Gandhinagar: A seminar titled 'Aatmanirbharata in the Defence Sector' was organised in Gandhinagar on Monday with the aim of enabling Gujarat-based MSMEs to access and participate in national defence procurement, innovation, and exports.
The event was jointly organised by the department of defence production, Govt of India in association with the state industries and mines department, GCCI, and Laghu Udyog Bharti.
An official statement said the seminar focused on topics such as engineering, precision fabrication and machining, defence electronics and embedded systems, UAVs, aerospace, and avionics components. The seminar was majorly focused on three key themes: vendor development programme in the defence sector, startups in defence, and the Gujarat Aerospace and Defence Policy.
It also sought to create links between local industries and key stakeholders such as defence PSUs, major private companies in the sector, the armed forces, and research and development organisations.
With its strong industrial foundation in engineering, manufacturing, advanced textiles, and speciality materials, Gujarat is well-placed to contribute to India's defence manufacturing goals, the statement said.

Davanagere villages get 24X7 drinking water supply under Jal Jeevan Mission

Davanagere: Under Jal Jeevan Mission, 51 villages in Davanagere district now have round-the-clock drinking water — the highest for any district in Karnataka. Of 75 villages statewide with 24x7 supply, Davanagere accounts for most. The World Bank , which funded the scheme, praised the achievement and invited ZP CEO Gitte Madhav Vittal Rao to present a demo. The project is set to be officially launched on Thursday. According to sources from Davanagere zilla panchayat, the project is being implemented through state and central shares of 55% and 45%, respectively. Within the district, Davanagere taluk has implemented the project in 12 villages, the highest among the taluks. Nyamati taluk has 11 villages, Channagiri and Honnali taluks have eight villages each, Jagalur taluk has successfully implemented seven villages, and Harihar taluk is last with five villages. When contacted, ZP CEO Gitte Madhav Vittal Rao stated that their district is leading the state in implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission, having successfully provided 24/7 drinking water to 51 villages. He added, "The authorities of the World Bank have appreciated this initiative and considered it as a model. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Skin Issues? The previous CEO of ZP, Suresh Itnal, did great work, and after that, I sped up the work through daily monitoring. " An IAS officer noted that households no longer need to store water in tanks as they are receiving water continuously, which will reduce unnecessary water wastage and prevent waterborne diseases. The implementation of the scheme is expected to avoid at least 25% of drinking water waste. "We have installed meters to calculate water usage and appointed members of SHG to collect water tax in the village. However, the water tax is not high; it is intended for villagers. Therefore, I appeal to everyone to use this initiative as a model and extend their cooperation to Panchayat staff and SHG members. Not only installing pipelines under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but we must also arrange water resources. Now we have sufficient water to supply 24x7, and the project will be implemented in seven more villages by next week," Rao added. V Somanagouda, a villager from Chatnalli in Nyamati taluk, expressed his satisfaction, saying, "We never expected this in a rural area. Most cities have not been getting water 24x7 but Davanagere ZP has implemented it successfully, thanks to the authorities and elected representatives." Depositors struggling amid cooperative sector frauds

Thiruvananthapuram: Financial irregularities in the district's cooperative institutions are increasingly coming to light, with the latest cases involving the Panayarakunnu Farmers Social Welfare Cooperative Society and the District Commercial Employees Welfare Cooperative Society (CEWCS). The district has nearly 2,400 financial institutions under the cooperative department, of which about 124 are reportedly facing financial issues due to serious irregularities. However, departmental inquiries are being conducted for only 25 institutions. The remaining societies obtained court stays against investigations because the cooperative department failed to file objections on time. Thousands of depositors are still struggling to recover their hard-earned money. Many of these cooperative societies or banks are linked to political parties, which makes it difficult for the affected public to obtain justice, even from the authorities. Experts point to the cooperative department's failure to conduct timely audits and take appropriate action when irregularities were identified as a major factor behind the crisis. Department officials acknowledge issues in some institutions but insist that most are functioning smoothly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Generalizing the issue will damage the entire cooperative sector, as the irregularities are confined to societies controlled by individuals. Problems include granting loans in benami names, violating norms for loan approvals, creating unnecessary expenditures by hiring excess staff, failing to conduct timely audits and ignoring cooperative rules. We have now introduced team audits and compliance registers in all societies and requested 30 additional auditors. Team audits reduce opportunities to conceal malpractices and compliance registers ensure follow-up on corrective measures," said Prabith S, joint registrar, cooperative department. Institutions where panel members are accused of irregularities include Vanchinadu Bhavana Nirmana Sahakarana Sangham, Thiruvithamcore Cooperative Society, Nemom Service Cooperative Bank, Vellanad Rajiv Gandhi Residents Cooperative Society, SMC Cooperative Housing Society, Mudavanmugal Residence Welfare Sahakarana Sangham and Kandala Service Cooperative Bank. In Nemom Cooperative Bank, an administrator has been appointed, but the inquiry report is still pending. Investigations in BSNL Society concluded months ago, but no action has been taken. Thiruvithamcore Society remains under the accused's control, and inquiries are stalled. Meanwhile, no inquiry has been initiated for Panayarakunnu Society and CEWCS, despite complaints from depositors. According to section 243(3) of cooperative rules, audits must be conducted within six months of each financial year and submitted to the department for action. Had audits been completed on time, such widespread irregularities could have been avoided, noted Sayooja A., a lawyer advocating for depositor rights. Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok picks Obama over Trump, and the 2 reasons will spark outrage

Grok picked Obama over Trump: Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has stirred controversy again, this time by naming former US president Barack Obama as a better leader than US president Donald Trump, citing two key reasons: economic leadership and foreign policy, as per a report. Grok Sparks Debate by Choosing Barack Obama Over Donald Trump The response came after a user asked the chatbot to choose in one word, which of the two presidents was superior, which led Grok to reply, "Obama," as reported by The Express. When it was further asked to explain, Grok pointed to Obama's 'more consistent economic recovery and diplomatic engagement,' as quoted in the report. The AI, created by Musk's xAI and built into his social media platform X, didn't hold back in its comparison and the internet is already reacting, according to The Express report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo ALSO READ: US drops the hammer: No more $800 tax-free eBay buys — shoppers furious Obama's Job Growth, Market Stability and Foreign Policy Win AI's Approval Grok pointed to Obama's economic strategy, saying, "Post-2008, he added 8.1 million jobs and stabilized markets with measured policies like the Affordable Care Act," as quoted in the report. Grok's final assessment, that Obama's 'steady leadership' contrasted with what it described as Trump's 'erosion of trust,' as per The Express. The AI bot explained that Trump's "misleading claims, like election fraud, eroded trust more than Obama's occasional exaggerations. Obama's steady leadership aligns better with long-term governance metrics, though Trump's disruption resonated with some," as quoted in the report.
