I tried the Oodie Cooling Blanket to see if it helped me sleep in a heatwave
Yes, that's right, Oodie - the company behind those viral wearable blankets - has introduced a line of cooling blankets designed to draw away heat and moisture while you sleep. What's more, it's currently on offer for £79, down from £99, saving customers £20.
Naturally, I was intrigued by this innovative sleep companion. A blanket that keeps you cool sounds like a contradiction, but I was keen to give it a go. Scroll down to see how it fared in my bedtime routine.
My Verdict on the Oodie Cooling Blanket
When the Oodie Cooling Blanket arrived at my door, I was doubtful. However, those doubts quickly vanished once I unpacked it. The blanket, which featured a soft pastel wave pattern, was genuinely cool to the touch - so much so that I was baffled by how Oodie had achieved it.
The secret lies in the material: a blend of nylon and elastane that the brand claims is three times cooler than cotton. It absorbs heat and disperses it, helping to maintain a steady temperature throughout the night, reports the Mirror.
During the recent heatwave that swept across London a couple of weeks ago, I decided to put it to a real test. I'd been spending roughly 20 minutes tossing and turning in bed, attempting to find the least perspiration-inducing position.
However, with the Oodie blanket, I felt immediately cooler and fell asleep surprisingly swiftly. I did wake up a couple of times in the middle of the night feeling somewhat warm, but simply flipping the blanket over solved the issue. It cooled down again within seconds, and I was back to sleep before I knew it.
I also appreciate its lightweight nature. Unlike heavier duvets, which can exacerbate the discomfort of warm nights, it didn't feel like it was burdening me at all.
While it's primarily designed for sleeping, it can also be helpful after exercise. If the user is particularly sweaty, it may become a bit smelly, but as it's machine washable, maintaining its freshness and cleanliness is straightforward.
However, there are numerous other moisture-wicking alternatives on the market. I've compiled a list of some of my favourite temperature-regulating options, as featured in The Mirror.
These include Piglet in Bed's linen sheets, available in a variety of colours and boasting a timeless yet breathable design. For those who still prefer using a duvet, the low-tog Slumberland duvet starts from £49.99 and has received accolades from users as being 'perfect for all year round.'
I didn't anticipate falling for the Oodie blanket, but I have. It's improved my sleep during balmy nights, and while it doesn't substitute air conditioning or a fan, it's a seriously commendable alternative that won't make your electricity bill grimace.
My only quibble is that the pastel wave design isn't quite to my taste - it clashes with the subdued hues in my bedroom, so I wish I'd opted for a different colour. That being said, it's reversible, featuring a blue side, and is available in seven colours, including a neutral burgundy that has caught my eye.
For anyone finding it tough to sleep through warm nights who doesn't want to splash out on a fan, the Oodie Cooling Blanket is worth a thought. It's not just a novelty - it genuinely does the job. And if it aids me in avoiding waking up in a pool of sweat, it's a champion in my eyes.

Gemma Collins makes sweet confession about being a stepmum as she issues plea to parents
EXCLUSIVE: TOWIE icon Gemma Collins has made a rare confession about being a stepmum as she gave a look into her life with fiance Rami Hawash and his son Tristan Gemma Collins has revealed how she has adjusted to mum life as she insisted she "wouldn't have it any other way". The TOWIE icon, 44, is a proud step mum to her fiancé Rami Hawash's son Tristan. She first met Rami in 2011 and got engaged in 2013. They broke up shortly afterwards but eventually rekindled things during the coronavirus lockdown. The pair are now engaged again and busy wedding planning, yet things have been put on hold as Gemma enjoys the summer holidays with her stepson. It comes after one TV star admitted she sleeps in separate bed to partner as she fumes over pregnancy. Gemma has been vocal about urging parents to embrace the school holidays and appreciate time with their little ones. Speaking to the Mirror, the reality TV star said: "I've been busy being a step mum, because obviously I've got Tristan now. "I don't overshare him too much on socials, because I respect his privacy but we've had him, so that's been lovely. We've been just doing family, normal, kiddy, friendly [things]." She confessed: "I spent more time in [children's trampoline park] Jump Street than I've had hot dinners. I've been on the PlayStation, you name it, I been doing it. "Parks, doggy walks, I just been being a step mum to be honest. I wish I could say to you, I'm sat in Mykonos drinking a Pina Colada, but I'm not. I have been being stepmother duties but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've loved it." When asked if she has been enjoying the six week holidays, Gemma added: "I really do and time is so precious. Tristan's been in my life since he was three, he's nearly eight-years-old now. "These summer moments are so precious they come and go so quick. It's all about just stop rushing around so much and take a little bit of time in the summer." Last year, Gemma urged mums to "embrace their children" as she opened up on her own fertility struggles. She has previously been candid about her wishes to have children as she's heartbreakingly had several miscarriages and was once advised to terminate a pregnancy of an intersex baby. Gemma told her followers at the time: "I'm loving this faze of my life having time to be the best version of me embrace your children this half term don't moan enjoy it remember there's always someone who doesn't have what you got let children be children." She still stand by her message as she told us: "I think it's a liberty really, if you've got that attitude, don't have kids. They're special humans and I get the daily stresses and life, we've all got it. "Even me sometimes, I think 'oh god how am I gonna make it till nine o'clock tonight', when you're busy with the kids. But you just do, you find the way, you dig deep. "They give you so much pleasure, so I've had lots of fun." Gemma added: "It is a lot for the parents, there is a lots to do and to keep the kids entertained. But go back to basics, put a picnic on, go to the park, get some games and just embrace the nature and the outdoors. They don't need to be going to all these fancy days out." Gemma has partnered with Sky as she takes on the task of oversharing. She teased her fans by revealing she was going to get married on ice, in a nod to her viral time on Dancing On Ice. She admitted: "I've always been an oversharer. I love to spill the coffee. I just think everyone's just not been saying much and keeping it in. "Everyone loved it. It was like they were getting the tea, they were just getting the scoop. It's gonna be so much of fun when people finally realise that I'm not getting married on ice."

Adam Collard's baby bombshell with fiancée Laura Woods as they face huge decision
EXCLUSIVE: Adam Collard has revealed whether he and fiancée Laura Woods are having more children, as he admits the pair have a decision to make when it comes to the future of their family. Adam Collard has revealed he and Laura Woods are already planning baby number two, but have a big decision to make on whether a third little one will be on the cards. "I'm one of two and Laura's one of three, so we're arguing over whether we want two or three kids. Hopefully the next one's a girl and we can stop there," Adam - who already shares eight-month-old son with the sports presenter - tells Mirror. "We've got her family staying right now and there's a lot of kids around the house, so I told her this is what it'll be like if we have three," laughs Adam. Whatever number the decide on, Adam says Laura is a natural when it comes to parenthood: "She was born to be a mum. Laura fell pregnant quite early on in our relationship and it feels like she was meant for it in every sense. I started my own businesses at 21 and went on Love Island at 22, but it always felt like I was working hard, going on holidays, doing all these material things, with no one to share it with." Adam's comments come after Andy Carroll 'splits from Lou Teasdale due to her demands' weeks after public row. READ MORE: Cat Deeley found moving back to the UK 'really hard' before split from Patrick Kielty "Laura's the same, we now realise why we work hard. We've just bought another house and it's probably going to be the home where Leo grows up – we now realise what the point is." Becoming a parent is no easy feat though, something Adam has learned along the way. "[Leo] is a handful! He's 100 miles an hour, but so funny and everything we've ever wanted. Being a dad is great, but it's challenging, too, I'd never sugar coat that. "But it's put everything into perspective. I've got a purpose now, whereas for years I felt like I was in limbo. I've not got a lot of family members that I'm close to – unlike Laura. Both my mum and dad have been missing at different stages of my life. But I want to compensate for that and be the best I can possibly be for Leo." On the topic of being the best he possibly can be, Adam is currently one of the celebs battling it out on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and has been one of this series' strongest contenders. "[Celeb SAS] was amazing, even better than I expected. I like how it's not 'produced', when we're in there, it doesn't feel like a TV show. It wasn't easy, though. "The final few days were tough – interrogation alone was harder than the full week before, they peel the layers off. I have a reputation for physical fitness, but I wanted to put myself in that situation to test myself mentally," he said of doing the show. But as well as testing himself, Adam also used the show to get out of a difficult place he was in, as the former Love Island star explains: "I've spoken about my addiction to painkillers, which saw my mental health dip. I nearly pulled out of SAS because I didn't feel my strongest, mentally. But, I spoke with Laura and realised that when anything bad happens, the best thing is to have something to focus on. "People will see an emotional side of me, which they'll be surprised about because it's not the hard exterior I had the last seven years I've been on TV. The show was a bit of a saving grace."

The Apprentice star Karren Brady 'unrecognisable' in new photo after undergoing cosmetic procedure
Karren Brady has been told that she looks 'unrecognisable' in a photo that she shared on social media this week, after undergoing a cosmetic procedure Fans have been left baffled, as they claimed they couldn't recognise Baroness Karren Brady in a snap posted by The Apprentice star. It comes as the business mogul revealed she would be overhauling her wardrobe following a cosmetic treatment. Karren, 56, who also serves as vice chair of West Ham United FC, posted a picture of herself wearing a sleeveless white dress on Instagram earlier this week on Friday, August 15. She hinted in the caption that the image was captured after having her skin firmed up, as reported by the Mirror. The upload has racked up over 8,000 likes, with Karren flooded with praise in the comments. Multiple followers admitted they initially failed to recognise her, with some claiming they confused her with other famous faces. The first image in the post displayed Karren posing in the sleeveless dress, which she had paired with a Chanel belt, whilst standing in a corridor. A follow-up photograph offered a peek at the treatment, showing equipment being applied to an arm. Karren captioned the post: "I never thought I'd be able to wear short sleeves again, but after a course of Exion skin-tightening with radio frequency, I can! "Exion uses radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound to naturally boost hyaluronic acid by up to 224%, while stimulating collagen and elastin for smoother, firmer, more youthful-looking skin - all with no needles, no pain, and no downtime." She hinted that she'll be sporting more sleeveless outfits in the future following the procedure. Karren ended her post with: "Bring on the sleeveless tops! Huge thanks to Rita Rakus @drritarakus_ as always." Her post racked up a lot of compliments from fans this week. One follower penned: "You look incredible Karren." Another chimed in: "Stunning outfit. You look amazing Karren." A third added: "You look fabulous." However, some thought she looked unrecognisable. One user commented: "For a second I really thought it was a different person." Another remarked: "She looks so different." A third noted: "Did not recognise her." Echoing these sentiments, another fan said: "Looks nothing like her." Some even compared her to 74-year-old actress Jane Seymour. One follower wrote: "At first glance I thought it was the actress Jane Seymour." Another suggested: "Young Jane Seymour." Others admitted they initially mistook her for singer Jennifer Lopez and former soap star Michelle Keegan. The caption also sparked a reaction. Some fans reassured Karren that people can wear short-sleeved outfits regardless of how their arms look. One responded: "Who said you couldn't wear short sleeves." Another pointed out: "Who's going to tell her that you can wear short sleeves whatever your arms look like? There aren't any rules, it's okay." Someone else advised: "You could wear sleeveless tops without this. You can wear what you want." "But you could always wear sleeveless tops?" another queried. Meanwhile, one follower penned: "I've got bingo wings but I don't care in this heat I'm wearing sleeveless tops and dresses!".
