Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar unveils his new stirring single and its all set to hit the South-East Asian market

The Star21-06-2025
Not every chapter in life is filled with joy. Sometimes, we stumble in silence, unsure of how to rise again. In those quiet moments, a song can become a refuge – a reminder that it is okay to pause, to lean, and to simply feel.
Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar returns with his latest single, 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', a deeply moving ballad composed by Adi Pawana and Rudy Nastia, and produced by leading label Sony Music Malaysia.
More than just a melody, the song offers comfort to weary souls – an emotional embrace for those carrying silent burdens.
'I accepted the song the moment I heard it. No hesitation. No second thoughts. It struck something deep inside me because it mirrors a chapter I'm living… losing my beloved mother hasn't been easy,' Khai shares sincerely.
'Kau Bukannya Menyerah, Hanya Bersandar Seketika…'
The above line which translates to 'you're not giving up, just leaning for a moment…' is the heart of 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', inviting listeners to slow down, to acknowledge pain, and to rest when the weight of the world feels too heavy.
According to Sony's media release, the song is not just a ballad – it is a tender embrace for those quietly battling their own storms.
'I believe everyone has felt overwhelmed at some point, but not everyone knows how to express it. This song creates that space – to cry, to let go, and to accept that we don't always have to appear strong,' Khai explains.
A Healing Ballad For The Heart
'Beri Sedikit Waktu' carries messages of empathy, acceptance, and inner healing. It encourages listeners not to bottle up sadness or pretend to be okay, but instead, to allow themselves to feel, and to heal – at their own pace.
Musically, the song takes form as a ballad rich in 'healing' energy – featuring minimalist arrangements, a calm vocal delivery, and soul-stirring lyrics.
'I sang it in the most honest way possible. Not too technical or polished. I just wanted to share the feeling. I believe that if it comes from the heart, it will reach the heart,' says Khai, who admits to thinking of his mother throughout the recording process.
Recorded at Mixbro Records in Cybersouth, the track only took about two hours to record – but emotionally, it was a heavy session for the singer.
'There were several moments I had to pause because I got really choked up. But I knew I had to record this song. Because I believe many people need something like this right now,' he adds.
The Music Video: A Journey Toward Healing
The official music video (MV) for 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' brings an equally powerful visual message – sadness is not the end of the road, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
'It represents someone's journey from emotional darkness to the realization that life must go on. No pain lasts forever – sometimes, we just need a little time to heal and rise again,' explains Khai, who was also involved in conceptualising the MV.
A Son's Heartfelt Dedication
To Khai, this song is not only a tribute to his late mother, but also a gift to anyone who has experienced loss – be it a loved one, a hope, or their own spirit.
'I know many people are silently fighting battles. This song is for them. If it can bring even the slightest relief or make them feel seen or even heard… that's more than enough for me,' he says.
Khai hopes 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' will be a comforting companion to listeners, especially when they need time to lean on something – and slowly find their strength again.
'Not everyone can get back up right after a fall. I want this song to feel like a warm hug for all of them. Just take your time. Cry if you need to. But trust me – you will be okay again,' Khai assures.

Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Gary Chaw reportedly hasn't moved on from ex-wife: 'Still in pain'

It's been nearly three years since Malaysian singer Gary Chaw divorced Taiwanese fashion blogger Wu Shuling, but it seems he hasn't fully moved on. The 46-year-old recently shared on Xiaohongshu (Red Note) a video of himself singing his 2019 song I'm Just A Fool – a ballad in which he confronts his shortcomings and expresses his unconditional devotion. The post quickly drew attention, with many netizens praising Chaw's soulful vocals, while others shared how the performance evoked a deep sense of nostalgia. According to China Press, Chaw also left two comments about Wu under his video. The former couple, who divorced in November 2022 after 14 years of marriage, share two children – Joe, 16, and Grace, 14. 'I still haven't forgotten Shuling,' read one of the comments. 'Actually, I'm still in pain,' he wrote in another. It's reported that Chaw later deleted both comments mentioning Wu. This isn't the first time the singer has shown that he's still struggling to move on. In July 2023, Chaw made a series of Instagram posts about his ex-wife and their children – including a throwback wedding photo of him and Wu smiling blissfully. 'I'm messed up... But I still love her,' he wrote at that time. A few months later, while performing his song Zhang Wen during a concert in Taipei, Chaw altered the original lyric 'There is no winning or losing' to 'There is no Shuling'. 'I still love her… Taking it one step at a time,' he said back then.

Classics with a view at Federal Hill hangout

In leafy Federal Hill (Bukit Persekutuan) with a view of Merdeka 118, it's a place to unwind and hang out with friends well into the night. This local hangout, situated next to the historic Galeria Sri Perdana (former official residence of Malaysia's fourth and seventh prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad), attracts both families and youths. Asni (second from right) along with other Warung PagiPagi employees. Young people are often seen here until the early hours, sipping coffee, chatting and enjoying the laid-back vibe. With several palaces also located on Federal Hill, it is not uncommon to spot a royal family member or two at the eatery. In the mornings, Warung PagiPagi serves up a range of classic dishes like nasi lemak, lempeng kelapa (coconut pancakes), laksa Johor, Ubi Rebus Sambal Bilis, lontong and soto. (From left) Fried Chicken Chop; chocolate-coated strawberries with pistachio kunafa sauce; smashed burger. Warung PagiPagi general manager Asni Muzammil said the morning menu features 22 different lauk or dishes to pair with white rice. These are a big hit among locals and visitors alike as they represent Malaysian comfort food. As evening rolls in, the warung turns into a casual dining spot offering hearty meals. One standout is its Buttermilk Chicken (priced at RM14), which comes with either white or fried rice. A selection of butterbrew beverages, non-alcoholic drinks, is served at one of the stalls at Warung Pagi-Pagi. The savoury and buttery gravy complements the crispy chicken perfectly. The roti canai (RM2) is a staple here with varieties like roti telur (RM3), roti tampal (RM3) and roti telur bawang (RM4). Specials such as Roti Sarang Burung and Roti Canai Kahwin are priced at RM5. Apart from these in-house offerings, the space is home to several other stalls with different specialities such as Western food, coffee and butterbrew, Mexican food, smashed burgers, and desserts. For something crispy, try the Fried Chicken Chop (RM17). The tender chicken in light and crunchy batter is served with fries, salad and black pepper dipping sauce. Dessert-wise, Strawberry-Coated Chocolate Pistachio Kunafa (RM16) is an indulgent treat, with fresh strawberries coated in a rich layer of chocolate and topped with a pistachio kunafa sauce. The combination of sweet, juicy berries and creamy, nutty sauce makes for a satisfying end to a meal. For a unique drink experience, try the non-alcoholic butterbrew (priced at RM15 each). Choices include Light Butterbrew, Creamy Butterbrew or − for the more adventurous −Bloody Butterbrew (described as liquid strawberry waffles) or Brunette Butterbrew (a rich, chocolatey concoction that tastes like brewed brownies topped with cold buttercream). Asni said 18 other stalls had opened up near Warung PagiPagi since January. He calls it a 'healing spot' for young people who enjoy hanging out and chatting in the fresh air, especially on weekends. 'Some regulars even bring their own chairs so they can enjoy the vibes for hours on end,' he added. There's something for everyone here, whether you're in the mood for Western, Mexican or local fare. The area gets busy, especially on weekends, with 140 parking bays filling up fast, but Asni said People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel would be there to help direct traffic and make sure everyone finds a spot to park. Warung PagiPagi is located at Lot 1, Galeria Sri Perdana, Jalan Terengganu, Bukit Persekutuan. It is open from 8am to 1am on weekdays, and 8am to 2am on weekends.
