Dubai named autism certified destination
Dubai is officially the first autism certified destination in the eastern hemisphere, it has been revealed.
The emirate has been awarded the accessibility honour following efforts to enhance all aspects of the visitor experience from air travel and hotels to attractions, and transportation.
The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards officially awarded the Certified Autism Destination status on Monday April 28.
Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism has been working hard on initiatives to make travel more inclusive in the emirate.
Key initiatives included comprehensive staff training programmes, expanded visitor support at attractions, and the introduction of sensory guides and hidden disability lanyards to ensure a seamless and inclusive experience for all.

Earlier in April, it was confirmed that Emirates was the world's first autism certified airline while Coca-Cola Arena in City Walk was also announced as an autism certified destination.
In the past two years, more than 70,000 people have received autism and sensory awareness training, including staff at 300 city hotels.
More than 15 attractions, including Motiongate Dubai and Expo City Dubai, have earned IBCCES certifications in addition to beaches and parks.
The official certification is part of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, by championing talent development, social inclusion, and quality of life and the UAE Year of Community, which includes the goal of creating inclusive spaces that encourage collaboration, a sense of belonging, and shared experiences.
Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman and CEO, said that this is a huge step for accessible tourism.
He said: 'Dubai is raising the bar for accessible tourism, and IBCCES is honoured to support this initiative.
'This achievement represents a significant step in ensuring that all visitors, including autistic people and individuals with sensory needs, can explore and experience everything Dubai has to offer with confidence and ease.'

Airlines reduce baggage loss by using new tech, report shows
Aviation technology company Sita said 33.4 million bags were mishandled in 2024, compared with 33.8 million during the previous year. Given the 8.2% increase in passenger numbers, the rate of bags lost fell to 6.3 per 1,000 passengers, down from 6.9 in 2023. This is a 67% drop since 2007. Sita said airports and airlines are handling baggage with 'more precision' by using real-time tracking, AI-powered analytics and self-service systems. The report stated that these advancements are 'no longer experimental, they are becoming standard and they are clearly having an effect'. Sita chief executive David Lavorel said: 'We've seen a radical shift with automation and the widespread use of real-time tracking. 'Passengers now expect their baggage experience to be as easy and transparent as using a rideshare or delivery app. 'It's no longer just about moving bags, it's about delivering a smooth, connected journey. 'Airlines are ready to tap into technology that improves the passenger experience while keeping costs down and being simple to roll out. 'Together with our partners, we're reimagining baggage handling to give passengers full visibility and control from departure to arrival, giving them peace of mind and making travel simpler and better.' Despite the improvement, lost bags cost the aviation industry an estimated five billion US dollars (£4.2 billion) last year from courier returns, customer service, claims handling and lost productivity. Delays remained the most common baggage issue last year, accounting for 74% of mishandling incidents. Of the 33.4 million mishandled bags, some 66% were 'resolved' within 48 hours, the report added.
