NCB nabs 2 with cocaine from Kenya
drug trafficking
operation, seizing cocaine worth Rs 2 crore and arresting two individuals in Kolkata, officials announced on Wednesday.
The suspects,Anirban Mallik and Jayita Saha, were apprehended following an investigation into suspicious parcels received at the Foreign Post Office in central Kolkata. The packages, originating from Kenya, contained approximately 2.2 kg of cocaine.
NCB officials said the operation began when postal workers flagged four suspicious parcels arriving from Kenya. Each parcel was addressed to different recipients within Kolkata.
Upon examination, investigators discovered the cocaine concealed within the packages.

"This is a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking," said a senior NCB official, adding that orders were likely placed through the dark web. "The sophistication of the smuggling operation suggests the involvement of an organised international criminal network, especially since the two other main suspects managed to escape despite our coordinated crackdown.
The suspects were using multiple delivery addresses to evade detection," said one investigator.
The investigation revealed a technique in use for some time now where traffickers used the international postal system to transport drugs from Kenya to India. The seized cocaine, reportedly of high purity, was to be used for high-end customers, suspect investigators.
Law enforcement officials are currently pursuing two additional suspects linked to the remaining parcels.
The NCB has intensified surveillance at postal facilities and is working with international agencies, including Interpol, to trace the source of the drugs in Kenya.
If convicted, the suspects face severe penalties under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and can be lodged in jail for years.
The NCB has urged the public to report any suspicious postal deliveries and emphasised their commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks operating through international mail channels.

Police Case Filed Against BJP MP, 2 Others After Driver Dies By Suicide In Karnataka
Bengaluru: A police case has been filed against BJP MP K Sudhakar and two others after a 30-year-old man, who worked as a driver, named them in a note before he died by suicide in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur. The driver, M Babu, died by suicide on Thursday morning, following which his wife, Shilpa, filed a police complaint based on the note he left behind. The first information report (FIR) charged Mr Sudhakar and two others, Nagesh and Manjunath, with financial fraud, abetment to suicide and atrocity under the BNS and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. In the note, Babu alleged Mr Sudhakar and Nagesh cheated him of Rs 25 lakh by promising him a job. He also accused a zilla parisha accounts assistant of pushing him to die by suicide. The police said Babu had been working as a contract driver for the chief accounts officer in the zilla panchayat for over six years. "A suicide was reported at Chikkaballapura DC office premises. We received information at around 8.30 am that someone had died by hanging from a tree," Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey told news agency PTI. Babu alleged Nagesh and the accounts assistant "cheated him of several lakhs of rupees", claiming they could help him secure a government job "using the MP's influence". "These are serious allegations. A thorough investigation will determine whether the MP was directly involved or if his name was misused. We are examining all angles," the officer said. In the FIR, Mr Sudhakar has been named as accused 1, Nagesh as accused 2 and Manjunatha as accused 3. Earlier in the day, Mr Sudhakar told reporters in Delhi that he was "deeply pained" by the death but denied any connection to the tragedy. "I heard about the suicide at the DC office in Chikkaballapura. It has deeply saddened me. I offer my condolences to the family. I have never seen or met this person, Babu, in my public life," Mr Sudhakar said. The MP, a former minister and three-time MLA, said he helped many young people secure employment and did not understand why his name was mentioned in the note. "I have no information about the other two individuals named in the note. I've heard that Nagesh and Manjunath allegedly promised Babu a job and took Rs 10-15 lakh from him. I don't know them personally," the BJP MP said.

NCB arrests PO evading arrest since 2016 in a narcotics case
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chandigarh Zonal Unit, has arrested Jagsir Singh, alias Kala, alias Baaz Sran, a proclaimed offender who had been evading arrest since 2016 in a narcotics case. Singh, a resident of Sirsa, Haryana, was wanted in NCB Chandigarh Zonal FIR of 2015, which involved the seizure of 36.15 kg opium. An official of NCB, Chandigarh, said that he was declared a proclaimed offender nearly a decade ago, but he managed to stay away from the radar by repeatedly changing his identity and location. As per sources, he reinvented himself as a Punjabi singer, gaining wide popularity on social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram under the stage name Baaz Sran. His music career flourished, with several videos amassing millions of views, even as he remained on the NCB's wanted list. The official said that in May 2025, the NCB launched a renewed manhunt, publishing Singh's details in newspapers and offering a Rs 50,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest. Sources said that a person from Haryana identified Singh, following the advertisement against him in the newspaper, and informed the NCB. Acting on specific intelligence inputs received afterward, the NCB apprehended him on August 6, 2025. According to officials, Singh's arrest is being seen as a significant milestone in the agency's campaign against long-standing narcotic networks. His public life as a social media celebrity is now under scrutiny to determine whether it served as a front for drug-related activities or money laundering. NCB officials are also investigating how Singh managed to bypass digital verification systems to build a public persona while being on the run.

Human rights panel takes suo motu cognisance of Mohali factory blast
The Punjab State and Chandigarh Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the recent industrial accident at Hi-Tech Industries Ltd in Industrial Area Phase 9, Mohali, where two workers lost their lives and four others suffered injuries in an oxygen cylinder explosion. In a notice issued on Thursday, Commission chairperson Justice Sant Prakash and member Justice Gurbir Singh have directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC), SSP Mohali, and the District Food and Supply Officer to submit a detailed investigation report by November 13, 2025. Separately, Mohali DC Komal Mittal has assigned the probe to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Mohali, instructing them to submit findings within two weeks. The bodies of the deceased workers, Devinder and Asif, were handed over to their families after autopsy on Thursday. While Devinder's body was taken to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, for last rites, Asif's funeral was conducted in Chandigarh. 'Asif had been living with us since childhood. We raised him like our own son,' said Akbar, Asif's maternal uncle. Tensions flared outside the factory as family members of the deceased protested over alleged discrepancies in compensation. They initially refused to allow hospital authorities to move the bodies, demanding equal treatment. According to sources after prolonged negotiations, Devinder's family agreed to Rs 10 lakh in compensation, which was paid in full. However, Asif's relatives claimed they were being offered only Rs 5 lakh, arguing, 'We deserve the same compensation as Devinder's family.' Four other workers — Sachin, Ashok, Parvez, and Akbar — were treated for minor injuries at the Mohali Civil Hospital and discharged on Thursday. Doctors confirmed the victims were in shock but had no life-threatening injuries. The Human Rights Commission's intervention and the administrative inquiry have brought the factory's compliance with safety norms under scrutiny. Officials confirmed that violations, if found, would be acted upon strictly, and promised timely justice and compensation for the affected families.
