4-5 years ago, the software had been acquired by Andhra Pradesh when Chandrababu Naidu was the CM. Just after this resolution was passed, Rao held a media conference in which he said that although NSO Group had approached the state government to sell Pegasus, it was rejected. He said that as he was the Intelligence chief at that time, it was his responsibility to respond to allegations and clear the air. Taking note of his media conference, the state government issued a show cause notice to Rao on April 5, stating that he violated Rule 6 of AIS Rules as he did not take permission from the state government to address a media conference. In April 2022, the Supreme Court directed the state government to reinstate Rao and give him a posting. The state government appointed him commissioner of printing and stationery, but suspended him the same day for the same reasons. This January, the TDP-led NDA government regularised Rao's suspension and recognised it as time spent on duty. It enabled him to receive full pay for being on suspension from February 8, 2020, to February 7, 2022, and from June 28, 2022, to May 30, 2024.

Israel bombs Syria Army HQ after warning Damascus to leave Druze alone
Israel said it bombed Syrian Army headquarters in Damascus on Wednesday (July 16, 2025) after warning the Islamist-led government to leave the Druze minority alone in its Sweida heartland where a monitor says sectarian clashes have killed nearly 250 people. Syrian government forces entered the majority-Druze city of Sweida on Tuesday (July 15, 2025) with the stated aim of overseeing a ceasefire agreed with Druze community leaders after clashes with local Bedouin tribes left more than 100 people dead. However, witnesses reported that the government forces joined with the Bedouin in attacking Druze fighters and civilians in a bloody rampage through the city. The fighting marks the most serious outbreak of violence in Syria since government forces battled Druze fighters in Sweida province and near Damascus in April and May leaving more than 100 people dead. The Islamist-led authorities have had strained relations with Syria's patchwork of religious and ethnic minorities since they toppled longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in December. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz called on Damascus to "leave the Druze in Sweida alone". "As we have made clear and warned, Israel will not abandon the Druze in Syria and will enforce the demilitarisation policy we have decided on," he said in a statement. Syrian forces should withdraw, he added, and promised no let-up in Israeli military attacks until that happened, saying Israel would "raise the level of responses against the regime if the message is not understood". Shortly afterwards, the Israeli military said it had hit Syria's military headquarters in Damascus. "A short while ago, the (Israeli military) struck the entrance of the Syrian regime's military headquarters in the area of Damascus in Syria," it said in a statement. Syrian state television reported that two people were wounded in central Damascus, without giving a more precise location. 'Existential battle' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in February that southern Syria must be completely demilitarised, warning that Israel would not accept the presence of forces of the Islamist-led government near territory it controls. Israel said it was sending more troops to the armistice line between the occupied Golan Heights and Syrian-controlled territory. "In accordance with the situational assessment, the (Israeli military) has decided to reinforce its forces in the area of the Syrian border," a statement said. The head of the Druze community in Israel, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, called the situation "an existential battle for the Druze community". According to the Observatory, witnesses and Druze armed groups, government forces took part in fighting alongside the Bedouin against the Druze. Sporadic gunfire continued to ring out in the city on Wednesday, an AFP correspondent reported. Columns of smoke were seen rising from several areas amid the sound of shelling. The correspondent counted the bodies of around 30 combatants, some in plain clothes and some in military uniform. The Suwayda 24 news website reported "intense shelling with heavy artillery and mortars". The Syrian Defence Ministry accused "outlaw groups" of attacking its forces inside the city, saying they are now "continuing to respond to the sources of fire". Death toll nears 250 The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 248 people had been killed in Sweida province since the violence erupted on Sunday (July 13, 2025). The Britain-based watchdog said 28 civilians were among 92 Druze killed, 21 of them "in summary executions by government forces". At least 138 Syrian security personnel were killed, along with 18 allied Bedouin fighters, it added. The Bedouin and the Druze have been at loggerheads for decades. The latest violence erupted after the kidnapping of a Druze vegetable merchant triggered tit-for-tat abductions, the Observatory said. Since they toppled longtime leader Bashar al-Assad in December, Syria's Islamist authorities have been accused repeatedly of trampling over the rights of the country's religious and ethnic minorities. Israel has presented itself as a defender of the Druze, although some analysts have said that is just a pretext for pursuing its own military goal of keeping government forces as far from the border as possible.
