NASA's next frontier: A Netflix streaming deal

Netflix is already home to popular dramas like 'Squid Game,' movies and live boxing matches. The next frontier for the streamer: live rocket launches from NASA.
The streaming giant on Monday said it is teaming up with the agency to bring space into viewers' living rooms, including with views of Earth from the International Space Station, to its vast content offering as the company treks further into the realm of live TV.
Deal terms were not disclosed.
Content from streaming service NASA+, which includes rocket launches, astronaut space walks and mission coverage, will be coming to the Los Gatos, Calif.-based streaming service this summer.
'The National Aeronautics and our Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience,' said Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+, in a statement. 'Together, we're committed to a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration — inspiring new generations — right from the comfort of their couch or in the palm of their hand from their phone.'
The content couldfit in with the streamer's other educational content, including documentaries and programs targeting families including 'Sesame Street' and Ms. Rachel. Children's programming has been a growth area for Netflix as it encroaches on the traditional broadcasters' turf.
Netflix last year said it had more than 301 million subscribers. On Monday, the streamer said its audience encompasses more than 700 million people.
NASA+ continue to be available and free on its website and on the NASA app. Space-related nonfiction programming has a long history for film and television viewers, whether through Imax museum documentaries and public broadcasting's storied NOVA franchise.

Moon phase today: What the moon will look like on June 30, 2025

It's the last moon in June, and there are plenty of geological features to see, even without a telescope, all thanks to the ever-changing lunar cycle. The lunar cycle is a series of eight unique phases of the moon's visibility. The whole cycle takes about 29.5 days, according to NASA, and these different phases happen as the Sun lights up different parts of the moon whilst it orbits Earth. See what's happening with the moon tonight, June 30. As of Monday, June 30, the moon phase is Waxing Crescent. 29% of the moon will be lit up and visible to us on Earth (according to NASA's Daily Moon Observation). This also marks the fifth day of the current lunar cycle, and there's plenty to spot on the moon's surface, with or without binoculars. Similarly to last night, there are two geological wonders you can spot with just your naked eye. These are the Mare Crisium and the Mare Fecunditatis. The Mare Crisium is also known as the "Sea of Crises and takes up around 109,000 square miles. The Mare Fecunditatis ("Sea of Fertility") is an impact basin that was the first spot where an automated sample retrieval took place in 1970. If you have binoculars or a telescope, you'll also spot the Endymion Crater. NASA tells us this crater is 78 miles in diameter and is defined by its dark, flat floor caused by cooled lava. June's full moon was on June 11. The next full moon will be on July 10. Moon phases are caused by the 29.5-day cycle of the moon's orbit, which changes the angles between the Sun, Moon, and Earth. Moon phases are how the moon looks from Earth as it goes around us. We always see the same side of the moon, but how much of it is lit up by the Sun changes depending on where it is in its orbit. This is how we get full moons, half moons, and moons that appear completely invisible. There are eight main moon phases, and they follow a repeating cycle: New Moon - The moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it's invisible to the eye). Waxing Crescent - A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere). First Quarter - Half of the moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-moon. Waxing Gibbous - More than half is lit up, but it's not quite full yet. Full Moon - The whole face of the moon is illuminated and fully visible. Waning Gibbous - The moon starts losing light on the right side. Last Quarter (or Third Quarter) - Another half-moon, but now the left side is lit. Waning Crescent - A thin sliver of light remains on the left side before going dark again.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Ends Hit Soundtrack Drought

The drought is officially over. By entering the Billboard 200 at No. 8, KPop Demon Hunters becomes the highest-charting soundtrack since Wicked ranked No. 8 on the chart dated Jan. 25, on its way down from its No. 2 peak. More from Billboard Where Are the Blockbuster Soundtracks? The Screen Has Gone Dark for Hit Movie Albums Since 'Wicked' & 'Twisters' Mariah Carey Confirms Her New Album Is Finished: 'We Got Some Mariah Ballads' Charley Crockett's Second Album of the Year Is Arriving Soon: 'I Don't Gamble. I Just Risk It All' This ends a nine-week stretch in which there wasn't a single soundtrack in the top half of Billboard's flagship albums chart. Things were particularly bleak the last two weeks, when the highest-charting soundtrack (Twisters: The Album) was way down at No. 175. That album had debuted and peaked at No. 7 in August 2024, but was leading Billboard's Top Soundtracks chart in recent weeks largely because there was no fresh competition. There is now. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack was released through Republic Records on June 20, the same day the film premiered on Netflix. The album was preceded by Twice's version of 'Takedown' as the lead single. KPop Demon Hunters is the highest-charting soundtrack from an animated film since Metro Boomin's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ranked No. 7 on the Billboard 200 dated July 1, 2023, on its way down from its No. 5 peak. Billboard's Keith Caulfield reports that it's the first soundtrack from a Netflix program to reach No. 1 on Top Soundtracks in more than two years — since Stranger Things: Soundtrack from the Netflix Series, Season 4, re-entered atop the list dated Nov. 19, 2022. And when it rains, it pours: Another hot soundtrack, F1: The Album, was released on June 27 and is expected to debut high on next week's Billboard 200. Five singles have been released from the album – Don Toliver's 'Lose My Mind' (featuring Doja Cat), Rosé's 'Messy,' Myke Towers' 'Baja California,' Tate McRae's 'Just Keep Watching' and Ed Sheeran's 'Drive.' If both KPop Demon Hunters and F1: The Album appear in the top 10 on next week's Billboard 200, it will mark the first time that two soundtracks have appeared in the top 10 simultaneously since the chart dated Jan. 8, 2022, when Encanto ranked No. 7 and the Vince Guaraldi Trio's legendary soundtrack from 1965's A Charlie Brown Christmas ranked No. 8. F1: The Movie was the weekend's top-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada, with an estimated gross of $55.6 million, according to It bumped How to Train Your Dragon, the boxoffice leader the two previous weekends, down to No. 2. Can Gaming Become the Next Revenue Pillar for Netflix Stock?

Netflix NFLX offers games to keep its audience engaged. The streaming giant serves more than 300 million paid households, offering ample engagement opportunities through its 'no-cost' gaming titles. Netflix focuses on offering immersive narrative games based on its content, with the most recent example being the launch of Squid Game: Unleashed, which came alongside the release of Squid Game Season 3. Even non-members can play the game — a strategic move to attract new users to Netflix's company is focusing on mainstream titles like Grand Theft Auto and expanding into kids' games with the launch of the Peppa Pig game. Moreover, socially engaging party games represent a category that Netflix plans to penetrate over the long plans to invest in game development, but in a measured way. For the second quarter of 2025, NFLX forecasts revenues to increase 15.4% (+17% F/X neutral) to $11.035 billion. Netflix continues to forecast 2025 revenues of $43.5-$44.5 billion, which assumes healthy member growth, higher subscription pricing and a rough doubling of ad revenues. Netflix faces stiff competition from players like Take-Two Interactive TTWO and Electronic Arts EA.
