Hear Tate McRae Join Morgan Wallen on Intimate Ballad ‘What I Want'
Morgan Wallen has dropped his new album, I'm the Problem, which includes the highly-discussed collaboration with Tate McRae. The crooning ballad sees the pair sharing vocals as they sing about a temporary relationship between two broken people.
Wallen announced the duet last month, causing McRae's fans to criticize her decision to work with the country singer. 'If McRae had a country-pop pivot in mind, there were plenty of options that wouldn't place her next to one of country's most radioactive stars,' Rolling Stone wrote at the time. 'She's stepped into the hazard zone, but it's unlikely to completely derail her rising star — it might just bring her to an audience that doesn't care much about morals as long as the music is good. It'll have to run its course.'

I'm the Problem features 37 tracks, including collaborations with Post Malone, Eric Church, and Ernest. 'We recorded around 50 songs for this album and ended up cutting 13,' Wallen explained in a statement. 'I feel like we accomplished what I had in mind, and a huge shoutout to my close collaborators on this too. They came in ready and fired up every single day, and they inspire me as much as anything else.'
In support of his new album, Wallen will hit the road for his I'm the Problem tour across North America and will kick things off in Houston, Texas, at NRG Stadium with Corey Kent and Koe Wetzel on June 20. Other special guests planned for the stadium run include Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, Ella Langley, and Anne Wilson.
McRae's latest LP, So Close to What, arrived earlier this year and went to No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. She is currently out on her global Miss Possessive Tour, which continues through September.

Hear Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway's New Song, ‘Killing Spree'
Daron Malakian has strong opinions about what's missing in heavy music today: danger and risk. 'I think you have a generation of fans who are very easily offended,' he tells Rolling Stone. 'Offensiveness and shock should not be taken away from rock music in general.' Those qualities are inherent in 'Killing Spree,' the bloodthirsty first single off Addicted to the Violence, the new album from Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway, due out July 18. 'Insanity/Controlling me,' he sings in the song's chorus, 'Society/The kids are on a killing spree.' Built on manic, strobing guitars and undulating waves of distortion, the music feels both cutting and brutalizing. 'It's gonna feel like a Jesus comin' back,' he sings, stretching the last word heavenward with giddy, helium-like aplomb. 'It's gonna feel like the devil's on the attack.' 'I don't care, I'll touch it because it exists. It's not to be shocking or offensive, but it exists, and that's what I'll write about if I want to. I'm not going to edit myself if someone is going to be offended. I think that's missing in heavy metal music.' He's reluctant to explain the song — 'Your kids are on a killing spree, so your kids have something to do with it,' he says vaguely — partially because he doesn't see anything controversial about the subject matter of killing sprees. 'We live in a world, and things happen in this world, and killing sprees are one of those things that I've seen happen kind of often in the last 15 years or so — but I actually wrote the song way before that,' he says. Moreover, he looks at the song as commentary more than a transgressive statement. 'It's not for or against anything,' he says. 'It just is.' These days, Malakian says he just writes songs for the sake of it. As guitarist-singer for System of a Down, he's been keeping busy touring with them. Since that band has reached a creative stalemate, at least when it comes to making a new album (they did record a couple of songs a few years ago), he has been slowly working on a follow-up to the last Scars on Broadway album, Dictator, which came out in 2018. That album contained songs he had once hoped to record with System of a Down; Addicted to the Violence, he says, is more general. 'At this point in my life, I don't write any songs for System or for Scars,' he says. 'I just write songs. I think if System was making an album, some of those songs would probably end up on a System album, but System does not make albums these days, so they go to Scars.' Malakian had recorded Dictator as a distraction from 'some personal things going on with my family and my life,' so he recorded a bunch of songs in the space of two weeks, doing everything himself, from the vocals and guitars to the drums. Addicted to the Violence has been a more considered affair that found him collaborating on songwriting with his friend, multi-instrumentalist Orbel Babayan, drummer Roman Lomtadze, and saxophonist Matthew 'Narducci' Silberman. 'This album probably took me longer than any album I've ever made to decide it was done,' Malakian says. 'On this one, I did more home demos, recorded some stuff at home, picked the songs in my rolodex of songs that were like, 'Let's record this one, see how it goes.'' Scars on Broadway first recorded the songs at Malakian's home, but it didn't sound right, so they went to a studio, recutting everything but the vocals. He estimates it took close to two years to get everything the way he wanted it. 'I was in no rush,' he says. 'I'm never in any rush. I'm sure people who like what I do realize I don't put out an album every year. … That's just my process.' So will people be able to hear these songs in a concert setting? 'I have plans to play live, but I don't have any tours scheduled or anything like that,' he says. 'But I definitely have plans to play live.' Jonathan Joss: Police Are Investigating Actor's Sexual Orientation as Motive in His Killing
Police investigating the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss have not ruled out his sexual orientation playing a role in his killing, despite an earlier statement suggesting otherwise. During a dispute Sunday night near his San Antonio, Texas home, Joss was shot and killed; a neighbor, identified by investigators as Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was taken into custody and charged with murder. Lil Wayne Debuts At No. 1 With His First New Album In Half A Decade

The superstar rapper is back with the sixth installment in his Tha Carter series, which has proved to be one of the most successful in hip-hop history. While he didn't promote the set via the traditional path with multiple early singles, it appears that Wayne's popularity may be enough to power him to another bestseller, as Americans have quickly responded to the release of Tha Carter VI and turned it into a chart-topper. Tha Carter VI currently rules the iTunes Top Albums chart in the United States. The full-length leads during a packed frame of exciting new releases, as this Friday (June 6), includes drops from stars across genres — but none of them can quite compete with Wayne at the moment. The biggest competition facing Tha Carter VI is not something new. In fact, it's an album that was released more than a quarter century ago. Millennium by Backstreet Boys bolts up the iTunes Top Albums ranking and currently lands in the runner-up spot. Wayne and Backstreet Boys push recent champions I'm the Problem by Morgan Wallen and Reputation by Taylor Swift down a few pegs, and they land at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. The top 10 on the iTunes Top Albums chart features half a dozen new arrivals as of the time of writing, with Tha Carter VI leading them all. Just a few spaces further down the list, new drops from Enhypen, Addison Rae, Marina, Turnstile, and Volbeat all manage to find space inside the uppermost region. None of them can compete with Wayne's first solo full-length since 2020's Funeral, which earned him another No. 1 on the Billboard 200. As Tha Carter VI gets going, one of its predecessors returns and becomes a bestseller again. Tha Carter III, which is widely regarded as the best of these half-dozen releases — and perhaps Wayne's most celebrated full-length — currently sits at No. 60 on the iTunes Top Albums chart. No major singles were pushed from Tha Carter VI before its release, but a favorite track has quickly been identified by fans. "Sharks," which features both Big Sean and Jelly Roll is the only tune by Wayne to appear on the iTunes Top Songs tally, and it's off to a fairly slow start. The track currently appears at No. 186, but it will likely rise in the coming hours and days. Tha Carter VI features 19 songs and a handful of somewhat surprising collaborations. While it's not shocking to see other hip-hop artists like 2 Chainz, Sean, and Kodak Black on the project, U2's Bono and even Andrea Bocelli are also officially credited. The Irish rocker lent his songwriting skills and voice to "The Days," while the Italian crooner appears in the background on "Maria," as he sings "Ave Maria" while Wyclef Jean and Wayne take turns performing.
