The remaining buses will start operations in the next two days, a BMTC official told The Hindu.
All buses are supplied by Tata Motors Ltd. (TML) Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., who will operate the buses under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. The BMTC has struck a contract with the TML for 12 years at a rate of ₹41.01 a km for a bus, including electricity charges.
'The BMTC will provide conductors for the buses, and all other maintenance work will be taken up by the contracted company,' the BMTC official said, adding that all the buses are inducted at Jayanagar (depot 4).

With this, the total fleet of e-buses will go up to 1,584. Before the new additions, the BMTC operated 1,436 electric buses, of which 1,311 were non-AC buses. Of these, 1,221 are 12-meter e-buses and 90 are nine-meter e-buses. All AC e-buses plying in Bengaluru are 12-meter buses.

Talent pool drives eBay to set up Global Capability Centre in Bengaluru
The quality and diversity of talent in Bengaluru prompted the American e-commerce company eBay to choose the city over Hyderabad to set up its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, said Mazen Rawashdeh, SVP & Chief Technology Officer, eBay. He was speaking to The Hindu ahead of the unveiling of the GCC. 'The talent in India, in general, is amazing. We were debating between Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and we decided on Bengaluru as the quality and diversity of the talent is really attractive want to open and expand our presence with the dev centre and attract top talent. It's a world-class tier-1 tech dev centre for us,' he said. eBay's approximately 65,000-square-foot new office will host a variety of functions, including technology and engineering, AI/ML, applied research, product development, product management, data analytics and more. According to Rawashdeh, the centre, which is expected to see upwards of 300 engineers, would play a strategic role for the company and would serve as a technology innovation hub similar to those in the U.S. and China. 'Us coming to India at this point is not a business strategy. It's not to expand eBay's business in India,' said Mr. Rawashdeh, calling it a '180-degree shift' from the company's previous stint in the country. 'We never exited India. We stayed here, but shrunk the footprint, and looked at supporting and augmenting the functions outside of India. This time the strategy is completely different,' he said. Clarifying that the centre would not simply serve as a supporting role, but would build, incubate and architect services and functions, including engineering, design and product development, he said that it will have a semi-autonomous team. Mr. Rawashdeh added that the company is already in talks with the government and universities, similar to how it is done in the U.S. 'We intend to build those relationships, especially with the universities from a research and development angle. That would be a great pipeline to not only bring talent to the organization, but also leverage the tremendous experience and knowledge with the PhD students and do joint research with them,' he said.

Madras HC refuses to quash GCC's decision to privatize garbage disposal
Chennai: In a setback to the sanitary workers of Zones 5 and 6 of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), the Madras high court on Wednesday refused to quash the resolution passed by Greater Chennai Corporation to privatise garbage disposal. "Since the service of the workers is not terminated, the question of retrenchment does not arise," Justice K Surender said while disposing of the plea moved by the sanitary workers. On Aug 13, when the court reserved its order on the plea, the workers submitted that they were willing to call off their agitation and resume work immediately provided the GCC agreed to abide by the decision of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal in the case concerning the outsourcing of garbage disposal. Even for Zones 5 and 6, tenders were floated, and contracts were awarded. Only two more zones remain to be outsourced. The GCC added that the agitating workers were not its staff. They were engaged from self-help groups (SHGs) on contract. All the workers would be absorbed with a higher pay scale and would receive other benefits too, said the firm that got the contract for garbage disposal, Delhi MSW Solutions Limited (earlier Ramky). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The contractor has now agreed to extend the cutoff date for the workers to join until Aug0 31, its counsel said. To this, the workers contended that the pay offered by the contractor would not be higher than what they were getting now and would be less than the minimum wage applicable in the state. They would be drawing a daily wage of 196, less than what they were getting now, they added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
