"No Record": Poll Body Denies Congress Leader's Claim Of Forged Voter List
In a development that adds fresh fuel to the ongoing controversy around alleged voter roll manipulation, the Karnataka State Election Commission has officially responded to a letter from H Nagesh -- the Congress candidate from Mahadevapura, who lost in the assembly elections from the same constituency in 2023.
In response to his letter, the Commission has said it has no record of any submission made by him in April 2023 regarding forged entries in the constituency's voter list.
In his letter dated July 31, Mr Nagesh had requested a copy of a document he claims to have submitted last year, listing alleged bogus voters in the 174-Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency.
He said his team had misplaced the original documents listing forged entries in the voters list.
The Election Commission, however has responded saying it has no such document on record and noted that Mr Nagesh had also not filed any petition or appeal challenging the 2023 voter list under relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951.
"This office does not have records of any such letter received from you during April 2023 on the issue of electoral rolls," read the letter from the Election Commission.
The reply, issued by Joint Chief Electoral Officer Yogeshwar S, also emphasized that statutory electoral rolls are publicly available online and are also handed to all contesting candidates, including Mr Nagesh, at the time.
Interestingly Rahul Gandhi has been raising the same issue and has been accusing the Election Commission of failing to act on credible evidence of electoral fraud.
Rahul Gandhi will be in Bengaluru on August 5, where he will lead a major protest at Freedom Park against the Election Commission and the BJP.

Matters pending before judiciary can't be discussed in Parliament: Rijiju on SIR debate
NEW DELHI: Matters pending before the judiciary cannot be discussed on the floor of the House, the govt asserted on Wednesday in Lok Sabha in response to continued demand from opposition parties for a discussion on the SIR exercise in Bihar. Addressing the House, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijuju said the functioning of autonomous institutions, such as the Election Commission, cannot be discussed in Parliament. Rijiju cited a 1988 ruling by then LS speaker Bal Ram Jhakar that under the existing constitutional provisions, the House cannot comment upon the actions of EC. "On the issue of special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar for which they (opposition members) are disturbing the House from first day of the session, we all know that the matter is under consideration of SC and as such it is sub judice, and hence, a discussion cannot be held on the subject," he said.

EC to opposition: Get 'wrongfully excluded' to file claims
NEW DELHI: Brushing aside the allegation by opposition MPs Asaduddin Owaisi and Randeep Surjewala that the special intensive revision of electoral roll in Bihar is an exercise in disenfranchising minorities and precarious communities, the Election Commission on Wednesday asked them to get all such electors to file their claims and objections before Sept 1. "Mr Owaisi and Mr Surjewala should ensure that their state units and booth level agents (BLAs) facilitate those they complain have been wrongfully excluded to file their claims with the ERO to add them back in the electoral roll. Interestingly, even as the national party leaders have been complaining of alleged irregularities and imperfections in the roll, not a single claim or objection was filed by any of the 1.6 lakh party BLAs in the field, between publication of the roll on Aug 1 and 9 am on Wednesday," said an EC official. On the other hand, 3,659 individual electors directly filed their claims and objections during this period. Another 19,186 newly-eligible electors have also filed pleas for fresh enrolment through Form 6, along with the mandatory declaration. EC on Wednesday said it is revising the Bihar roll as per the Constitution and the extant laws, and with full transparency. AutoSaveMax Get Quote While the opposition parties question the purpose of the SIR exercise, EC underlined that it has also led to Bihar becoming the first state in the country to limit the number of electors per booth to 1,200, which is expected to cut queues on polling day. EC said lists of electors reported by BLOs as dead, permanently shifted, having two votes and who could not be contacted after at least three visits of BLOs were shared with all political parties and their BLAs on or before July 20, giving them ample time to report any wrongful additions or deletions.
