Race for state top cop position heats up after Sahoo's new role
Jaipur: The search for Rajasthan's new Director General of Police (DGP) intensified Tuesday following the appointment of DGP Utkal Ranjan Sahoo as chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC).
Leading the seniority list of potential candidates is Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer currently serving as Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD). Sharma's extensive portfolio, including significant roles in both the Rajasthan police force and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), makes him a strong contender for the position. His previous experience as DG (Anti-Corruption Bureau) and head of Law and Order in the state further strengthens his candidacy.
Ravi Prakash Meharda, another 1990-batch officer and Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), has been given the additional charge as DGP following Sahoo's appointment to RPSC. Even as he is approaching retirement, Meharda's unblemished service record and strong performance keep him in contention for permanent position in the top post.
Other prominent candidates include Sanjay Kumar Agrawal (1992 batch), who currently heads the Intelligence wing and previously served as Jaipur Police Commissioner.

Another co-op bank faces vigilance inquiry over financial irregularities in Kochi
KOCHI: Another cooperative bank in Ernakulam district has come under the scanner of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) for illegal disbursal of loans. The agency has registered a case into alleged loan manipulation at the Chendamangalam Service Cooperative Bank. The case pertains to a loan sanctioned against agricultural land to individuals outside the bank's territorial jurisdiction. The accused include former president of the bank K Sivasankaran, former vice-president K G Rafale, 11 former board members, the secretary, assistant secretary, and 10 others. The bank was governed by a UDF-backed board during the period under scrutiny. 'Following a complaint, we carried out a preliminary probe into several loans sanctioned during the previous governing board's tenure. It was found that some loans were granted to people residing outside the jurisdiction of the bank in Chendamangalam and nearby areas. Based on our findings, we decided to proceed with a detailed investigation. An FIR has now been registered against 25 individuals,' said a VACB officer.
