On today's Days of Our Lives recap:
Kiriakis Mansion – Holly's Room: Holly looks at Doug in her contacts and shoots him a text to check on him. After a while, she gives him a call and leaves a voicemail message.
Brady Pub: Outside, young Douglas gets Holly's text and ignores it. Inside, Roman hands Doug an application for the pub. He gets stuck on the address part as he doesn't exactly have one as he is staying at the homeless shelter. Roman says the pub isn't just advertising for a server but also a room.
Young Douglas says he can barely afford a side of fries much less a room. Roman tells the story of Frankie and Max and how they showed up one day. After a while, his parents adopted them. Doug continues his sad sack story as he is certain Roman wouldn't want him around as he is more trouble than he is worth. Doug tries to leave and Roman tells him to sit back down. He can tell Doug needs guidance, as well as a job. Roman says the job and room are his if he wants it and will loan him first and last months rent. Doug is grateful and accepts the job.
Salem PD – Lobby: Shawn Douglas arrives to help Jada continue the investigation into EJ's shooting. He shows her a list of suspects with Ava at the top of the list but notes there are many others in Salem to investigate. They talk a bit about Gabi and Rafe and Jada wonders if her thinks her name should be on the list of suspects. Shawn D admits he was worried when he found her at Small Bar without her gun. However, his heart tells him she couldn't have committed such an act. Jada corrects him and says she was very capable of killing EJ after the ways he destroyed her life. That being said, she knows she locked her weapon in her desk that night before she got sauced at Small Bar.
Hernandez House: Leo walks into the kitchen to find Rafe looking at his list of suspects in EJ's shooting. Leo says he is writing a story, but Rafe understands exactly what he is doing. Leo says he's doing his job, and Rafe calls him a home-wrecking grifter. Leo says he is none of those things and is a respectable investigative reporter looking into the shooting of Elvis Aron DiMera. Rafe warns him to stay away from Gabi as she has been to prison twice for crimes she didn't commit. If he finds out Leo has been rifling through Gabi's thing ever again, he will be looking for a place to live.
DiMera Enterprises – Gabi Chic: Javi arrives, and she shows him the Q3 numbers for Gabi Chic. She notes all the errors in the document. He apologizes as he thought he fixed it. Gabi rails at him about his careless mistakes and tells him to get it done now. He apologizes again and wonders the true source of her ire.
Gabi apologizes for yelling at him and explains she has a lot on her mind. Javi understands and she says she's worried about the company but also her freedom as both their boyfriends are trying to tie her to EJ's shooting. With that, she goes off on Javi for defending Leo rifling through her purse. Javi admits his boyfriend is a bit extra, which further annoys his cousin. Javi says no one truly believes she shot EJ. Gabi calms and tells him to get back to work while she grabs lunch. After she leaves, Leo arrives with lunch for his beloved.
Javi freaks out and tells Leo he shouldn't be there. Just then, Gabi returns and throws him out. Javi asks everyone to chill out. Gabi grabs her purse and says she doesn't want Leo there when she comes back. Javi says working for his cousin has become a nightmare but can't leave his cousin. Leo notes continuing to work with Gabi could ruin their relationship forever.
Choi Digs – Sophia's Room: Tate arrives to find Sophia curled up on her bed. She is devastated because she thinks her life is over. Sophia is so frustrated they were so close to the adoption. Not only did that fall through, but now the remainder of her senior year is wrecked. Tate notes she will soon turn eighteen and will be legally able to make her own decisions. When she's a legal adult, her mother can't stop her from doing anything, including putting the baby up for adoption.
Sophia can't seem to comprehend the possibility of her going against her mother's wishes. She says she has never defied her mother for anything that really mattered. That being said, Sophia knows she and Tate have their whole lives ahead and is determined to stand up to her mother.
Tate has a moment alone and decides it's a good idea to call Holly from Sophia's room. He wants to know if he can stop by as he has some good news. They agree to meet up at the pub in a little while. As he hangs up, Sophia returns and she confirms she is still on board with moving forward with the adoption. Tate goes to leave and Sophia correctly guesses he wants to tell Holly the good news. They enjoy a bit more small talk and he exits, leaving Sophia to rub her pregnant belly.
Hernandez House: Rafe cracks open a beer when he gets a call from Shawn Douglas asking when he planned on turning in his service weapon. Rafe grouses about Arnold Finegar and then says he will get it back as soon as he can. He has been a bit busy being processed back in at the FBI. With that, they hang up.
Gabi returns home as Rafe guzzles his beer. She goes in about the demands of work and her run-in with Leo. Rafe asks if Gabi borrowed his gun to shoot EJ. Gabi can't believe yet another person is accusing her of attempted murder. Rafe stops her saying he knows she took his service weapon the night of the shooting. He also saw there were no bullets missing. Rafe urges his sister to be honest with him.
Salem PD – Lobby: Jada thanks Shawn Douglas for making the call to Rafe as she had no desire to do so. Just then, Leo arrives on the scene. He wants a comment about EJ's shooting. The way he figure it the suspect list has been whittled down to Gabi, Rafe and Jada. She is taken aback but Leo doubles down. Shawn Douglas interrupts but Jada tells him to stand down. Jada looks up, says the Salem PD has no comment and tells Leo to exit.
Brady Pub: Holly arrives to meet Tate and he gives her the update about his conversation with Sophia. He switches topics and asks if maybe there is a chance for them to get back together. Just then, Roman walks up and asks to borrow Tate for a job in the back. After he exits, young Douglas walks up which puts a huge smile on Holly's face.

Endings
Leo returns with more food for Javi and urges his boyfriend to quit his job. Javi is more than considering it and Leo asks what he is passionate about. Javi agrees to tell him more after they chow down. He clears off Gabi's desk and says he wants dessert first.
Gabi admits she took his gun to confront EJ the night of the shooting. When she approached the doors, she overheard him arguing with someone. She couldn't see the person but knows EJ was arguing with a man. Gabi decided to exit before she was found out. Rafe asks again and Gabi says she didn't shoot EJ. Rafe hesitates before saying he believes her. Gabi says when she was leaving the property she saw Ava who heard something, got in her car and sped away.
Jada is annoyed they have to deal with Leo. Shawn Douglas wants to chat with Chad but Jada tells him to stand down as they are supposed to be transparent with the press. Shawn D apologizes for ever doubting her involvement in the shooting.
Holly is thrilled to find out young Douglas not only has a job but also a room. Doug thinks Roman is the nicest man in the world. They embrace just as Tate returns. Holly tries to explain but Tate can't help but be a douche canoe. Holly follows him out but doesn't catch him. Doug joins her and Holly congratulates him again as things are looking up. As they chat, a shadowy figure looms in the background.

"Piracy Is Piracy": Disney Sues Midjourney for Massive Copyright Violation

Disney and NBCUniversal — a pair of media behemoths behind franchises ranging from "Star Wars" and "Toy Story" to "Minions" and "Shrek" — are suing AI company Midjourney, accusing it of enabling copyright infringement on a massive scale through its AI image generator tech. In the lawsuit, which was filed in a California district court today, the two Hollywood juggernauts accused the firm of ignoring its previous requests to stop violating their intellectual property rights. "Midjourney is the quintessential copyright free-rider and a bottomless pit of plagiarism," the scathing complaint reads, as quoted by the Wall Street Journal. It's a major escalation in the fight between copyright holders and AI firms, a battle that has been brewing for years. Per Axios, it's the "first legal action that major Hollywood studios have taken against a generative AI company." And it's not just the use of image generators; generative AI writ large has triggered a barrage of lawsuits, with media companies accusing the likes of OpenAI and Google of training their large language models on their materials without fair compensation. Those disputes have turned into a major pain point for the AI industry, despite surging enthusiasm for the tech. Considering the sheer size of both Disney and Universal — Disney is the third largest media company by market cap in the world — Midjourney could soon be in a world of hurt. Disney, in particular, has a long track record of closely guarding its enormous cache of intellectual property. "Our world-class IP is built on decades of financial investment, creativity and innovation—investments only made possible by the incentives embodied in copyright law that give creators the exclusive right to profit from their works," said Disney's chief legal compliance officer, Horacio Gutierrez, in a statement. "We are bullish on the promise of AI technology and optimistic about how it can be used responsibly as a tool to further human creativity," he added. "But piracy is piracy, and the fact that it's done by an AI company does not make it any less infringing." The lawsuit explained in an example how Midjourney users could easily request a picture of the Disney-owned "Star Wars" character Darth Vader in a "particular setting or doing a particular action," and the AI "obliges by generating and displaying a high-quality, downloadable image." That kind of loose approach to copyright has been an open secret for quite some time. In January 2024, noted AI critic Gary Marcus and film industry concept artist Reid Southen warned in a piece for IEEE Spectrum that tools like Midjourney and OpenAI's DALL-E3 could land them in a "copyright minefield." The pair found that it was "easy to generate many plagiaristic outputs, with brief prompts related to commercial films," including well-known Marvel superheroes, Nintendo's Super Mario, and Disney's Darth Vader. Disney and Universal are framing their legal action as a way to "protect the hard work of all the artists whose work entertains and inspires us," said NBCU executive VP and general of counsel Kim Harris in the statement. Given the lack of a clear legal precedent, it'll be fascinating to watch the lawsuit unfold over what's likely to turn into a years-long courtroom battle. Thin-Skinned Trump Snaps Over Kennedy Center Snub

Donald Trump snapped at a reporter who tried to ask about Kennedy Center actors who were planning to walk out rather than perform for him Wednesday night. He cut off the question, insisting, 'I couldn't care less!' 'Honestly, I couldn't,' Trump continued on the red carpet. 'All I do is run the country well,' he said, before launching into a lengthy list of his self-proclaimed achievements. Les Misérables cast members were offered the option to sit out the show on the night of Trump's attendance, and about a dozen performers were planning to do so, CNN reported last month. It underscores the ongoing conflict between Trump and members of the performing arts center, which he effectively seized control of in February. The president ousted much of the board, replaced them with loyalists, and appointed himself chairman, vowing to eliminate programming he deemed too 'woke,' such as events featuring drag performers. 'There's no inflation. People are happy. People are wealthy. The country is getting back to strength again,' said Trump, who was accompanied on the red carpet by Melania. 'That's what I care about.' In fact, inflation held largely steady in May at 2.4 percent. There are protests across the country as anger over Trump's immigration crackdown grows, especially in Los Angeles, which is contending with a militarized response from the Trump administration that local officials say they did not want or need. The Kennedy Center, meanwhile, has seen subscription sales plummet by more than a third year-on-year in the wake of Trump's takeover. But Trump has insisted his leadership will make the center 'great again.' Richard Grenell, the Trump-appointed president of the Kennedy Center, slammed the potential boycott last month and suggested actors who participated should be publicly identified, telling The New York Times, 'Any performer who isn't professional enough to perform for patrons of all backgrounds, regardless of political affiliation, won't be welcomed.' 'In fact, we think it would be important to out those vapid and intolerant artists to ensure producers know who they shouldn't hire—and that the public knows which shows have political litmus tests to sit in the audience,' he added. Loud boos could be heard from the audience as Trump waved from the presidential box, there were also cheers and a chant of 'USA! USA!' There was applause earlier for several drag queens as they arrived at the event. A group of drag performers had been expected to attend in protest after some attendees gave up their tickets following Trump's shakeup. Vice President JD Vance also attended the event with his wife, Usha Vance, and joked on X that he had no idea what the iconic musical was about. Trump, too, appeared to lack knowledge of the plot when he couldn't say whether he identified more with the protagonist or antagonist.

Waco survivor David Thibodeau on Justin Bieber cult rumors

(NewsNation) — David Thibodeau, one of the nine surviving members of the 1993 Branch Davidian siege in Waco, Texas, is offering insight regarding Justin Bieber's membership in a chuch some consider controversial. Churchome is a Beverly Hills-based church that also has a congregation in Washington State and attracts thousands of people online and in person. Bieber reportedly partakes in its services at home via Zoom. According to TMZ, Ryan Good, a former friend of Bieber's and co-founder of his clothing line Drew House, was also a part of Churchome but left the church and had a falling out with Bieber over it because he said it started to feel like a cult. Bieber has also shared a series of posts on social media detailing his struggles in life and religion. Unexplained deaths in New England creating fears of serial killer Judah Smith, the pastor at Churchome, responded to allegations of the church being a cult, saying, 'We would be the worst cult in the history of all cults' because the church only meets once a month. Thibodeau said Bieber should go with his gut feeling regarding warning signs of whether or not Churchome is a cult. 'There's all kinds of times you feel that you're doing something wrong, but everyone around you is telling you it's right,' Thibodeau said. 'Even though you have that feeling and so many people influencing it, it can overcome your own feeling of what's right and wrong.' Thibodeau added Bieber should take opposing viewpoints into consideration and read things other than the Bible. He said the fact that the church only meets once a month could be a good thing because it gives Bieber time to develop his own thoughts. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
