Ravens S Ar'Darius Washington tears Achilles, expected to miss 2025 season

The Baltimore Ravens lost a key piece of their defense Tuesday.
Ravens safety Ar'Darius Washington tore his Achilles and is now expected to miss the season. Washington went down during conditioning work, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, though further specifics of his injury are not yet known.

Washington was expected to play a significant part in the Baltimore secondary this fall. The 25-year-old signed a one-year, $3.263 million restricted free-agent tender to return to the Ravens this offseason after his breakout campaign last year. Washington, who went undrafted out of TCU, had 64 total tackles and two interceptions last season, both of which were career highs. He stepped into a starting role midway through the year and more than held his own, too.
The Ravens went 12-5 last season, which marked their third straight season with double-digit wins. They were knocked out in the divisional round of the playoffs, however, despite winning the AFC North for a second consecutive year.
While losing Washington stings, the Ravens do have a replacement available. They selected former Georgia star Malaki Starks with the No. 27 overall pick in the NFL Draft last moth. Starks had 77 total tackles and an interception last season with the Bulldogs. He should be able to jump into the Baltimore secondary and make an impact right away. The team has starter Kyle Hamilton, too. Hamilton had 107 total tackles and an interception, and he earned his second straight Pro Bowl nod last season, his third in the league.
The injury is the latest significant one that Washington has faced in his career. He went down with a season-ending foot injury as a rookie and then missed most of the 2023 season with a chest injury. Washington had yet to play in more than three games in a season before last year's run.
'Ar'Darius is a great example of a guy who got a chance and ran with it,' general manager Eric DeCosta said in January, via the Baltimore Banner. 'This year, he stayed healthy and he became that guy that we saw in college. He's tough, physical, a playmaker, instinctive, smart, a leader. He's a great story. Just another one of these undrafted guys over the years that we've had that has developed into being a really good football player.'

Micah Parsons Trade Fits This NFC Contender's M.O.

Will the Dallas Cowboys actually trade Micah Parsons? It's one of the most popular topics of the NFL news cycle. Headed into the final year of his rookie contract and set to draw a salary of $24 million, Parsons has done enough to generate a much bigger paycheck. Having earned a Pro Bowl nod all four seasons of his career, Parsons's salary falls well short of Micah Parsons, the NFL's highest-paid defender, who draws an annual average rate of $40 million per season. There's been no indication that the Cowboys are actually willing to deal their two-time first-team All-Pro sack artist. If they do, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes there's one NFC contender who could make a play for him. 'I would expect that the Packers would be among the teams interested,' Rapoport said. 'That's the kind of team that I would say, if Micah was going to be traded, that he'd be going to.' The Packers have all their own selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. They could very well use one or some of those selections to present a strong trade offer for Parsons. But again, there's been no indication that the Cowboys are actually ready to listen to trade offers on their best defensive player. Of course, perhaps they'd have a change of heart if they received an offer too good to refuse. Still, even if the Packers did trade for Parsons, they'd still have to do something the Cowboys haven't been willing to do at this point — Pay him market value while recognizing his worth as one of the best defenders in the NFL. After recording double-digit sacks all four years of his career, Parsons has earned that much respect. While the Packers have struggled to find a consistent pass-rush threat opposite Rashan Gary, adding Parsons would end their fruitless pursuit of the next great young pass-rusher. They've invested first-round picks in Lukas Van Ness and Quay Walker. While both are projected to start this year, both of them combined couldn't come close to having the same level of impact as Parsons. Plus, the Packers even doubled down, selecting defensive end Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round and Collin Oliver in the fifth of the 2025 NFL Draft. Of course, trading for Parsons would solve this position for years to come, as he's still just 26 years old and should offer elite production for at least five seasons, if not more. Report: Denzel Ward's shoulder injury not believed to be serious

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward injured his right shoulder in Tuesday's practice. Jordan Schultz reports that the injury is not believed to be serious, though Ward will undergo further testing to confirm. Ward left practice early after a one-on-one with receiver Jerry Jeudy, raising concern as he appeared in pain as he walked inside to be evaluated. Ward, 28, is heading into this eighth season. He has made the Pro Bowl each of the past two seasons and four times total. In 2024, Ward totaled 49 tackles, two interceptions, a league-best19 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Titans' Simmons says shove of Ward was simply flared tempers, blown out of proportion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons defended shoving the Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cameron Ward at the end of practice Monday and accused outsiders of blowing up tempers flaring at a hot training camp practice. The No. 1 overall draft pick, wearing a red non-contact jersey, was celebrating a touchdown throw in a red-zone drill when he put a hand on Simmons, who reacted by shoving Ward. Simmons was escorted off the practice field, not talking to reporters until the end of Tuesday's practice. 'At the end of the day, you know can't touch a quarterback," Simmons said. "We at a joint practice and somebody touch our quarterback, trust me I'm going to be the first one in. So I respect the (expletive) out of the offense for having ... our quarterback back.' Simmons said it was all left on the field and that he would take only football questions. Ward is scheduled to talk after Wednesday's practice. Titans coach Brian Callahan said assistant coaches are asked to take a player off the field if tempers get hot and cool them down. Practice ended two plays later, and Callahan said his conversations with Simmons and Ward were between them. 'It was a training camp push and shove and a little bit of loud barking, and that was pretty much it for me,' Callahan said. "It's late August, and we're ready to go play some real football.'
